Twenty-First Century

The world as we know it changes everyday. One might ask the question, "Do we really know it, then?" Much has happened in the past three years. There have been world crisis events and there have been some minor things that not everyone knows about. These minor events are very shocking to some and unimportant to others. It may not seem like a long time, but an entire world will never be the same....

The beloved Mr. Rogers dies on Feb. 27, 2003 at the age of 74.

Fred Rogers died at hid home after a battle with stomach cancer. Rogers is best known for his children's program "Mr. Rogers' Neighborhood." It appeared on the Canadian Broadcasting Corp. in 1963 and was picked up by PBS in America in 1968. The final episode was in 2001.

Rogers was born in Latrobe, Penn. and he died at his home in Pittsburgh, Penn. He will be forever loved and forever missed by millions around the world.

Bush v. Gore;Republicans take control of both Executive and Legislative branches

Albert Gore was a sore loser and the Supreme Court ended up with another case to resolve. The petition presented: whether the Florida Supreme Court established new standards for resolving Presidential action contests (thus violating Article II of the U.S. Constitution) and whether the use of standards manuel records violates the Equal Protection and Due Process clauses. The United States Supreme Court finds a violation of the Equal Protection clause. Also stated in the per curiam (Dec. 12, 2000) is a promise of the court to examine ways to improve the voting machine. The Supreme Court also reversed the Florida Supreme Court's ruling and ordered to cease recount on Dec. 12, 2000. George W. Bush wins Election 2000.

Her Majesty the Queen's Golden Jubilee

2002 marks the 50th anniversary of the Queen's Accession to the Throne. She took the Throne on Feb. 6, 1952, which also marks the date of her father's death. Thus the reason for celebrating on the Accession date. The Golden Jubilee is a time to look back and the Queen wants to thank everyone for the support they have given during her reign. The celebrations involved everyone of all ages, ethnicity, and station.

Elizabeth Alexandra Mary was born in London on April 21, 1926. She remains very active in gov't and military. Lt. Philip Mountbatten and Elizabeth were married Nov. 20, 1947. The Queen will continue to strive to make England even greater then it is.

The Strokes Are Here!!

One of the greatest underground bands, The Strokes, enter the scene. All five members hail from New York. Three of them met in bording school in Switzerland. There's Julian on vocals, Nikolai on bass, Nick and Albert on guitar, and Fab on drums.

Sept. 2001 saw the release of their first album Is This It? featuring Last Night and Sometimes. It is said that in Fall of 2003, their long awaited follow-up album will be released with Ze Newie and Meet Me In the Bathroom. The Strokes are pretty big in England, but have yet to become "the thing" in America. Remaining in the Underground would be the best, because that way, ticket prices won't go up!

America Attacked; Cocked and Loaded?

Can you remeber where you were when America was attacked September 11, 2001? Maybe not, because most Americans have lost interest in the whole ordeal. Many cannot even remember why it happened. The Middle East hates the United States. Why? Jealousy? Greed? The need for world domination? Well, we might never know. The attack was believed to have been planned by the infamous Osama Bin Laden. The plan was complete genious. Two American jet liners were flown into the World Trade Center buildings by terrorists. The planes hit high enough so nobody could help and low enough to cause an entire building collapse. Another plane was most likely headed for the White House, but the terrorists were overtaken by the passengers of the plane. All on board died. There was a fourth plane that landed in the Pentagon, but fortunately it wasn't as bad as it could have been.

President Bush expressed his calm anger and helped the U.S. stay calm. Eventually, the memory faded as America entered into war with Saddam Hussein. Sept. 11, 2001 may go into the history books, but how many will really remember?

Columbia Go Boom; All Seven Dead

The space shuttle Columbia broke apart over Texas in March of 2003. They were sixteen minutes from landing at Kennedy Space Center, returning from a four month mission. There were six American astronauts and the first Israeli in space; all seven are dead. They were traveling at 12,500 mph. Communication was lost 203,000 ft. above the Earth at 9 am EST. Investigations show that nothing could have saved the crew. It's believed that damaged tiles and a slit in the left wing let enormous amounts of heat into the shuttle and caused it to explode. Pieces are still being found all over the Mid-West.

Foot and Mouth Outbreak

Foot and Mouth Disease mysteriously appeared in 2001 and infected most to all of Europe's livestock. FMD is an acute infectious viral disease causing fever and blisters in the mouth and on the feet. It's one of the most infectious diseases known to man. If not controlled, it spreads rapidly infecting cattle, sheep, pigs, and goats. Hooved animals, elephants, hedgehogs, and rats are also believed to carry the disease.

In efforts to control FMD, England, along with others, have ordered the destruction of all livestock to prevent any further spread. Anyone traveling to or from those affected countries must wash their feet in a special solution before touching American soil. Today, FMD seems to be under control.

Michael Jordan Retires...Again

Micael Jordan says good-bye in 2003 for the third time. He left the Bulls to join the MLB and angering several loyal fans. He discovered that baseball ain't his game and he left the professional sports world forever. Then, forever ended and he came back to the NBA to play for the Wizards. He's realized that he is too old to continue on. His physical ability is failing him. This 6'7" man is (once again) retiring.

His entire (basketball) career consists of: 1072 games, 41,011 min, 32,292 pts, 5633 assists, and 6672 rebounds. He ranks third in league history behind Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Karl Malone. Maybe this time, he'll really stay home.

Angels Win 2002 World Series

The Anaheim Angels began the 2002 season with the worst record in team history. They came back and proved that they're not the worst. The World Series hosted the Anaheim Angels and the San Francisco Giants. There was amazing rivalry between Northern and Southern California. However, the Angels pulled through and won their first championship. The owner expressed her husband's wish to see his team win one World Series, but he sadly passed away several years ago.

GO ANGELS!!!!

Michael Jackson is Black?!?!?!?

Today's generation may not know that once upon a time, the King of Pop was black. He claims it's a skin disease, but many still claim he bathes in bleach. Perhaps we'll never know. Jackson will take many, many secrets to the grave. There has been great recent controversy over Jackson hanging a new born baby over a high balcony while in Germany. Those charges have been dropped. His publisher has taken him to court in 2003 for Jackson's absence during two New Year's Eve concerts in 2000. The biggest attraction for Jackson has been his chaging styles over the years. It has been revealed recently that after several nose jobs, his putty nose is beginning to rot away. He looks worse and worse every year as if he has already begun to decompose. Let him be and for God's sake, let what he does in "Neverland" stay in "Neverland."
