With Russia's involvement in the war now concluded, Lenin sought to rebuild the country after 4 years of conflict. The people however were still outraged by the Brest-Litovsk treaty and the humiliation that was caused in the surrender to the Germans. Russia, now became embroiled in a Civil War, the Bolsheviks known as the "Reds" would fight against the "white" forces. The whites being made up of Tsarist supporters, anti-Bolsheviks, national separatists from the Russian controlled states and most significantly, the foreign interventionists from America, France, Britain and Japan.
Without doubt, Lenin was fighting off all his potential enemies in the one war. The white forces however were not one united group instead they were a series of small foces all under different leaderships. The Red forces under the leadership of the Army Commissaar, Leon Trotsky was one united force, highly disciplined and all sharing the one goal of defending the Bolshevik revolution. It was therefore inevitable that the Reds would prevail, the army in a successful campaign took the key Trans-Siberian railway and then sought to defeat each white group one at a time.
