The 82nd Airborne Buck....11/10/2008

After a long week of bowhunting Ohio's pre-rut from November 1st through the 10th, I went out on Monday, November 10, 2008.....at 4:45 PM.....I see this doe being chased by this buck..both deer were "hauling the mail" thru the woods....I grunted, can bleated....the buck stopped [but I knew better..the odds of drawing that buck off a hot doe were slim to none]. I thought...you know....you have had a helluva week...you saw lots of deer..had some opportunities....became one with nature for 12 hours straight every day!!! Who cares...enjoy yourself....remember that first deer you finally shot many years ago..... At 5:10 PM.......I could NOT believe my eyes...this hot doe....was working her way towards me....unfortunately she was quartering into the wind and my scent stream would hit her when she was in range.....from some MIRACLE from God...the wind shifted...she missed my scent and fed 20 yards away.. The buck was 30 yards behind her on the same trail....unfortunately the wind shifted back...when he got to 25 yards facing dead-on to me....he stopped...I know he got a nose full of my human "stink".... I was standing now...he was looking up at me.....the doe was obviously in heat....her back hindquarters were all ruffled up from where he had mounted her several times..... The Mexican stand-off ensued for 5 minutes.....he looked at me....she scuffled a couple of steps....he would look at her.....finally...he took one step...turned slightly quartering to me....when his head got behind a tree..I drew my Bowtech 82nd Airborne back... one more step......click...........thawaaaccck.... The Slick Trick Grizztrick entered his front left lower shoulder.....pierced his left lung....centered his heart....centered right lung and exited...he made it 30 yards....stood there...then fell over.. My buds at ArcheryTalk had been giving me grief for not smiling in my "hero" shots...so here you go fellas...one big happy GRIN!! Another Ohio Bruiser of a Buck....10-pointer, #240 live weight.

Until next year.....
