Profile: Arete Vésilagor

This profile is based on...uh, actually, I don't know, I hafta ask Arete...

Name: Arete Vésilagor

Age: late teens-ish, early twenties in appearance(except that in actuality, she's half-elf, so it's more like hundreds)

Race: half-elf, half-dragon (see Backgrounds/Origin for how that is possible)

Hair color: dark brown with natural red highlights

Eye color: dark brown

Height: 5'9 1/2"

Clothes style: travel: tunic, loose leather pants, chain mail vest, light tall boots, cloak, gauntlets

battle: tunic, loose leather pants, boots, breastplate, metal shinguards, gauntlets, cloak

casual: tunic, pants, cloak, gauntlets, boots

Garments are usually blue, grey, black, or green. Armor is dull silver. Always wears belt with scabbard. Also has two twin black sheaths. (TN: to match...two twin daggers! yay...)

Personality:Tends to not trust people until she is completely comfortable around them. If she likes the person, she is nice, has a sense of humor. If she doesn't like the person, she is very rude, nasty. Tends to be cold sometimes (TN: sometimes? more like all the time...sorry:P)Basically doesn't have good people skills. Has a strong sense of honor and her own code, which is a mix of things she has picked up from others and/or developed on her own. Really likes studying the history and cultures of places (despite her lack of people skills, as said earlier), which is one of the things that keeps her wandering. Her decisions are sometimes ruled by her heart and not her head. (TN: As corny as the last sounds, it's true. TN from Arete: It is not corny!!)

Weaknesses: Doesn't have good people skills. Stubborn (sometimes a weakness, sometimes a strength).

Pet peeves: Good-looking, brainless "warriors". Stuck up people. People who don't see the importance of differences. People who make opinions about groups of people before they have experienced them. Stereotypes, prejudices. Being bored. People who completely depend on magic and not on actual strength

Significant other: Link

Relations: None. Well, none that are alive or biologically connected, anyway (see Background/Origin). Aidenmare Morwen in like a sister to her (they were raised as sisters)

Main powers: The ability to see the heat signatures of things. Can shape-shift into a wolf and a raptor. An ability inherited from her father(a dragon) is the ability to select an object and match its speed, when she does this, it looks, to her, that she is moving at a normal speed. This is not very helpful: it renders her unconscious because her body cannot handle the strain (TN: and also because, well, think about it. What if she selected a snail and matched its speed?)

Side powers: Can learn basic spells. Ex: a very simple transportation spell.

Transport of choice: Arcturius, her horse. She can use many other types of transports upon need, as well.

Weapon(s) of choice: Sangnarus, her sword. A staff--does not possess (sp?) any type of properties. Just a nice, stout wooden pole. Two twin daggers, good for stabbing, slashing, and throwing. She also likes blasters, guns, when she is in a D/W/U/etc. that allows it.

Background/Origin: (kind of history--you might want to skip if you don't want to read the whole thing...except that it helps explain stuff that might be helpful in fanfics and understanding her) Arete was raised as a sister to Aidenmare in Saravir, and they went through many adventures together before they split up. (For a more complete description, see Aidenmare Morwen's profile).Arete traveled rather aimlessly, hoping to find out more about her origins (which is why this in the origin section). She unknowingly entered a portal and ended up in her homeland, Gwyth. Gwyth is the home to three races: dwarves, elves, and dragons. The higher dragons look like dragons and are pretty damn big, but the lesser dragons take on the more convenient form of humans, thus allowing interbreeding between elves and lesser dragons. There was a little catastrophe which involved a half-elf, half-dragon destroying a huge section of Gwyth in the hopes of domination, so the Council of the Four Elders banned interbreeding, thinking that the cross-breeding produced crazy offspring. Arete's mother was an elf and her father was a lesser dragon. They didn't listen to the rules and ended up with a half-breed, which was strictly forbidden. Someone somehow found out about all this and betrayed them, making them fugitives. In a desperate, last effort, Arete's father went to the lesser dragon representative on the Council of the Four Elders, who had opposed the ban on interbreeding. He begged him to help save his family, and if not all of them, then at least the child. The Elder sent Arete to a different plane: Saravir. Arete learned all this when she arrived back in Gwyth. She was promptly arrested for being a half-breed and brought before the Council. The Council was no longer the Council of the Four Elders; it was the Council of the Four Races. It was corrupt and beginning to crumble. The corruptness had spread like gangrene. Soon, the higher dragon Elder, the elf Elder, and the dwarf Elder were infected and resorted to bickering and gained a lust for power for their race and them. The lesser dragon Elder had retreated into the shadows and, while he still had a voice in Council affairs, he was doing his best to cut himself off from the bureaucrats. He had a feeling that one day the Council would destroy the land with their prejudices and selfishness. He decided to gather a group of beings in an effort to preserve their civilization. He planned to send them into the D/W/U/etc. He told the Council they would be guardians. They'd learn about other realms and help those in need. The Council liked this idea and asked the Elder to pick four people. The Elder chose Arete, Aetryn, a lesser dragon, Resinaas, an elf, and Grayved, a dwarf. The Council was very enthusiastic about this project (it is still unknown why). They named them Wandering Guardians. They decreed that there could never be only one Guardian. If only one remained, he/she would die. The four were sent out into the D/W/U/etc. They wandered as a group for a long time before they split up. Arete returned to Gwyth and found a land of death. The Council had destroyed Gwyth in their fighting and quest for power. So, she continued wandering.
