"If there is no struggle, there is no progress. Those who profess
to favour freedom and yet deprecate agitation, are men who want crops
without ploughing up the ground; they want rain without thunder and
lightning; they want the ocean without the awful roar of its mighty
waters." - Frederick Douglass
The Riverside
Community Council is an organization dedicated to serving our
community. Founded in 1968 the Council has been an active participant
in the City/Neighborhood decision-making process and has been an active
proponent for our community. Membership is open to all residents,
businesses and property owners of Capitol Hill. The Capitol Hill
Community Council website includes a community listing of some of the
many organizations active in our neighborhood.
Peace Between People is the
local "Alternatives to Violence Project" (AVP) organization,
part of an international network offering experiential workshops in
creative conflict resolution and personal growth. AVP's transformative
workshops emphasize community building, communication skills, problem
solving, affirmation of self and others, and cooperation. Peace Between
People conducts workshops in the Washington State Prison system and for
organizations, churches, and other community groups. Peace Between
People is a 501(c) 3 not-for-profit organization run entirely by
