East best the West

While the west division team fell short during Saturday's Niagara and District Junior C Hockey League 2010 All-Star Game, there wasn't any complaints from local players.

The 8-5 loss was simply outweighed by the rare opportunity to compete against the very best players from the east division.

"It was good," Norwich all-star Curtis Logan said. "There were some really nice plays."

Joining Logan on the west-division squad were Merchants Todd Kemp, Mike Rebry and Matt Coutts, who shared netminding duties with Woodstock goalie Alex Gegeny. The other Renegades to make the all-star team were defenceman Ethan Doan and forwards Jordan Minello and Travis Horvath, who notched a helper on a third-period goal by Paris's Brandon Pinksen.

Logan also scored a shorthanded marker early in the second period on a play with Norwich teammate Rebry.

"We got a goal representing Norwich," Logan said. "That was a lot of fun."

The Niagara East team jumped to a nearly lead with first-period goals from David Ferritto, Jesse Parker and Anthony Scornaienchi.

Scornaienchi added his second on a power play early in the middle frame while Connor Rilett, Andrew Kolodley, Robert Bentivegna and Richard Recchia rounded out the east scoring.

Pinksen had a second third-period goal for the west while Simcoe's Ryan MacGreggor and Paris's Greg Chevreau rounded out the team's scoring.
