==Overview:==

      Relatively newly developed urban combat Mech, the PLX-1A Phalanx is

primarily an infighter, but is still capable of hitting targets at range.

 

==Capabilities:==

      The Phalanx's main armament is the paired Harpoon 6S Streak SRM-6's in

each side torso. These missiles launchers are capable of devastating targets

at close range, and are backed up by a pair of RAMTech 800 Medium Lasers in

each forearm.

 

      The long-range punch is provided by an Artemis IV assisted Holly LRM-10

in the right shoulder. This allows the Phalanx to engage at medium to long

ranges with a high probability of hitting its target.

      A 340 Pitban Light Fusion engine provides the energy needed for a top

speed in excess of 64 kph. It also powers the quartet of Rawling 80-beta Jump

Jets in the back, giving the Phalanx an impressive 120-meter jump capacity.

==Deployment==

     Mainly used as a garrison unit, the Phalanx's high dependency on

ammunition based weapons, and lack of energy based long range firepower, limit

its suitability to most attack missions. Only when fast, decisive battles are

expected is the Phalanx ordered to the front.

     Thus, most Phalanx's on active duty are often found defending rear

echelon bases and supply lines.

==Overview:==

     Developed under sub-contract by Troll Mech Works of Sty, the PLX-1B

variant of the Phalanx is geared to more long-range combat that its

predecessor.

 

==Capabilities:==

     The first thing people notice about this new variant is the re-arranging

of the weapons systems: the originals paired Harpoon 6S Streak SRM-6 racks

have been replaced with a single Holly "Ballista 15" LRM-15 system. This gives

the Phalanx improved long-range firepower.

      For medium range combat, the four RAMTech 800 Medium Lasers have been

replaced by two RAMTech 1200 Large Lasers, increasing damage at longer range.

The extra heat is amplified by the loss of three double heat sinks, forcing

the pilot to be more careful when they engage in combat.

       The shoulder mounted Holly LRM-10 rack has been replaced by five SRM-2

pods, allowing for targeting of multiple enemies at close range. The one

drawback is that there is only enough ammo for ten volleys from all the

launchers.

       To improve survivability, the engineers at Troll Mech Works added CASE

panels to the ammo bins. They also moved the jump jets to the legs.

==Deployment==

     Quantum-Tech Industries has switched to a 50/50 production run on the

Phalanx, splitting the two lines set aside for it so one produces the A, and

the other the B. Those OCDF units that have been issued the Phalanx-B have

said that it is an improvement on the A, but the sharper heat curve is still

tricky.

     Due to the contract between Quantum-Tech Industries and Troll Mech Works,

the smaller Sty based operation is allowed to produce a small number of

Phalanx's each year. Most of these have been sold to mercenaries, while some

one or two have made their way to Solaris VII.

     How they do is yet to be seen.
