Isolation
Speaker Stands-
if you have bought stand-mounting speakers like the Kef Q15's, Ruark Epilogues
etc, you will need speaker stands. Brother has a pair of Atacama Nexus 6 at
only £50, a bargain- but they require filling with lead shot as they are too
wobbly. Increases bass presence & treble detail, stereo image tremendously.
Don't just bung your speakers anywhere (on top of a cupboard) you're not getting
the full potential out of them. I have a pair of Target R's, 4 column with filling.
Very very heavy!
System Racks- quite essential as most racks from the high-street are rubbish, too small have poor ventilation, and bad isolation from the floor. Expect to pay between £180-£350 for a good rack. Townsend audio make very nice but expensive racks with suspension, these are around £1000! There are basically two types- variable & welded. Welded have the most strength & rigidity, but shelves cannot be moved up/down, and more shelves cannot be added.
Stands Unique, adjustable
with extra shelf support.
Adjustable,
extra shelf support
Welded.
Rigid, but not upgradeable to extra shelves.
Wall stands-
ideal for sensitive components like record decks or CD players.
Platform. Use
them under record decks, CD players or Speakers. Or use concrete slabs under
speakers for a cheap alternative- lightens up bass, and reduces 'room boom'.
Concrete Blocks. From £3. Use under the main front speakers to reduce room boom. A cheap alternative from £200 speaker platforms, and work just as well.
Spiked feet. Use under
components/speakers to add extra isolation. £10-£20 approx for 3 or 4. Made
from metal, wood or other materials such as carbon fibre, fiberglass etc.
