This band CARMEN were an L.a. based Flamenco rock band whose 1st lp 'FANDANGOES IN SPACE' is said to be a mix of prog, and glam, it was produced by TONY VISCONTI, not sure if it was recorded in the u.s. or the u.k. though, whatever the case the single 'FLAMENCO FEVER' is a GREAT one !! ........below is a review of it, also reviews of 2 more songs from their 1st lp,...

this is a BOWIE derived somewhat sci fi approach to glam with really GREAT results.......campy background singers add atmosphere, an xylophone begins the number along with....castenats used by Flamenco musicians to give percussive effect.........GREAT synth work here from Angela also....her brother David sings.......' ON A TILED COVERED BALCONY, I STEP UP TO SEE U BENEATH ME, YOUR NO LONGER MY TOY, FOR THIS MAN IS NO BOY ANSWER ME...............LOOK WHAT U LEAVE BEHIND A MAN WHOSE LOST HIS MIND'...........

elec guitar/ synth rock.......GREAT synth work by Angela, she really has a hold on their Sci - fi angle......lyrics are in engles/espanol.......'SILVER HEELS, LIGHTNING THUNDER SHAKE THE GROUND,.......EYES THEY SPARKLE LIKE DIAMONDS, .....GET RIGHT DOWN' !..........later the band plays an extended jam complete with handclaps, then it slows and spanish guitar playing comes forth.........'ESTU MARIA'.....

this one is flamenco prog rock with glam overtones, actually similiar to the surreal sound of the SEVENTH WAVE ( see page 5 )......rock guitar here with synth, castanets,.........'BLOOD ALL AROUND, AAHHHH, SHOUT OF OLAY, BA,BA,BA,BA, BLOOD ON THE GROUND, BA,BA,BA,BA, TO THE SHOUTS OF OLAY' !

Angella Allen, David Allen and Roberto Amaral originally came from Los Angeles, California, and Carmen, and they were regarded really as the 1st 'Flamenco rock band of the west coast'......

Angela later played on Jethro Tull's 'Too Old To Rock 'n' Roll, Too Young To Die' album. John Glasock, who also played bass with Carmen had previously been with Chicken Shack on Imagination Lady, Ken Hensley's Gods and Toe Fat (on Toe Fat Two) and later, from 1976 - 79, with Jethro Tull. Glasock died after heart surgery in 1979.

"Sriman George Harrison has certainly done an unique service by contributing $19,000 for publishing my Krsna book. Srimad-Bhagavatam recommends that we shall employ our life, money, intelligence, and words for the service of the Lord. So Syamasundara, employed his intelligence to bring George Harrison into the service of Krishna Consciousness and thus George's money has been employed in Krishna's service. This is the whole process of Krishna Consciousness--First of all one should dedicate his life for Krishna's service; that is very nice. If he cannot dedicate his whole life, then let him devote his money; if he cannot devote his money, then let him devote his intelligence; and if he cannot devote his intelligence also, then let him devote his voice in Krishna Consciousness by uttering Hare Krishna Mantra. Therefore Hare Krishna Mantra is the greatest common factor for self-realization. Please preach this philosophy whole-heartedly and Krishna will be very much pleased upon you." ~ S.P.
