Josh smiled as he took in his surroundings. Mexico was really a gorgeous country. He was at a secluded villa, which over looked the ocean. Josh inhaled the fresh sea air as it came in from the water. He looked out his window to the scene below. There were people dancing downstairs to a lovely ballad being played by a Mariachi band. A gentle rain started to fall. The band was covered, so they kept playing, but a few dancers ran for shelter. And so, my love, from my window I can see a beautiful vision and when the music plays, your body rises like a bird of grace.
And then he saw her, dancing in a red dress. He couldn’t take his eyes off of her. She danced alone, but with incredible grace and skill. Mi morena, I saw you dancing in the rain. Holy water, shining like a silver flame. Come like a ghost, I will watch you dance alone. Mi morena, you’re the light within my soul. Just then she looked up and saw Josh staring at her. She smiled at him and then went inside.
“Cut!” yelled the director. “That was great everybody, we’re gonna keep it. Sabrina, you’re a gorgeous dancer.” Sabrina blushed as she dried off. “Thanks, Penny.” When she saw Josh running towards her, Sabrina’s heart leaped into her throat. Would he notice? What would she say if he did? Josh scooped her up in his arms and kissed her. “Good job, now you’re wet too.” He ignored her. “You looked so beautiful, Bri. I’m so glad you agreed to do this.” “I still think you’re crazy for wanting me instead of a model or something. I have to admit, it’s a lot of fun. This scenery is breathtaking, isn’t it?” Sabrina still couldn’t believe she was here. How did she get Josh to talk her into this? Due to high Grobanite demand over the six months since Closer’s release, they were shooting the video for Mi Morena. This was a special surprise for the fans and would only be available on Josh’s websites. Josh immediately insisted that they use Sabrina; they already had chemistry and he wanted Sabrina to share in some of his spotlight. Her being half Latina and therefore looking the part was gravy. “Are you hungry? I think lunch is ready.” Sabrina nodded and followed Josh to the lunch line.
Sabrina’s stomach was in knots; she could hardly eat. So far, Josh hadn’t noticed her ring. Every time she tried to tell him, nothing came out of her mouth. She decided to just leave her ring alone and wait for Josh to notice.
After lunch, they went down to the beach. Sabrina changed into a yellow shirt and a yellow and red sarong wrapped around her like a skirt. Josh took off his jacket and rolled up the sleeves on his button down shirt and the legs of his pants. They joined hands and strolled on the beach together barefoot. Take this cross of feathers and bone. Take this heart I've carved in stone, in your name… Neither one knew exactly when the cameras started rolling. They danced slowly together in the sand. They splashed each other with water and chased each other around the beach; they acted like people in love.
As the sun was setting, Josh stood behind Sabrina with his arms around her waist. She put her hands over his and they watched the sun set together. Josh stretched their arms out a little, interlaced their fingers and held her closer. He leaned in and kissed her temple. Sabrina turned her head and looked at him. She gently ran her fingers down his cheek. And where the setting sun surrenders to the moon, mi querida, I’ll wait for you. It was then that Josh finally noticed Sabrina’s ring. She was wearing it on her left hand.
Penny yelled cut and the crew scrambled to get everything back up to the villa. Josh and Sabrina stayed behind. “Bri, what is this?” “Josh, I’m sorry, I kept trying to tell you, but I couldn’t.” Josh’s expression was a mixture of hurt and confusion. “Tell me now.” “I wanted to tell you that I’m ready and I think we’re ready for the next step. I’m asking you to marry me.” For five full seconds, Josh didn’t say a word. “I can’t do this now.” He walked off towards the villa. Sabrina felt like she was going to cry. That wasn’t at all the reaction she was expecting. She thought that Josh would be thrilled. They’d been back together for almost a year and in this beautiful country, in this romantic setting, it seemed right. Slowly, she made her way to the costume trailer for her next change.
‘I’m such an asshole’, Josh thought. The woman he loved just proposed to him and he just walked away from her. He hated himself for it, but part of him felt cheated because he didn’t get to come up with a romantic way to express what was in his heart. He grabbed a snack from a nearby table and went off by himself to think. “Josh?” Penny’s voice sounded behind him. “We’re ready for the next shot. This is the last one, so we may wrap early.” “Thanks, Penny.” “You know, Sabrina’s really something. I’m glad you pushed so hard for her to be here.” “Me too.”
Josh was walking past the costume trailer when Sabrina emerged. She wore a traditional white Mexican dress with a red shall wrapped around her waist. Her hair hung down around her shoulders and a rose was tucked behind her ear. “Bri, I’m sorry.” “No, I’m sorry. Did I completely mess this up?” “No, baby. Not at all. I was just surprised. We hadn’t talked about this for a while and then out of nowhere, your ring is on the other hand. And I hate to admit it, but I always thought I’d be the one proposing. I’m sorry I let machismo spoil everything. Did I completely mess this up?” She kissed him quickly. “No, love. Not at all. So, what happens now?”
“Josh! Sabrina! We’re ready for you. We need to get this before we lose the light,” yelled Penny. Josh kissed Sabrina’s hand and took his position inside. He watched her from the window as she walked into the courtyard. There was a large fountain in the middle and flowers and ivy hung on the walls. Mi morena I saw you dancing in the rain. Holy water shining like a silver flame. Josh smiled as he left his window and walked downstairs. He knew exactly what he wanted. Come like a ghost I will watch you dance alone.
Josh emerged from the villa into the courtyard and walked towards Sabrina. She was barefoot, walking on the round fountain wall, gracefully putting one foot in front of the other. Like a dancer, her steps fell toe and then heel. She didn’t see him until he was right in front of her. Mi morena, you're the light within my soul. Josh hugged Sabrina around the waist and rested his head against her stomach. Mi morena, hold your hands out to the night. Be my lover, I will fall into your eyes. Then he picked Sabrina up and twirled her around slowly before gently setting her down. He gently held her head so his palm rested on her cheek and his fingers played in her hair. Sabrina put her hand over his heart. Sweet fire of love, for you I'd steal the stars. 'Cause I adore you, o my morena. Finally, slowly, they kissed deeply. They embraced as the music faded and the crew cheered. “That’s it folks, we’re done! You two are amazing, thank you.”
Sabrina started to pull away when Josh held her closer. “Yes,” he whispered in her ear. “What?” “I’ll marry you.” Sabrina rested her head on his shoulder as they held each other in the moonlight. Everyone was running around them, cleaning up the set and watching the footage over the past two days. They naturally assumed the couple was celebrating the end of the shoot, instead of a new beginning.
