Ringet Loris
Originality: Unfortunately this site is not very original. There are countless Redwall Abbeys floating around in cyberspace, and many, many role-play sites. The webmistress is, however, one of those rarer characters, an Abbess. In the R.O.C. now, most characters tend to be bold, wild adventurers, and finding the gentle, caring, stay-at-home type is much harder. I haven’t met another character with the name “Ceara”; but her species, a hedgehog, is one of the commoner Redwall species.
Creativity: There is not much I have seen in the way of Ceara’s own work, but this site does not really demand that, as it is a role-play site. The design is simple, but it creates the right effect for an abbey.
Updates: As the site has only existed since the 6th of May, and has only obtained two members since then, there is not much possible for the Abbess in the way of updates. The site is carefully maintained, however, and any shortage of updates is due to a lack of enthusiasm of the members.
Navigability: The links are laid out in common format, down the left hand side of the page. They are easily accessible, in a simple frame. None of the links are broken.
Effort: There was plenty of effort on the part of the webmistress, in creating this website. Unfortunately, I cannot say the same for the members, who appear not to have participated. The Abbess was worried about creating the html for the website, but, nonetheless, has managed to come up with a good, navigable design.
Activities: There is not a real diversity of activities, being as this is a role-play site. Apart from the role-play boards, there is only a nameday contest. However, there are many different roleplays, 14 in-character boards, for the different sections of the Abbey, and 2 out-of-character boards, “Redwall Stuff” and “Everything Else”.
Achievement: As the site is only two months old, it’s difficult to tell what the webmistress has achieved. I first looked around it when it was nine days old and it was very hard to navigate and it had no members. Now it is easily navigated and has two members. The Abbess would like it to become a popular role-play hangout, but she is obviously a long way from achieving this.
Initial Impression: When you come to the introduction page you appear to be in a field, and you can see the Abbey in the distance – there is a grassy background, and a small picture of the Abbey. You are greeted with a couple of cheery paragraphs inviting you in, and the overall air of the place is very welcoming.
Legibility: Everything is perfectly clear, and good grammar and spelling is used. The text is always visible and legible against the background. Simple graphics are used, so the site is not overpowered by them, and it loads quickly. The site is not cluttered, and the forms work.
Atmosphere: The owner, Ceara, and her other character, Kya, are very pleasant. The scenes set for the roleplay are nice, but unfortunately there is no role-playing. There is a general homey air about the Abbey, but there is not much interaction.
