OFFICIAL RECORD:
Ton Phanan
(human male from Rudrig)
As a child Ton Phanan was intrigued by insects, and that interest carried over into his adult life even though he pursued a career in medicine*. That interest came form the fact that his own body's was allergic to bacta, the super-healing fluid used the galaxy over. He joined up with the Rebel Alliance but at the Battle of Endor, serving as a doctor in a medical ward on a Rebel frigate, the ship was struck and Phanan was hit by a beam super-heated by laser fire. He woke up two weeks later with a mechanical leg and a prosthetic shell over the upper portion of the left half of his face.
With a cold blue eye, thin immaculately trimmed mustache and beard, Ton Phanan became a pilot because he wanted revenge against the Empire that had crippled him. He became a pilot but his mechanical parts and attitude made him a difficult prospect for any unit. So he ended up on Wedge Antilles' list for his new X-wing unit built around commando skills rather than piloting. As a fully-licensed doctor, Ton served as Wraith Squadron's medical officer. Constantly cracking jokes, Ton would turn the charm on for the ladies but began to realize none of the women saw a possible future with him. He blamed his failing body and mechanical replacement parts. And then Ton began to see little future for himself.
At the battle above Ession, Ton had to eject from his X-wing only to be hit by shrapnel. He ended up losing his spleen to that injury, requiring even more prosthetics. When the Wraiths, flying as the mercenary Hawk-bats, were ambushed on Halmad, Ton's fighter was hit and crashed. Ton's best friend in the unit, "Face" Loran went to ground and found Phanan seriously injured. But while they were being pursued by Imperial troops Ton Phanan died from his injuries. Face found out Ton had made him his sole recipient in his will but not without one condition. Ton saw in him the same problem he had but he knew how to help Face. To receive the not-insignificant amount of money Ton was leaving him, Face would have to have removed the facial scar he had kept from his youth, a reminder of his unintentional support for the evil Empire he had grown up in. source**
Here ends the Official Record.
*at the Rudrig International Medical Academy (RIMA)
**After Ton "died," Face got into the Tie fighter he was flying and blasted Ton's remains so that they could not be found or recognized. Face's first shot was actually off center, and the initial shockwave threw Ton's body clear of the wreckage of his own fighter. Face proceeded to turn Ton's fighter into slag. General Cracken's people (intelligence agency/spies on Halmad) saw the fighters, and ventured out to the location later to search for survivors several hours later. They found Ton's body, and took it back to camp.
A medical officer there recognized him, and ran some tests. He found out what Ton and Face could not know: for the first time in his life, Ton had misdiagnosed a patient. Far from dying, he had fallen into a coma. He was immediately rushed to the nearest medical facility, and given care.
Miraculously, he pulled through, and after being debriefed, he chose the most out-of-the-way planet he could for medical leave. He chose Earth, where he met Skysong, and the rest is history.
