Valve Cover Gasket replacement
Tools needed
- 8mm deep socket
- 10mm socket
- flathead screwdriver
now what?
- start by taking off the negative cable of your battery to avoid the unexpected.
- unplug the hose that goes from your intake manifold to the valve cover.
- unplug the hose that goes from the intake pipe to valve cover.
- unplug all spark plugs wires (remember where each one goes to)
- unplug ignition coils
- using the 10mm socket, unbolt the 4 bolts holding the coils down to the valve cover and then remove it away.
- unbolt the 8 bolts holding the valve cover down to the head (start with number "a" bolt as you see on the pic below then 7 then 6 then...... till 1 (using 8mm socket)
- unbolt the cam position sensor that's located on the left side of the valve cover closer to the exhaust manifold with a plug going into it (using 10mm socket)
- now try to pull the valve cover off the head, not coming out easily, did you unbolt all the bolts holding it down? yes, then carefully use the flathead screwdriver going in between the bottom of the valve cover and the top of the head till the valve cover comes off.
- did it come off yet? okay now take the old gaskets off and clean its deposits from the valve cover and the top of the head very carefully.
- now place the new valve cover and spark plugs gasket where they belong to (I used very minimal amount of RTV to hold the gasket down while I am putting the valve cover back on the head or you can also use Mitsubishi gasket sealer.
- using the figure below, tighten the valve cover bolts in the sequence shown.

- now it's just a matter of putting everything back together and you are done.
