Holby’s Regiment
By WanderPaw

Originality: Although this site has few original aspects or activities, it does put a few new twists on old activities, such as putting a time limit on replying to missions for double points, and the Training and Waterbeast activities are also creative ideas. This site is also unique in that it gives its members a lot of freedom in their submissions, which appears to work nicely.

Creativity: This site earns high marks in creativity. Not only does Holby do an excellent job of bringing new activities and pages to his members, he also puts a lot of work into making banners, buttons, and submitting activities of his own to the site. This score is only tempered by the fact that the site does not have a creative setting, story, or name.

Updates: Although Holby’s Regiment has not had regular updates lately, previously it has updates listed every few days. Every webmaster knows what it’s like to get swamped by school and submissions, so I’m giving Holby the benefit of the doubt.

Navigability: The site is very easy to navigate, and I found no broken links. Although the layout is not particularly creative, it is clear and straightforward, always a plus in any type of site. However, in the club sections, it was difficult to know what all of the pages were based on the link names.

Effort: It is obvious that Holby has put a lot of effort into this site. From banners and buttons to big plans and active membership, he has shown himself to be a hard worker. Holby seems to have a lot of optimism, and reassures us that he is currently working on several “secret” projects.

Activities: There are enough activities to keep members as busy as they care to be, and the types, requirements, and difficulties of activities are also well rounded, and include a contest. A huge plus in this area is that not only does Holby provide activities for members, but ones for non-members as well.

Achievement: As Holby will tell you, this site has come a long way since its creation, and its webmaster and members have big plans for the site. Holby’s Regiment has fulfilled its creator’s wishes in becoming an active, friendly place, but isn’t going to stop there. I look forward to big things from this site.

Initial Impression: The initial impression of the site, though fair, has room for improvement. I think the site is lacking an over-all coherency of color scheme. If the webmaster stuck to using one or two complimentary color variations, the site would have a much greater appeal at first glance. Although it would take a lot of work, converting to the same background, button and banner formats, and link colors would really improve the site. The opening page does no convey the true quality of the site within.

Legibility: The site does very well on being direct, with almost no spelling or grammar errors. However, some of the instructions on the activities were a little vague or not as clear as they could be. And as I said before, the site would be much more pleasing to the eye with a continuous and complimentary color scheme or theme.

Atmosphere: The site itself has a friendly atmosphere, and provides areas for members to interact. However, although this site has a fair amount of members, very few of them appear to have participated at all. The forums do not seem to be well used, but they are also very new. And on a more personal note, after a while some of the midis get a tad annoying. My advice would be to cut down on the songs, or at least make it so that viewers can turn them off. After a while, I had difficulty concentrating on the review because of the music ;)
