(675) DM: OOC: Okay
(675) DM: you are standing some 200 yards from what might be the start of town. WHAT do you do?
** (678) Taura looks for signs of life **
(675) DM: There are people everywhere, going, coming, moving around
** (677) Ango calls out a hail **
(675) DM: herding, farming
(675) DM: drinking, eating
(677) Ango: which way to an inn?
(675) DM: yelling "buy this"
(675) DM: forward, you'd guess
** (679) Kerrick shrugs and moves towrds town some more **
(675) DM: standing like idiots, a boy starts running towards you
(675) DM: he's waving and hailing you
(678) Taura: Aaye
** (679) Kerrick contemplates tripping the boy **
(675) GORIN: Hey folks, new to the Three Kings? I'm Gorin
(678) Taura: I'm Taura
(679) Kerrick: Hello, Gorin
(677) Ango: We need an inn boy. Be quick about it and you'll earn a silver.
(675) GORIN: I could show you around, if you'd like
(677) Ango: We want cheap, and good food.
** (675) GORIN holds out his hand for coin **
(677) Ango: not so fast lad
(684) Matthias: : Looks around to take in the sights
(677) Ango: the inn first
(675) GORIN: I can show you three, if you like
(677) Ango: a very cheap inn, and a place for good ale.
(675) GORIN: The mermaid is a good one. Nice bread there, and Amanda the owner is friendly after a few drinks
(677) Ango: that'll do lad
(675) GORIN: Or perhaps THe Brothel? It's just called that, but they also serve food. They sometimes have a chicken stew that's not too bad
(675) GORIN: or maybe....
(675) GORIN: what about...
(678) Taura: The Inn, please
(677) Ango: the Mermaid Gorin or my price will fall
** (675) GORIN seems very distracted with his own thoughts **
(675) GORIN: yes sir sir yes sir
(679) Kerrick: Tell me, Gorin... do you get many travelers here?
(675) GORIN: he runs off, waving for you to follow
** (678) Taura tries to keep up **
** (675) GORIN is a human, about 12, skinny, but very energetic **
** (677) Ango follows gorin, and is wary of being led into an ambush **
(677) Ango: Slow down boy!
** (675) GORIN slows for you to catch up, and you catch him mid-monologue **
** (677) Ango Ango whispers to his friends... boys at home like this often lead you past alleys, and things can go sour **
(675) GORIN: ...and then after the second king came, he said "We cannon win with just this force"
(679) Kerrick: second king?
(675) GORIN: but good king Zachius came along as well, and with the three armies together, they fought back the giant army and saved Akkadia, or so says the legends
(679) Kerrick: perhaps you could start over, Gorin. This time a bit slower perhaps
(675) GORIN: but that was a long time ago
(675) GORIN: it was in the days of old.... before this town was formed
(675) GORIN: the seven kingdoms warred with each other
(675) GORIN: until the Giants came, and crushed the armies one by one
(675) GORIN: they came from the south, so the legends say
(677) Ango: Gorin, you can continue your tale, but please don't forget where we're going.
(675) GORIN: and fought down the armies of Barador in the field
(675) GORIN: and then the other southern cities as well
(675) GORIN: the three southern cities paid a dear price of iron and slaves for their lives
(675) GORIN: four southern cities, that it
(675) GORIN: then the kings of the north, led by Zachius of Marakredor, met here
** (677) Ango interrupts Gorin **
(675) GORIN: first came Raal of Enkidor
(675) GORIN: then Raal of Tazrodor.
(675) GORIN: I always thought that was a bit funny, two kings named Raal
(677) Ango: do you remember the stories of the the days when the Orcs came?
(675) GORIN: but Zachius came as well, and together they matched their armies and defeated teh giants in battle at this very spot
(678) Taura: Nadorhuanrim!
(675) GORIN: And then the kings returned home, as did many of teh great warriors, but there was a hole mess of slaves that the giants had
(677) Ango: nevermind Gorin... go on
(675) GORIN: and they didn't all go home
(675) GORIN: nor did all the soldiers
(675) GORIN: and they made this place, a free town, without a king
(675) GORIN: which is funny, as it's named after where three kings met
(675) GORIN: but anyway, that's how three kings was founded
** (675) GORIN smiles at you boyishly **
(675) GORIN: perhaps my tale is worth a pretty to some fine travelling nobles such as yourselves?
(675) GORIN: the Mermaid isn't far ahead
** (677) Ango drops Gorin a copper **
** (675) GORIN is happy about it **
(679) Kerrick: Gorin
(675) GORIN: anyway, this here is the mermaid. HEY, AMANDA!
(679) Kerrick: I would beinterested int he beginning of the story, which I unfortunately missed
(679) Kerrick: WI would gladly give you another copper
(675) DM: I told you all I know of the legend... the giants coming from the south, and beating the kings of the south each on their own
(677) Ango: Gods of all Kerrick, don't start him up before I've got an ale!!!
(678) Taura: Maybe we should see a town elder
(679) Kerrick: ok, gorin
(677) Ango: right! you go see the town elder. Amanda and I have some ale to share.
** (675) AMANDA steps out of the door, a middle aged woman in her thirties, with long, curly blond hair and nice sized tits halfway out of her shirt **
(675) AMANDA: what can I do you for?
(677) Ango: yes indeed, ale to share
(678) Taura: Not before I get some food and loosen these bots
(679) Kerrick: A room and some food and drink, please.
(677) Ango: Rooms my lady! We need rooms for our weary feet and ale for our parched tongues
(678) Taura: I'll have an Ale
(678) Taura: and some food
(675) AMANDA: A room for you five?
(675) AMANDA: or just beds for the night?
(675) AMANDA: a room'll be harder, but for some coin I could do it
(678) Taura: Where are the beds?
(675) AMANDA: in the back, and some upstairs in the loft
** (677) Ango hands GORIN his silver VERY discreetly **
(675) AMANDA: I've already got a half dozen caravan men in the loft, but I could squeeze you all in
(677) Ango: Thankye lad
(677) Ango: Caravan men! They smell like their oxen.
(678) Taura: How much for the room?
(679) Kerrick: mow much for a room?
(679) Kerrick: how*
(675) GORIN: I'll just be waiting out here if y'all need anything
(677) Ango: good lad
(675) AMANDA: for a room, well, I already promised it to this pair of merchants, but they're like to get drunken and dumb, and I could pawn them upstairs
(675) AMANDA: I'd say 5 silvers, mostly to cover their ale and apologies
(675) AMANDA: and that'll cover your meals
(679) Kerrick: fair enough
(677) Ango: Gents, I've paid Gorin. How about sharing the cost of the room?
(679) Kerrick: I"ll take it
(679) Kerrick: the room, I mean
(675) AMANDA: OOC: BTW, my AOL is crashed right now
(677) Ango: WE'LL take it
(675) AMANDA: very good... coin up front, as is the custom in these parts
** (675) AMANDA smiles sweetly at Kerrick, and winks **
(677) Ango: silvers gents
** (679) Kerrick hands over the 5 silver **
** (679) Kerrick wonders what Amanda's problem is **
(675) DM: Amanda takes the silver and points you to a picnic-style bench in the corner
** (678) Taura takes a seat and unlaces his boots **
(675) DM: you find your seats, bustling through the roudy crowd of about 40 packed into the small common room
(675) DM: some are arm-wrestling, some are chugging, some are just eatign and talking
(675) DM: all seem very happy
(679) Kerrick (whispering): test whisper
** (677) Ango Wanders off to find Amanda to ask about a bath **
(675) DM: your food shows up not long after, halfed loaves of hot brown bread, and bowls of brown broth
(679) Kerrick (whispering): first chance I'm going to "detect magic all over the guys in our group AND then the peopl ein this room
(678) Taura: Well, I guess if Ango doesn't want his food....
(678) Taura: I'm sure I can eat for two
(675) Amanda: No baths, sorry. Water's too tough to lug over from the well. Maybe tomorrow morning I could have one made up if you'd really like
(677) Ango: OOC bastard
whispering to Kerrick, okay...no magic detected
(677) Ango: I would indeed
(678) Taura: OOC :)
** (675) Amanda comes back to check on you and see if you'd like some drinks. She has a light beer, and a stronger stout from some winter wheat **
(678) Taura: Winter wheat
** (677) Ango returns to the table **
** (675) Amanda lays a hand on Kerrick's shoulder and rubs it while she talks **
(675) Amanda: Stouts it is!
** (675) Amanda wanders off to get the drinks **
(679) Kerrick: Water!
(677) Ango: Ahh! She likes 'em small!!! You'll have a rare time with that one Kerrick!
(675) Amanda: Here are your drinks, boys. A copper a piece, but the whiskey is on the house!
** (675) Amanda slides a shot of whiskey down in front of Kerrick **
** (677) Ango drops a copper **
** (678) Taura drops a copper as well **
(679) Kerrick: No thank you. I don't drink.
(677) Ango: Ah, but I do!
** (677) Ango grabs his whiskey **
** (678) Taura Takes a swig of his stout. And then continues to eat the welcomed hot meal **
(675) DM: You continue on eating and drinking for some time
(675) DM: go ahead and talk for a bit
** (677) Ango downs whatever he can lay hands on **
(678) Taura: Ok, once we are done, we should talk to an elder
(677) Ango: Kerrick? you don't drink? But that's no way to treat such a gracious hostess.
** (679) Kerrick tries to listen to the conversations around the room **
(677) Ango: An elder in a town without a king?
(677) Ango: I'm not so sure we'll hear much more than old wive's tales and remedies for cold humors.
(675) DM: Listening about, you figure out that the big group of burly men, 8 in total, are merchants from Barador
(678) Taura: It can't hurt to try
(677) Ango: I suppose.
(675) DM: they're leaving in a couple days back to the south, after unloading supplies here
(677) Ango: But what's the need?
(677) Ango: Your riddle?
(675) DM: other then that, you have some herders who live in town, talking about rumors of a bear
(678) Taura: Yes, the riddle, and if what of the Orcs
(677) Ango: The orcs?
(675) DM: some farmers who live a couple hours to the south, in town selling some barley and whiskey
(679) Kerrick (whispering): interested in bear rumor... can I hear any more?
(675) DM: and 3 men who just seem to want to get drunk
(677) Ango: ooc Good men
whispering to Kerrick, you need to ask to hear more
(675) DM: after a bit, one of teh drunks gets up and staggers over. "HEY ELF!"
** (678) Taura looks over **
** (678) Taura hand carefully on his hilt **
(677) Ango: Now this should be interesting
(675) RANNOS: You're the biggest freaking elf I've ever seen!
(677) Ango: Taura... they're just drunk
(677) Ango: no steel

(675) RANNOS: What's the matter, elf?
(677) Ango: it's a fine pastime
(675) RANNOS: Afraid your little arm will fall off?
(675) RANNOS: HA HA HA
** (677) Ango holds up a few coin **
(675) DM: many other people are laughign with him now
(677) Ango: I'll back the elf!
(678) Taura: I'd be happy to take yours off
(678) Taura: not with my arm, though
(675) RANNOS: lets go then!
** (679) Kerrick watches all this with mild interest **
(675) RANNOS: he swipes a couple empty mugs off a table nearby, and takes a stool
(677) Ango: Kerrick... hae you seen where the nearest door is?
(675) RANNOS's FRIEND: I've got your bet, dwarf
(675) RANNOS's FRIEND: 2 silvers on Rannos!

(675) RANNOS: what brings you this far south?
(675) RANNOS: we don't see many northers, especially in the spring. Too hot for yall
(677) Ango: he took a grevious wound in his enthusiasm a while back
(677) Ango: any higher, and they might have taken his razor wits too
(677) Ango: Much too hot I admit
(677) Ango: I'm on my way south to the courts of the kings
(677) Ango: Im just another errand boy
(675) RANNOS: That's quite a sword
** (677) Ango gives RANNOS a silly grin **
(678) Taura: What sword would that be?
(677) Ango: yours I'd bet
(675) RANNOS: That 5 foot lenght of steel on your bench there
(677) Ango: Taura has expensive tastes
(679) Kerrick: [1d20] -> [11] = (11)
(677) Ango: He paid a fortune for it
(679) Kerrick: OOC: oops
(677) Ango: Where were those merchants from?
(675) RANNOS: Barador
(675) RANNOS: They've been staying here a few days, and seem nice enough, but aren't much interested in talking
** (678) Taura drinks his stout **
** (677) Ango looks around to Matthias and Kerrick... hoping to get some help here before he finds we've killed someon **
** (677) Ango passes Taura another stout **
(675) RANNOS: Me, I've been working caravans to the south for some years now. Earning my gold with odl fashioned steel dancing
** (679) Kerrick seems totally uninterested **
(677) Ango: Not interested in talking? Now that's not merchantlike.
(675) RANNOS: OOC: Everyone make FORT checks
(677) Ango: Steel dancing is a fine pastime.
(679) Kerrick: OOC: I'm not drinking
(677) Ango: ooc, is fort just raw constitution?
(678) Taura: [1d20+5] -> [14,5] = (19)
(677) Ango: ooc I am, heavily
(675) RANNOS: They say they're headed off soon, but they've been saying that for days
(675) RANNOS: CON + your class bonus
(675) RANNOS: on your character sheet
(677) Ango: [1d20+2] -> [16,2] = (18)
(679) Kerrick: OOC: how do I do dice things? like a 1d20+5
(675) RANNOS: type in 1 to the left of the dice
(675) RANNOS: then +5 to the right
(675) RANNOS: and click the d20 button
(679) Kerrick: OOC: cc.. thanks
(675) RANNOS: So, have you any news from the north?
(677) Ango: yes my friend
(677) Ango: but only a bit
(675) RANNOS: Speak!
(677) Ango: and it's ill news I'm afraid
(677) Ango: ah, we've had some orcish troubles
(675) RANNOS: Outlawed whoring?
(677) Ango: HAHAHAHAHA
(677) Ango: my Gods you've guessed it
(675) RANNOS: Orcs?
(677) Ango: why else would I come south.
(677) Ango: yes, orcs
(675) RANNOS: Like half-orcs, slaves brought from the tribal lands to the west, right?
(677) Ango: they're coming in from the wilds
(677) Ango: no
(677) Ango: orcs, goblins
(675) RANNOS: That be bad news, indeed
(677) Ango: and bigger things
(677) Ango: from our travels
(678) Taura: Do you know of anyone else that has seen them?
** (675) RANNOS downs a mug, then picks up Angos and finishes it too **
(677) Ango: I've heard that it's happening elsewhere
(675) RANNOS: I haven't heard hide nor hair of orcs from the wild
(677) Ango: not yet.
(677) Ango: but I'd stick to shorter trips in your steel dancing
(675) RANNOS: I saw one a few months back. A slave brought in from the western lands
(677) Ango: some folks have said they've run into Ogres
(675) RANNOS: he was brought out to the square and flogged for killing his master
(677) Ango: well, the south should be fine for some time.
(675) RANNOS: biggest thing I ever did see
(677) Ango: big one?
(677) Ango: ah
** (679) Kerrick gets up to find Amanda **
(677) Ango: I'm glad to be a dwarf, they see you men first!! Ha!
(675) RANNOS: I understand they're all big. Bigger then me
(675) RANNOS: Bigger then your mute friend here, too
** (675) RANNOS points to Jeremiah **
(677) Ango: heh
(677) Ango: Yes I expect most are
(677) Ango: but that means I can have at their ankles.
(675) RANNOS: What news of teh Kings of teh north? Are the sons of Raal and Raal going to rise to the fight again?
** (677) Ango Nudges Matthias **
(677) Ango: I recall, Matthias that your friends had some dealing with goblins was it?
(675) RANNOS: my father marched last time something came out of teh iwilds. He no came back, though
(677) Ango: Now that I can't tell.
(677) Ango: I just carry letters.
(677) Ango: I don't read them, or I'll be carrying my own head as well.
(675) RANNOS: And that's why the dwarf comes down from the mountains
** (679) Kerrick returns.. too hard to navgiate past many drunk big people **
(677) Ango: Yes
(675) Amanda: Hello halfing friend. How are you? DId you like the whiskey?
** (675) Amanda is a bit drunk, and then some **
** (677) Ango Grins broadly at Kerrick **
(675) Amanda: Would you care to come see one of my fine rooms?
(677) Ango: Ay RANNOS, she likes 'em small>
(679) Kerrick: Alas, I do not drink, kind Amanda. My drawf friend swept up the drink before there could be any protest.
(679) Kerrick: I am truly sorry.
(678) Taura: I'll take a look
** (675) Amanda leans forward to pick up a glass, and kerrick's head is suddenly three-amigos in her busom **
(679) Kerrick: OOC: hah taura
(675) Amanda: do you do other things?
** (677) Ango Kerrick, you rat. If you waste this chance, so help me... **
(679) Kerrick: other things?
** (675) Amanda leads Kerrick off to go "inspect the room" **
** (679) Kerrick gets up and goes over to Amanda **
(675) RANNOS: AMANDA strikes again
** (678) Taura continues to work on his stout as he listens **
(675) RANNOS: at least this time he's full grown
** (677) Ango discreetly makes crude hole and poker gestures **
(677) Ango: Finally!
(677) Ango: I swear, those halflings havent' the foggiest
(677) Ango: But then, he is a slight thing, and Amanda looks strong.
(677) Ango: HA!
(675) DM: any other important questions?
(677) Ango: none
(678) Taura: OOC not from me
(675) DM: things are dying down, and you find your way to the private back room.
(675) DM: two single beds for four of you, and a bar to put across the rood
(675) DM: door
(677) Ango: OOC I just spread the word. I don't write it
** (677) Ango beds down after a good leak, and starts snoring immediately **
** (677) Ango next morning **
(675) DM: everyone else get a drink... I'm workign with larry on the side
(677) Ango: ooc Right! to the pisser
(675) DM: almost done
(675) DM: the next morning, you wake to hear Amanda singing sweetly, cooking Kerrick an omellette
(675) DM: the merchants, it turns out, did leave at first light
(679) Kerrick: Ango, find out where the merhcnats went!
(679) Kerrick: ...if you would be so kind...
(675) DM: Your helper, Gorin, says he saw them head north, out that road, then came back to see if good Sir Ango would need anything
(675) DM: He also says that they were talking funny talk. Not common. He didn't know it, thought
(675) DM: though*]
(677) Ango: right
(679) Kerrick: they were normal-sized?
(675) DM: after breakfast, you can head out into the town.
(675) DM: yes, 8 men. A bit big and burly, but normal humans
(675) DM: Gorin is willing to show you anthing you might need
(675) DM: There's the temple
(675) DM: and the square
(675) DM: there are alwyas shops set up there
(675) DM: or the Main ave, where the craftsmen are
(677) Ango: Matthias, Taura what do you lot need?
(677) Ango: I'm content to get my bath and get moving again
(679) Kerrick: Where is the tannery located?
(675) DM: or he could take you around the outskirts
(675) DM: on the west side of town. The lye stinks real bad.
(675) Gorin: he used to be in the middle, but people made him move
(678) Taura: I do not need anything
** (679) Kerrick asks Grin to provide a rough location of the tannery, temple, square, and main Ave **
** (675) Gorin is more then willing to show you around **
(679) Kerrick: Sorry Gorin, I wish to do some things on my own today
(675) Gorin: okay
** (675) Gorin frowns, and gives you directions to everything **
(679) Kerrick: Thank you Gorin.
(675) Gorin: the temple is next to the square, in the middle, and is hard to miss
** (679) Kerrick hands Gorina copper **
(675) Gorin: main ave leads out from there going to the south road
(675) Gorin: and teh tannery, go west and follow your nose
(675) DM: where do you go?
** (675) Gorin leans in real close to whisper **
(675) Gorin: I could also show you a secret place under the temple
(677) Ango: Now that's something.
(675) Gorin: but it's dangerous
** (679) Kerrick whispers, "You can, you say? How dangerous?" **
(675) Gorin: Really dangerous!
(675) Gorin: Temple guards don't like anyone going in there, and if they catch you .... ER!
** (679) Kerrick whispers to Ango, "We need to wait 3 days for the really interesting things." **
(679) Kerrick: OOC: ER?? Emergency Room?
(675) Gorin: OOC: "er" like "ah" or "ooh"
** (677) Ango Three days? Why is that? **
(679) Kerrick: OOC: ARRRRRRR
(675) Gorin: OOC: HA HA
(679) Kerrick: Well Gorin, how do YOu get in there?
(679) Kerrick: could we just do the same?
(675) Gorin: OOC: THe whisper fuction seems to work very well in this game, so feel free to use it
(675) Gorin: I could show you!
(679) Kerrick: I would like that.
(679) Kerrick: Ango, I'll explain later
(675) Gorin: there's a trap door from the cellar of old man Johnson's shop
(675) Gorin: from there you can sneak down into the old catacombs, but that's no big thing
(675) Gorin: if you know the way through those, you can get further down, into the old caves
(679) Kerrick: continue..
(675) Gorin: They say the Giants built them
(675) Gorin: I've only ever looked at them, but never gone in. I'm too afraid
** (678) Taura listens intently **
(679) Kerrick: why are you afriad?
(675) Gorin: ooc: brb piss break
(675) Gorin: go
(675) Gorin: Do you want me to show you those?
(675) Gorin: OOC: knock knock?
(679) Kerrick: yes, please
(679) Kerrick: but why are you afraid to enter the caves?
(678) Taura: Sure I'd like to see them
(679) Kerrick: OOC: test
(675) Gorin: They are scary! And I'm only a boy
(675) Gorin: lets go!
(679) Kerrick: of course *smiles*
(679) Kerrick: let's go
** (678) Taura follows **
** (675) Gorin leads you thru alleys and back streets, back merchants and bums **
** (675) Gorin eventually reaches a door, looks around, and kicks it just right to get it to pop open **
** (675) Gorin ushers you all into a dark room and closes the door **
(675) Gorin: then down a ladder into a root cellar, and moves some tarps over a trap door
(675) Gorin: you all head down into a pitch black, mildewy corridor... the catacombs
** (678) Taura readies his dagger **
(675) DM: on either wall are shallow cuts, with bodies lain inside, covered in death shrouds
(675) DM: they go five up either side, and the ceiling is tall, at least 12 feet
(675) DM: Gorin says that we need some light to go on
(675) DM: the corridor is abotu 3-4 feet wide
(678) Taura: Anyone got a light?
** (679) Kerrick sighs when he realizes nobody has a light **
(684) Matthias: :lights his flint and steel (how do I make it go green when I do something)
(679) Kerrick: Taura, coudl you give me something to hold up, please?
(684) Matthias: onto a torch
** (678) Taura asssits Keeric **
(679) Kerrick: Ah.. Matthias has a torch
(679) Kerrick: good.
(675) DM: just before Mattias's torch kindles, Kerrick poitns at it and pure white light beams out of the end
(675) DM: "WOW!" says Gorin.... this way
** (678) Taura squints at the bright light **
** (678) Taura and turns his eyes away **
(675) DM: he leads you along teh winding hallway, the light strong but also soft, no brighter then a candle to look at, but carrying far out from the torch
(678) Taura: OOC doh
(675) DM: farther then you would say that it could
(675) DM: or should
(675) DM: you turn left, then right, then right again, winding through the catacombs
(675) DM: you come to a long straight hall, then left, then right, into a larger square room with a tomb in the middle
(679) Kerrick: who's tomb is that?
(675) DM: Gorin dusts off teh top, looks at the head of teh engraved figure, and turns to the right
(675) DM: "King Zachius, or so it is said"
(675) DM: "shhh"
(675) DM: he goes to the second set of burrial shelves, climbs up to the third on, and climbs onto the shelf and into the darkness
(675) DM: "come on, this is it" you hear hollowly through the hole
** (678) Taura calls, barely above a whisper: **
(678) Taura: Gorin, don't stray too far
** (678) Taura follows Gorin'svoice **
** (679) Kerrick goes **
(679) Kerrick: ...with the torch
(675) DM: You can all easily take your time (about a minute each) and climb up after him, squeezing through the hole)
** (678) Taura Removes his long bow and other items **
(675) DM: through the shelf, past some old bones, is a 10 foot long, 2 foot high and 2 foot wide tunnel
(678) Taura: Kerrick can hyou hold these as I call through?
** (678) Taura crawls through the hole **
(675) DM: You all go through the hole
(679) Kerrick: give Taura his stuff when he's done
(675) DM: on the other side, you are on the bottom of a low ceilinged room, leading off to the left
(679) Kerrick: is the boy there?
(675) DM: yes
(675) Gorin: This is as far as I've ever gone
(675) Gorin: If you go that way.... it leads down into the Giant's caves
(675) Gorin: My friends told me so once
(675) Gorin: when they went
(679) Kerrick: do you know anythnig else about the Giant's caves?
(675) Gorin: they went once for about 5 minutes, and said this spiraled down, turning left for what seemed like forever
(675) Gorin: then they said at the bottom was a big room
(675) Gorin: they came back that time
(678) Taura: at least they came back!
(675) Gorin: but then the next time they tried again, and they said they were going to keep going.... but they never came back
(675) Gorin: I'm going to go now... I'm afraid
(678) Taura: OOC doh again
(679) Kerrick: I See
** (675) Gorin scrambles back out of teh hole, and you hear a weak "good luck", then nothing **
(675) DM: so, what do you do?
** (679) Kerrick hands Gorin a copper. "Can you find your way back?" **
(679) Kerrick: oh.. ok
(679) Kerrick: well... let's go down
(678) Taura: I want to see what this place is all about
(679) Kerrick: ok, let's go
(684) Matthias: I"ll follow you down
(675) DM: you follow the hall, a channel about 6 feet tall and not much wider, down
(675) DM: it does spiral to the left, and does seem to go on forever.
(675) DM: The magic light starts to fade, and Kerrick renews it
(675) DM: Not long after, the tunnel levels out, and opens into a large chamber. You cannot see the far side, nor the ceiling
(675) DM: ahead you see what looks like cobble stones on teh floor
(675) DM: as though it was once paved
(675) DM: what do you do?
(679) Kerrick: hmmm
(678) Taura: Is there anything interesting in this room?
(678) Taura: On the walls? Ancient texts?
(675) DM: the walls diverge to the right and left, and ahead is blackness
** (678) Taura tries to look for tracks **
(684) Matthias: Place your foot carefully
(675) DM: the walls are somewhere between cut stone and water-worn stone
(684) Matthias: there might be trick panels
(684) Matthias: on the cobblestones
(678) Taura: wise words cleric
(684) Matthias: our great hero sartorious almsot lost his head in the Arastian trials by stepping on the wrong stone
(675) DM: you are standing at the entrance to the big room
(679) Kerrick: OOC: whoa... hey Matthias
(684) Matthias: OOC: NyQuil has worn off
(675) DM: who is leading?
(684) Matthias: The smal and nimble among us may be the safest to lead
(675) DM: they get to make a Spot check to find traps
(684) Matthias: they may be able to detect movements in teh stone
(678) Taura: I guess I am
(679) Kerrick: I would prefer not to go. I am not the most nimble.
(675) DM: roll SPOT as you progress, slowly and cautiously
(678) Taura: [1d20+7] -> [11,7] = (18)
(675) DM: you pick what you think is a safe path along the large cobblestones
(675) DM: about 50 feet out or so, as you lose site of teh walls behind, you see ahead what looks like a tall step, 3 feet high
(675) DM: getting closer, it's a staircase of very tall steps, all about 3 feet high, leading up into the darkness, and stretching out to the right and left
(678) Taura: Let's go towards the stairs?
(679) Kerrick: I guess
(675) DM: to the distance on the sides, Taura and Matthias's elven eyes can make out the shadow of teh walls
(679) Kerrick: This step is almost as tall as I am
(678) Taura: Ok, we head towards the stairs
(675) DM: you reach the stairs, they go up, and teh walls seem to have closed in to about 50 feet wide here
(684) Matthias: pulls out his holy symbol
(684) Matthias: OOC: honestly, how do you make it a statement written in green! help me out here
(675) DM: do you go up the stairs?
(675) DM: "/me"
** (675) DM says /me **
(679) Kerrick: OOC: "/me "
** (684) Matthias looks around **
** (684) Matthias and says a silent thanks to the gods in the other world and to Arast **
** (678) Taura Looks up the stairs and carefully walks up **
(675) DM: You climb, one stair at a time, helping Kerrick and Ango over the hurdles
(675) DM: about 10 stairs up, the walls are only 20 feet apart, and the ground levels out
(675) DM: OOC: Rum rules
(679) Kerrick: :)
(675) DM: heading forward, careful again, you see more cobbled floor and cleanly cut walls
(675) DM: following to the right, you reach more stairs, but this time in the middle of the room, leading to a platform
(675) DM: do you go up?
(678) Taura: We've come this far ....
(679) Kerrick: I guess
(675) DM: you climb three stairs, and it levels out to a large dias
(679) Kerrick: OOC: wheeeeeeeeeee
(675) DM: ahead, you can see the shadow of pillars
(679) Kerrick: any bones of little boys?
(675) DM: a line of them
(675) DM: no
(675) DM: what do you do? Taura, you're in the lead, so it is your choice
** (678) Taura continues forward catuiosly **
(684) Matthias: if we are on a dais we are at a dead end?
(675) DM: you pass under a line of pillars, each extending beyond site up, and about 2 feet wide, carved with unknown runes
(675) DM: make a INT check everyone
** (684) Matthias glances at runes **
(678) Taura: OOC oh great
(675) DM: roll is, beyotch
(678) Taura: [1d20-2] -> [2,-2] = (0)
(679) Kerrick: [1d20+2] -> [18,2] = (20)
(678) Taura: ooC hahaha
(684) Matthias: [1d20+2] -> [18,2] = (20)
(675) DM: HA HA HHAHAHAHHAHAK
(679) Kerrick: haha
(678) Taura: OOC WOWOWOWOOW!~!!!!!
(675) DM: okay, Kerrick and Matthias recognize one swirly rune in particular. It is the same one that is on one of the necklaces that Jeremiah took from one of the orcs
(675) DM: ahead, you can see what looks like a pedastal, only it's about 8 feet tall
(675) DM: and there's something large on top
(678) Taura: Ed' i'ear ar' elenea!
(679) Kerrick: ?
** (678) Taura By the sea and stars! **
(679) Kerrick: I canm't make it up
(675) DM: Jeremiah could lift Taura up
(675) DM: or Kerrick
(675) DM: or Matth
(675) DM: he offers
(679) Kerrick: how about someone just has a look?
(678) Taura: I'll go up
(678) Taura: Kerrick, have MM ready :)
(675) DM: Jeremiah boosts you up, and you look at the top
(679) Kerrick: always, Taura...
(675) DM: it's a pedastal, about 3 feet across, and on top it spreads, to about 6 by 3
(675) DM: sitting on the right half is a gigantic book, taking up half of the top of the thing
** (678) Taura makes sure that it is safe **
(675) DM: the book is about 2 feet tall, 3 wide, and almost a foot thick
(675) DM: you see nothing special around it
(675) DM: just a dusty book
(678) Taura: It may better for Kerrick or Matthias to look at this
(678) Taura: Detect magic...?
(675) DM: you could pick it up
(679) Kerrick: ok
(675) DM: and put it down below
(679) Kerrick: boost me up
(684) Matthias: climbs up when t gets down
** (678) Taura gets down **
(679) Kerrick: NO
(675) DM: Kerrick is boosted up, and sees the book
(684) Matthias: oooc
(679) Kerrick: donot touch it
** (678) Taura helps Kerrick **
(679) Kerrick: detect magic on book
(679) Kerrick: and surrounding area
(675) DM: no, Matt goes because he spoke first
(675) DM: Mat, you're up there
(675) DM: what do you do
(679) Kerrick: what? scroll up
(675) DM: you are casting your spell while he's acting
** (684) Matthias looks at the book to check the runes **
(675) DM: Roll a Knowledge Arcaca
(675) DM: Arcana
(675) DM: or Religion
** (678) Taura watches and makes ready to provide any assitance **
(684) Matthias: [1d20+2] -> [14,2] = (16)
(684) Matthias: Casts read magic if he can't read the runes
(675) DM: you recognize the runes as beign related to those of teh Storm God
(675) DM: But they are related to those in much the same way that the runes of Enki are related to those of Arast
(684) Matthias: Hmm.
(675) DM: hold on
(679) Kerrick: brb
whispering to Matthias, By the Might Of Kronos, I Record These Deeds
whispering to Matthias, It's the ancient speach, you think
whispering to Matthias, Ancient Speach, which you've seen some scrolls writen in. Jonah said that was the language of teh gods, but no man can speak it, only read it
(679) Kerrick: back
(679) Kerrick: OOC: where's Liam?
(684) Matthias: Sirs
(684) Matthias: this book is written in the language of the gods
(675) DM: OOC: I think Liam is still in the tavern, hitting on the bartendress
(684) Matthias: I have rarely seen this.
(684) Matthias: I will need time to decipher
(679) Kerrick: we don't have time
(679) Kerrick: we have limited light
(675) DM: What do you do?
(684) Matthias: Can we take it with us
(679) Kerrick: wait
(684) Matthias: I think it might be the key
(679) Kerrick: lsomebody lift me up
** (684) Matthias pulls him up **
