| Orbital Defense Platforms have
been a significant factor in protecting resources for as long as
mankind has been in space. Some areas of the Imperium referred to them as Monitors but expansionist tendencies caused too many monitors to have their weapons arrays pointed at the planets. DPs became the polically correct alternative. The mobile Hercules class was developed at the end of the Imperium to protect high tech worlds and strategic assets, like Depot systems. The implementation of 30 platforms at Corridor's Depot Prime was the first instance of use of this defense systems. The crews onboard a DP have generally lead a quite existance until the Rebellion. Two 20-ton lifeboats are included should the stations become un-inhabitable. PAWs are preferred by populated worlds, since, their function is limited to defenses. Is even common to not include missiles on these platforms to improve public approval. |
