Pavinse was born into a rich merchant family based out of Saens, and despite his father's wishes him learning the family business he always had dreams of becoming a great adventurer like those of legend, in particular he was taken with a particular story bards told about the famous Crimson Highwayman Ludok, who would perform daring raids on corrupt merchant and noble caravans. He would rob from the rich, and give some of it to the poor, and not only that but he would do so with style and panache. That was what Pavinse aspired to, however, his father constantly reigned him in and brought him back to reality.
Well, he reigned him in until his death. Lord Orbius Vahlentru, the true overlord of Saens, had begun demanding tribute from all merchants in the general area of Saens, claiming that they only were able to operate here if he willed it. Many merchants were resistant to this, naturally, so Vahlentru made examples of many, slaughtering many of the wealthy merchants, having his mercenaries burn their businesses and cut them down in cold blood in front of their very families. Pavinses's father was killed in front of him, and when he ran to his aid he was knocked unconscious for his trouble by one of the mercenaries smacking him on the head with the hilt of their blade. It was this that drove Pavinse to learn the art of combat, so he may one day bring justice to Vahlentru and all those like him.
While practicing his swordsmanship outside of town, in the surrounding mountains, he was unaware of it, but he was being watched. As he trained in blade and horsemanship he was beginning to impress the one that he so long ago wished to be, the Crimson Highwayman himself, Ludok. After many months of honing his skill he was eventually approached by Ludok, in disguise, he challenged him to a duel. The two fought for a good ten minutes, Ludok obviously getting the better of the still young and inexperienced Pavinse, but Fahnebahl held his own for the most part, and so Ludok revealed his true self and offered Pavinse the opportunity to join him. He has been Ludok's right hand man ever since.
Most recently they traveled to Caeter, a port town in the Theocracy of the Pale, with some Striders of Fharlanghn. Their hopes were to make their way from there to Zan Thulte, however, a small problem arose and they were split up, the Striders disappearing somewhere and the Highwaymen being forced to fend for themselves. They had done a good job, but unfortunately in their honorable nature they had left themselves open to an attack by the Night Knives, and in this momentary lapse of defense Fahnebahl fell to the blade of Glim Waywhocket and Ludok was badly injured by Glim's companion, Meanie. Soon after, however, he was resurrected at the behest of the Striders of Fharlanghan by Malleus Verrull and was involved in the raid on the Light of Pelor's vault.
