A CHALLENGE TO UFO RESEARCHERS:
The Billy Meier Case

Dear UFO Researcher,
A couple of weeks ago I invited, or if you prefer, challenged, a number
of UFO researchers to look into the Billy Meier UFO contact case, or to
refresh their acquaintance with it and to please let me know if, in
their considered opinion, it is genuine or a hoax. Those are the only two
possibilities, of course. If you were not one of
those researchers, feel free to respond anyway, pass this on to someone
who is, or just pass on the whole thing. So the rest of this letter is
intended for those who are indeed UFO researchers, whether this is the
first they are hearing from me or not, and further deals with my
challenge:
As someone who professes to be a UFO researcher, please advise me of
your conclusions
regarding the Meier case. If you say that it's a hoax, I'm sure you can
prove that and I, for
one, would want you to show me just how Meier did it and how he has
maintained it
publicly for over 40 years.
If it's not a hoax, it's obviously the most important story in all of
human history and I'd be
wondering what in hell you've been doing in the so-called field of "UFO
research" since
you've ignored the very that thing you, as a UFO researcher, claim to
be looking for.
Certainly the nonsensical chasing after lights in the sky would be seen
to be a rather
meaningless charade if the Meier case is authentic (especially since so
many of these lights may well be terrestrial craft, among other
things).
I have likened the situation to that of avowed elephant hunters
completely ignoring the
elephant sitting in the middle of the room. And while you may think
that this is a
rhetorical, or even mean-spirited, exercise it is neither. I just can't
pretend that the
emperor has clothes on when it's clear that he hasn't and, as far as
I'm concerned, the UFO researchers collectively appear to be that
emperor.
Now some people have criticized my approach as harsh but still refuse
to answer the
simple yes-no question regarding the Meier case. Perhaps if I do appear
confrontational
it's because I perceive the importance of the Meier case to be far
beyond ego or career
considerations, as it pertains specifically and directly to our future
survival (which you
might know if you've actually troubled yourself to research it). So
whatever loss of status,
fame, income, credibility, etc. one fears will occur by dealing
conclusively with the Meier case and its implications, these should be far
below secondary to its monumentality, as I'm sure anyone with an ounce of
integrity would agree...should it be genuine, of course.
And, for those of you who chase after and earnestly report every
so-called "sighting", I
have to ask you this: to what end? Are you hoping to make a definitive
pronouncement to
the effect that there are extraterrestrial craft visiting our planet?
And if so, so what? What
then? What is it supposed to mean?
Are the "space brothers" going to:
Give us the secrets to "free energy"?
Cure all our deadly diseases?
Take you (or anyone else) off the planet?
Intercede to stop wars and terrorism?
Fix our environmental destruction?
Of course, the answer to all of those questions is: no, absolutely not.
And in case you're
waiting for the government to 'fess up to a cover-up, that one's a big
zero too. So, is there
something else that I've missed, some other reason that one researches
UFOs and
adamantly ignores the only real, proven, still ongoing (63 years),
proof and information-
rich case in all of history? Really, have I missed something here or is
it as painfully simple as it, and most of the UFO researchers, appear
to be?
We don't have any more time for this phony waltz about UFOs. It should
be clear that their presence hasn't been intended to simply give us a
new form of amusement, or to create a new career for us to pursue. I
intend to hold the researcher's feet to the proverbial fire at every
opportunity I get until I have heard a definitive answer from everyone who
thinks they're anyone in this field. So, time's up, game's over, let's
take a look at the score. Will history reveal that those who claimed to
be most interested in, and qualified to research, the most important
story in all of human history were actually the biggest impediment to
it's revelation and applied value?
Will we have an even more historically important replay of the Church
vs. Galileo, this time referred to as the Church of Ufology vs. Billy
Meier?
Did we, "team humanity", win the game or did we lose because those who
should have
been playing with us, and for us, decided to play only for themselves
and to keep the
game going long after it should have been decided...and won?

Pieces of Metal
Excerpt
… Which brings us to the famous Billy Meier case. He also presented
metal as evidence of his contact. He acquired his samples in a very
different and unique way. His contact, a female humanoid, gave him five
pieces of metal and explained that they represented the five steps used in
creating the outside skin of their “Beamships.” The metal pieces were
turned over to Respected research chemist Marcel Vogel who had worked for
IBM for 22 years. Dr. Vogel holds 22 patents and was the inventor of
the magnetic coating memory system on floppy discs still used by all of
us today.
According to Gary Kinder in his study of the Meier case Light Years
(1987):
“ …One microscope area revealed “an enormous mélange of almost all of
the elements in the periodic table.”
And each element was exceedingly pure … What intrigued Vogel more than
the number of elements and their purity was their discreteness: Each
pure element was bound to the others, yet somehow retained its own
identity.
“In one small area in the middle of [one of the samples] blown up five
hundred times, he found two parallel groves joined by furrows. But even
more surprising to him was that the major element in that small area
was the rare-earth metal thulium … “Thulium was only purified during
World War II as a by-product of atomic energy work, and only in minute
quantities. It is exceedingly expensive, far beyond platinum, and rare to
come by. Someone would have to have an extensive metallurgical knowledge
even to be aware of a compound of this type.” (Page 250).
It might be noted here that Billy Meier is a poor one-armed farmer.
It’s beyond doubtful that he could have somehow afforded or even known of
this rare, expensive material.
After running many tests on the Meier fragments Dr. Vogal concluded:
“I could not put it together myself, as a scientist. With any
technology that I know of, we could not achieve this on this planet. I think it
is important that those of us who are in the scientific world set down
and do some serious study of these things instead of putting it off as
peoples imaginations.” (From the video, “Beamship: The Metal).
After awhile we start to see a pattern of indisputable facts emerging.
Metal and objects from UFOs have been found. However, they do not “fit”
the scientific and “Ufologists” rules for study. They all consist of
earthly elements. Of course, at no time will they bring up the subject of
the fabrication of the material in question. Because the earthly
element samples presented are beyond out present technology to manufacture
people might get to thinking “maybe, just maybe… UFOs could be of earthly
origin!” And they can’t have that.
It’s also pretty evident that the government flunkies haven’t gotten
their grubby hands on all of the hard evidence. But, they have found an
amazing way to discount the stuff they missed.
Controlling the info
Back in the 80s when I first heard of the Billy Meier case I located
everything I could about the case. I read Light Years (1987) by Gary
Kinder, the much more informative UFO Contact – The Pleiades: The
Preliminary Investigation Report (1982) by Wendelle Stevens and Message from the
Pleiades: The Contact Noted of Billy Meier (1988). Then I viewed the
Beamship trilogy, Beamship: The Meier Chronicles, Beamship: The Movie
Footage, and Beamship: The Metal.
I was completely blown away!
Here were perfectly clear movies, stills, sounds and actual metal
fragments believed to have come from the occupants of these strange craft.
All being analyzed by the best, most respected experts in their
individual fields, using the most modern, sophisticated testing equipment
available. Then, each expert in turn stating, they couldn’t explain any of
the presented evidence using today’s technology, nor, could they find
any tampering with any of the materials analyzed. At the same time (and
continuing even up to today) on television “UFO Experts” are still –
after 50 years- arguing over little squiggles of light and fuzzy dots in
the nighttime sky. What is wrong with this picture? After all, the Billy
Meier contacts contain all the proof of the existence of these craft
needed.
My next move was to go online on CompuServe and access the Paranormal
area of the Forum. I know that this was an area where people
knowledgeable in the UFO field meet. Surely they could enlighten me as to why this
case was being ignored. What I found was amazing! Most of the
“informed” members of the forum had never even heard of Billy Meier. Those who
had told me in no uncertain terms that “Billy Meier was a fake.” The
problem was that no one could tell me where to fine the evidence proving
this to be true. The stock answer was that it was just “common
knowledge.” I did, however trace down the source of this information as coming
from MUFON, one of the larger and better-known UFO groups. They had
decided that Billy Meier’s claims were a hoax. They weren’t sure how he had
been able to afford and pull off the hundreds of photos, movie film
etc., but they were positive it was a hoax. Unfortunately for us and
fortunately for the ‘keepers of the secrets’ a lot of people seem to !
take what MUFON declares as the gospel without checking the facts for
themselves.
The arguments over the Meier case has always centered on the photos and
movies. Even though the experts say it would have cost a lot more money
that Bill Meier could have had to make just one of these photos. I
however realize, as do most of you (and I’m sure the “experts” will agree)
that photos and movies are easy to fake. So let’s disregard the Meier
Photos altogether.
But, what about the metal? Just as with the other metal we have studied
in this report, (1) They are all of earthly elements, (2) They are all
manufactured into a finished product that could not have been created
with any known process. What intrigued Vogel more than the number of

Let the debunkers address this.
Without Proof
Shortly after finding out where the “hoax” information had originated I
happened to attend a meeting of a local UFO group in Orange Park,
Florida. The guest speaker was a UFO investigator, writer and MUFON
official, Donald Ware. During his question and answer period I asked him why
MUFON had taken this stand in regards to the Billy Meier case. His
answer: He didn’t know … and he added:
“I disagree with them in regards to this case and I’ve personally asked
them to change their official position concerning Billy Meier.” Not
surprisingly, they haven’t.
My next step was to call Windelle Stephens at his home in Arizona. Mr.
Stevens had been one of the investigators of the Billy Meier case, and
had written the most detailed book on the subject UFO Contact – The
Pleiades: The Preliminary Investigation Report (1982). The story he told
me was as follows:
When he and the investigation team returned to the United States from
Switzerland with the original photos, sound recordings, metal samples
and other evidence, the other UFO groups led by MUFON felt the evidence
should be turned over to them for analyses. However the investigating
team had already decided to turn the samples over to scientists and
specialist outside of the “UFO community,” in order to get an unbiased
opinion. They also wanted the materials to remain an unbroken chain, passing
through as few hands as possible. So they refused to turn the materials
over to the other UFO groups until after the experts were through with
it.
My further research indicates the immediately, even before any of the
expert findings were in, key personnel in the “UFO Community” began a
campaign to discredit the Billy Meier story. Without ever looking at the
findings of the unimpeachable experts the major so-called “Ufologists”
began to shout “No fair.” They felt they should be able to study this
stuff first. At least, they said, let our “experts” examine it. Finally,
once they saw they were not getting their way they decided that the
Meier investigators are hiding something, It’s nothing but a hoax anyway.
This childish attitude has remained until today and, unfortunately has,
either by design or by foolishness, squelched the most important alien
contact of our era.
Since then I have found the Col. Stevens had a right to fear what might
have happened to the evidence had he turned it over to one of these
organizations. I have heard many stories of the top “establishment” UFO
groups misplacing, ignoring and delaying important information. Donald
Ware, at the meeting I mentioned earlier in this report told us of a case
of a lady who gave MUFON a photo of an alien on her TV screen which was
taken while the TV was unplugged. As Ware reported, “MUFON held this
information back from it’s members for two years!” And that from an
officer of MUFON!
Now don’t get me wrong. I do not believe that every member of MUFON is
dirty. To the contrary, I believe that most of the members and
officers, (like Mr., Ware,) of this most important group are honest, sincere,
truth seeking people. I also believe that over the years MUFON has
supplied us with much useful information. But, I also believe that their
ranks could be contaminated with government moles who may have obtained
key positions which they quietly use to cover-up, reducible and destroy
the creditability with regards to important cases. In fact, I believe
it’s possible that the whole “UFO Community” is like the KKK in the
sixties … more government agents than true members.

HONG KONG: It's news, but not as we know it, say believers
An advertisement for Cable TV misleads readers to believe a fictional
account of a UFO sighting

UFO enthusiasts yesterday complained that a newspaper flyer featuring
an unidentified flying object hovering above Victoria Harbour was unfair
to their beliefs.
The four-page broadsheet advertorial, published by the Chinese
newspaper Oriental
Daily News, was in fact an advertisement for a new Cable TV
subscription package, "ultimate family offer".
But the front page featured a "news" article claiming many people
witnessed a giant spacecraft flying over the harbour without any correlation
to Cable TV.
"Advertisement" was printed in small characters on the top left-hand
corner.
The advertorial was given away yesterday at MTR stations.
UFO researcher Prodip Leung Wai-ting, who is working on a documentary
on UFOs in China, said it misled the public.
"It is to arouse people's attention but still it's not appropriate.
What if there's something real happening in the future? People would still
think it was fake," Mr Leung said.
Wan Hoi, a UFO researcher and renowned author of books on mysterious
subjects, said it was unfair for UFO believers….

Since the early 1960's a triangular area of the Atlantic Ocean has
been the source of many strange tails and anecdotes which, on
occasion, have involved UFOs and apparent abductions. This area lies
between the 20th and 40th parallels the three points of the triangle
have come to be accepted as the east coast of Florida, Puerto Rico
and of course Bermuda. This notorious area of the ocean has been
given a number of names, The Devil's Triangle, The Graveyard of the
Atlantic etc…, but it is almost always referred to as "The Bermuda
Triangle"…

Preamble
Destroying the Earth is harder than you may have been led to believe.
You've seen the action movies where the bad guy threatens to destroy
the Earth. You've heard people on the news claiming that the next nuclear
war or cutting down rainforests or persisting in releasing hideous
quantities of pollution into the atmosphere threatens to end the world.
Fools.
The Earth was built to last. It is a 4,550,000,000-year-old,
5,973,600,000,000,000,000,000-tonne ball of iron. It has taken more devastating
asteroid hits in its lifetime than you've had hot dinners, and lo, it
still orbits merrily. So my first piece of advice to you, dear would-be
Earth-destroyer, is: do NOT think this will be easy.
This is not a guide for wusses whose aim is merely to wipe out
humanity. I (Sam Hughes) can in no way guarantee the complete extinction of the
human race via any of these methods, real or imaginary. Humanity is
wily and resourceful, and many of the methods outlined below will take
many years to even become available, let alone implement, by which time
mankind may well have spread to other planets; indeed, other star
systems. If total human genocide is your ultimate goal, you are reading the
wrong document. There are far more efficient ways of doing this, many,
which are available and feasible RIGHT NOW. Nor is this a guide for those
wanting to annihilate everything from single-celled life upwards,
render Earth uninhabitable or simply conquer it. These are trivial goals in
comparison.
This is a guide for those who do not want the Earth to be there

World In 80 Days, a feat surely only conceivable under the influence of
coke.
Louis Bleriot had a bottle in his cockpit during his
strangely-accelerated flight across the English Channel.
Bartholidi, the architect responsible for the Statue of Liberty,
declared:
"Vin Mariani seems to brighten to increase all our faculties; it is
very probable that had I taken it 20 years ago, the Statue Of Liberty
would have attained the height of several hundred meters."
With his grinning, coke-addicted face on it no doubt.

coca-leaf extract, sugar and the caffeine-rich kola nut. Its name? One guess.
Developed by Atlanta pharmacist John Pemberton, Coca Cola was marketed

new America," good for "any nerve trouble, mental and physical
exhaustion."
Advertisements at the time declared the drink to be "one of the most
delightful, cheering, and invigorating of fountain drinks." No doubt. In
1886, every bottle contained the equivalent of a small but respectable

beginning of a bad joke but, in fact, it's a serious experiment recently
carried out by a team headed by a distinguished molecular biologist, Irving
Weissman, at Stanford University.
Scientists injected human brain cells into mouse foetuses, creating a
strain of mice that were approximately 1% human. Weissman is considering
a follow-up that would produce mice whose brains are 100% human.
What if the mice escaped the lab and began to proliferate? What might
be the ecological consequences of mice who think like human beings, let
loose in nature? Weissman says that he would keep a tight rein on the
mice, and if they showed any signs of humanness he would kill them. …

NASA's Cassini spacecraft finds atmosphere on Saturn moon Enceladus

The Cassini spacecraft has revealed that Enceladus, the icy moon of
Saturn, has a significant atmosphere, the US space agency NASA said
Wednesday.
Using Cassini's magnetometer instrument for their studies, scientists
at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory (JPL) indicated source of this
atmosphere may be volcanism, geysers, or gases escaping from the surface or
the interior.
When Cassini had its first encounter with Enceladus on Feb. 17 at an
altitude of 1,167 km, the magnetometer instrument saw a striking
signature in the magnetic field. On March 9, Cassini approached to within 500
km of Enceladus' surface and obtained additional evidence. …

India finds more 'tsunami gifts'
Indian divers have found more evidence of an ancient port city,
apparently revealed by December's tsunami
Stone structures that are "clearly man-made" were seen on the seabed
off the south coast, archaeologists say.
They could be part of the mythical city of Mahabalipuram, which legend
says was so beautiful that the gods sent a flood that engulfed six of
its seven temples.
Other relics were revealed when the powerful waves washed away sand as
they smashed into the Tamil Nadu coast.

The Archaeological Survey of India launched the diving expedition after
residents reported seeing a temple and other structures as the sea

The US is to pay $25.5m (£13.2m) to families of Hungarian Holocaust
victims as compensation for the plundering of family treasures in World
War II.
US officers took the goods from a train known as the Nazi gold train,
heading from Hungary to Germany in May 1945.
It was loaded with gold, silver, china, jewels, 1,200 paintings and
3,000 oriental carpets seized by the Nazis from Jewish families in
Hungary.
The money will be handed out to needy survivors of the Holocaust.
The settlement is the final chapter in the disturbing story of the Nazi
gold train.
Today it is estimated that the cargo might be worth as much as $90m
(£46m).
The train was intercepted by the US army, and never reached Germany.

The Global Consciousness Project, also called the EGG Project, is an
international and multidisciplinary collaboration of scientists,

Lakeside UFO's, little men, and green hoses--hoaxes?

A lot of people these days, I'm afraid, perpetrate Fortean,
UFO'logical, and cryptozoological hoaxes by taking and recycling old stories of
strange happenings, just changing names, dates, and places and maybe
adding some extra touches accommodating current preoccupations. I have
myself come across a whole chain of UFO "occupant" stories at lakeside
settings that sound all too suspiciously like of each other or of some
pre-1950 original tale.
In the last few years, I've felt my suspicions raised by an interesting
trio of weirdly similar reports of UFO's and "little men," manipulating
a green hose, seen at a lakeside in northern New America. This scenario
was allegedly witnessed by American teen-ager William Kiehl at Lake
Superior's Georgian Bay on Ontario in 1914, by a Canadian mining
corporation executive and his wife at Steep Rock Lake, Ontario, in 1950, and by
American anesthesiologist Gary Lincoff and his wife Susan at North
Conway Lake, New Hampshire, in 1998. The stories are so bizarrely similar
as to seem echoes of each other or of a probable common source. In each
case, the principal witness and one or several associates supposedly
saw an alien craft resting on the water of a lake, with several small
thin humanoids aboard busily working with a green hose siphoning water
from the lake. The 1950 Steep Rock Lake and 1998 North Conway Lake
reports, in particular, seem EXTREMELY similar--while it may be an ope!
n question whether the Steep Rock Lake story is derived from the
Georgian Bay story or _vice versa_!
As I have often wondered, has a UFO Close Encounter III hoax been
perpetrated transferring a classic Canadian 1950 case (itself a possible
hoax) to New Hampshire in 1998? And do both stories derive from an alleged
incident on Lake Huron in Canada in 1914? In December 2001, I read a
reprint of a 1998 story of a couple on a picnic by a New Hampshire lake
seeing UFO's with humanoids on the lake that _VERY_ closely resembles
the 1950 Steep Rock Lake, Ontario, case of a couple on a lakeside picnic
who saw a "flying saucer" with "little men" on the lake.
On Friday, December 14, 2001, "staurt\(Weird World\)"
<stuart@weird-world.com> posted a message "Tinkerbell" on "Mythfolk"
linked to Paul Schroeder's "Weird World" story "Tinkerbell" from
http:www.weird-world.com/article-detail.asp?fid=211. This story also appears
verbatim in "Tinkerbell" by Paul Schroeder in the "David Icke
E-Magazine".<davidicke.www.50megs.com/icke/magazine/vol7/metdot.html>, in
"Tinkerbell" at
<www.iwasabducted.com/schroeder/tinkerbell.htm>, and in MIND CONTROL
AND HYPNOSIS at <members.shaw.ca/val_thibs/mindcontrol.pdf>, all
apparently quoting the same original aricle.
The "Mind Control and Hypnosis" article at
<members.shaw.ca/val_thibs/mindcontrol.pdf> portrays Dr. Lincoff as a lifelong abductee continually
plagued by alien visitations since childhood, who has described his
ordeal at UFO'logical conferences. At the same time, Dr. Lincoff's
experiences do mot really seem to be corroborated by any sources outside Paul
Scrhroeder.
Schroeder's "Tinkerbell" described a sighting of two UFO's, with
spindly humanoid occupants, seen on North Conway Lake in New Hampshire, near
the North Conway mines, by Dr. Gary Lincoff and his wife Susan on May
13, 1998. While picnicking near some huge boulders on the lakeside after
boating on the lake, they felt the air vibrate as from an explosion's
aftershock though they heard no sound. When Dr. Lincoff climbed on the
boulders to see what had happened on the lake, he saw two saucer-shaped
craft with round black-edged portholes floating on the water, with
small spindly creatures in close-fitting dark suits and blue helmets moving
in unison like robots walking slowly on their upper surfaces.
Both ships had a slowly rotating hoop-shaped device at their tops. When
the hoop reached a point directly opposite the Lincoffs it stopped, as
did the creatures, who stared toward the couple's hiding place and
remained motionless.
The hoop was operated by a humanoid in a scarlet head covering, in
contrast with its crewmates' blue helmets. The Lincoffs hunkered down out
of sight of the humanoids, sure the aliens had spotted them, and saw a
deer come to the water's edge to drink. One humanoid placed a shiny
green hose in the water, at the same time discharging something from
another hose. The hoop rotated a couple of times, stopping when it faced the
couple, who always ducked behind the boulders when it pointed in their
direction. Two hours later, dazed, confused, and missing time, the
Lincoffs left the lake and headed home. That night, Dr. Lincoff stole into
his sleeping son's bedroom and removed 3 books by _Peter Pan_ author
J.M. Barrie, feeling repulsed by the idea of Peter Pan, an unaging figure
coming down from the sky to float children out of their bedrooms,
accompanied by a ball of light: Tinker Bell.
This, I've long felt, sounds suspiciously reminiscent of the 1950 Steep
Rock Lake encounter. On July 2, 1950, an executive of the Steep Rock
Iron Mines and his wife were picnicking on the lake shore after boating
on Sawtooth Bay of Steep Rock Lake in Ontario. Suddenly, the air
vibrated as if with a shock wave from a dynamite blast--but there was no
sound. The man climbed up on a rock outcropping to investigate, and saw a
large metallic saucer-craft with round black-edged portholes resting on
the water a quarter of a mile away. 10 "little men" about 4 feet tall in
dark clothing and blue headgear walked about on its "deck," moving and
turning about laboriously like robots rather than like normal people.
Atop the "deck" was a slowly rotating hoop-shaped object. When the hoop
pointed at a location directly opposite the two observers, it stopped
and so did the "little men." The couple felt the concentration was on
their location and ducked behind the rock. Each time the rotating !
hoop pointed in their direction, the couple ducked behind the rocks,
then stuck their heads out again 20 seconds later. The hoop was operated
by a humanoid with a bright red apparatus on its head while its fellows
wore blue headpieces. They saw a deer come down to the water's edge to
drink, with the humanoids seeming to watch it intently. Two bright
green hoses extended from the craft into the water, one seemingly sucking
water into the ship, the other discharging it back into the lake. The
last time the couple ducked and rose up again, the humanoids and hoop
were gone, and the craft rose from the lake's surface. Where it had rested
the water was tinted red with a slight gold cast. [Coral & Jim

Vallee, _Passport to Magonia_, Henry Regnery Co., 1969, Case #80, p. 195]
So many details of the two stories are curiously similar or identical.
Both sightings are by a couple picnicking at a lakeside after boating
on the lake--a lake near a mine named after it, in both cases! In both
incidents, the husband climbs on top of a rock to investigate after the
couple feels the air vibrate as from an explosion but with no sound. In
both cases, they see one (Steep Rock Lake, 1950) or two (North Conway
Lake, 1998) saucer-shaped craft with round black-edged portholes
floating on the lake. Both couples see small humanoids in dark clothing and
blue headgear walking around in stiff, robotic fashion on the "deck(s)"
of the craft. Both stories feature a slowly rotating hoop atop the
craft, from which the couple hides behind the rock every time it points in
their direction. The hoop, in both cases, is operated by a humanoid
wearing bright red headgear in contrast to its fellows' blue headgear. Both
stories likewise feature green hoses sucking water from the lake!
into the craft and then discharging it into the lake again. In both
stories, a deer comes to the water's edge to drink, and seems to be
watched by the saucer humanoids.
The main differences in the two stories, aside from the number of craft
allegedly seen, are the Lincoffs' "missing time," and Dr. Lincoff's odd
worries that night over aliens abducting children--worries that inspire
him to remove some _Peter Pan_ books from his sleeping son's bedroom.
In 1950, of course, nobody had yet ever heard of missing time or amnesia
in connection with UFO encounters, whereas it's a very common feature
of such encounters in the 1990's. Dr. Lincoff's anxiety over Peter Pan
and Tinkerbell as bedroom-invading alien abductors of children, too, is
a very 1990's, post- Budd Hopkins sort of fear. Both the missing time
experienced by the Lincoffs and the concern over one's children being
abducted sound like 1990's touches added on to a 1950's story. Such
touches have become, as it were, a "politically correct" feature of
millennium's-end UFO'logical discourse.
The Steep Rock Lake case was originally published in the _Steep Rock
Echo_, the "house organ" of the Steep Rock Iron Mines of which the
alleged witnesses were a senior executive and his wife, and has been called a
hoax. After outlining the story of the sighting, APRO (Aerial Phenomena
Research Organization) heads Coral and Jim Lorenzen admitted in their
_Flying Saucer Occupants_ (1967) that "some doubt has been cast on the
authenticity of the Steep Rock Case" by a Canadian APRO member who
claimed that the story was written by a Mr. Gordon Evans, "who did it as a
joke." The information about Gordon Evans came from the personnel
manager of the Steep Rock Iron Mines, and the editor of the _Steep Rock Echo_
"purportedly had a good laugh" when he read the account of the case in
American popular Fortean writer Frank Edwards' book _Flying
Saucers--Serious Business_. The Lorenzens remarked on all this, "Much could be
said about such shenanigans, which invariably cause many headaches!
among researchers, but we won't indulge." However, "in the interest of
accuracy," the Lorenzens had "presented available opinions concerning
the authenticity of the case" (Coral & Jim Lorenzen, _Flying Saucer
Occupants_, Signet Books, 1967, pp. 25-26)
"Staurt\(Weird World\)" <stuart@weird-world.com>, I fully believe,
submitted the Lincoffs' North Conway Lake encounter story to Mythfolk list
in perfect good faith. However, I'm not sure whether Paul Schroeder,
who wrote the account in Weird World forwarded by "Staurt," invented the
story himself as a latter-day updating of the Steep Rock Lake case, or
merely passed on as supposed fact a story initially concocted and
disseminated by someone else. As the story seems to somewhat resemble one of
those Protean, spontaneously mutating "urban legends" with no
ascertainable author, I'm willing to also give Schroeder the benefit of the
doubt. The point is not so much to identify a specific personal author as
to point out the story's numerous very specific and very detailed
resemblances to a much older story.
Both stories, however, seem weirdly--or suspiciously--reminiscent of
another case of a UFO floating on the water, with "little men" aboard,
being seen by some witnesses at a lake shore--a case _also_ featuring a
deer, and a green hose!! Long before the 1950 Steep Rock Lake (Ontario)
sighting, and Dr. & Mrs. Lincoff's 1998 North Conway Lake (NH)
sighting, there was William Kiehl's August 1914 Georgian Bay (Ontario)
encounter.
Eight people--16-year-old William J. Kiehl, two other young Americans,
a French-Canadian couple, and their three children--watched a spherical
craft with "little men" aboard resting on the surface of the water on
Georgian Bay, Lake Huron in Ontario, late one afternoon in August 1914.
Kiehl and his two American companions had decided that summer to
freightcar-hop their way to Vancouver and then to the San Francisco
Exposition of 1915. They had gotten a rowboat ride along the Georgian Bay
lakeshore by the French-Canadian couple, but the boat developed a bad leak
and they had to pull ashore at a small spit where the father could repair
the boat and the group could spend the night on the beach. Around 5
P.M., one of the children spotted a deer at the water's edge staring out
over the lake, at an unusual spherical craft 15 feet in diameter resting
on the water about 450 feet from shore. The girl called her mother, who
then called her husband and the three young Americans when she!
saw the craft.
On a square deck like substructure around the bottom of the sphere, two
"little men" in iridescent green and purple clothes worked with a green
hose 2 ½ inches in diameter, trying to untangle or un-kink it. Three
other "little men," wearing khaki-colored or light-brown clothes,
appeared from an opening at the top of the sphere, along with three pipes or
tubes. The "little men," according to Kiehl, were about 4 feet tall or
less, with "skinny" bodies and disproportionately large heads covered by
box-like yellow headpieces. The three "men" from the top opening
manipulated the pipes for a few minutes, then withdrew back down inside along
with the pipes. A hatch opened in the lower part of the sphere, giving
Kiehl a brief view of bright green tiles set in the opposite wall, the
hose was withdrawn inside, and one of the two "little men" on the deck
went inside. The craft then took off quickly and soundlessly, and
disappeared, leaving a short vapor trail. The other "little man" on!
the deck clung desperately to a chrome-like metal ring encircling the
sphere. In subsequent years, William Kiehl often wondered about
whatever became of the "little man" clinging to the railing. The whole episode
lasted about 10 minutes, so Kiehl recalled. The witnesses saw a deer on
the shore watching the UFO at both the beginning and the end of the
incident, running off when the "little men" looked "piercingly" at
it--though they did not seem to notice their human witnesses.
The incident was written up at some length by APRO directors Coral &
Jim Lorenzen in their _Flying Saucer Occupants_ (Signet Books, 1967), pp.
19-23, based on an APRO (Aerial Phenomena Research Organization)
investigator's interview with Kiehl. Jacques Vallee published a very short
summary of the sighting as "Case 40" in _Passport to Magonia_ (Chicago:
Henry Regnery, 1969), p. 188, probably condensed from the Lorenzens'
account. Vallee's brief account is reprinted verbatim on several Internet
websites accessed under the keywords <Kiehl+UFO>. Janet & Colin Bord,
_Unexplained Mysteries of the 20th Century_ (Chicago: Contemporary
Books, 1989), p. 318, in their geographical "Gazzeteer of Strange Events"
for Ontario Province, Canada, briefly listed it as <<GEORGIAN BAY. Eight
witnesses saw UFO on water; entities were manipulating hose in water.
On seeing witnesses they returned inside, all except one who was still
outside when craft took off; August 1914>>. The Lorenzens' 1967 ac!
count of Kiehl's sighting, however, stated that the "little men" did
not seem to notice the human witnesses--but did seem to stare
"piercingly" at a deer on the shore who then ran away. A deer coming to drink at
the water's edge, and seemingly watched intently by the UFO humanoids,
was also mentioned in the 1950 Steep Rock Lake and 1998 Lincoff
cases--which also both mentioned a green hose!
Kiehl, by then a 68-year-old pensioner living in San Francisco, wrote a
letter describing his sighting to APRO in Tucson, Arizona in 1966 after
reading some articles by Mrs. Lorenzen in FATE magazine. APRO sent an
investigator to interview Kiehl, and the Lorenzens' account is based on
the APRO investigator's report.
The witnesses' seeing a deer, apparently watching the craft and "little
men," on the lake shore at both the beginning and end of the sighting
was mentioned without comment by the Lorenzens. However, later UFO
abduction researchers like Budd Hopkins and David M. Jacobs have noted that
abductees have often reported seeing a deer, owl, raccoon, or other
big-eyed animal just before or after a missing time episode. Missing time
not being a recognized phenomenon yet in the 1960's, the Lorenzens also
did not question Kiehl's claim that the whole sighting had lasted about
10 minutes. The 1950 Steep Rock Lake incident, too, was not described
as involving any missing time--again something nobody them even thought
of looking into or asking about. However, the Lincoffs supposedly did
experience two hours of missing time during their 1998 North Conway
Lake, NH, encounter.

Rancher Dissatisfied with Chupacabra DNA Results

Remember the Elmendorf Beast? That mystery animal a rancher shot dead
on his property in South Bexar County? The man who found it is hoping to
get new DNA results.
Devin MacAnally says he has received the results of a DNA test, but he
won't reveal them. He says he’s not happy with the results.
Representatives from Texas Parks and Wildlife speculate that it’s a
coyote with mange. The hairless beast with sharp teeth sparked speculation
that the animal was a Chupacabra of South Texas folklore.
MacAnally says he plans to look for someone else to do a new DNA test.
He hopes to make those arrangements in the next couple of weeks. …

Juan Acuña will never forget that night at the edge of midnight when he
returned home seriously injured, bearing the weight of fear on his
shoulders. He remained submerged under the restless waters of the canal
for
15 minutes trying to think of the sordid image that his eyes had seen
while
two creatures regarded him with impunity...
The Chupacabras had attacked again. This was the first round. What is
it?
What is its shape? Where does it come from? These are perhaps the most
essential questions that come to our minds when we hear the fearsome
"Chupacabras" mentioned.
According to the Biblical Book of Isaiah, reference is made to a female
monster (Lilith) that has been translated in certain versions of the
Holy
Word as "Goatsucker". According to Rev. 34-11, "The pelican and the
urchin
took over her (Earth) and the owl (Goatsucker or Lilith) and the raven
shall dwell on her."
Cause for worry..or not?
Specialist and compiler of articles related to the subject, Liliana
Núñez,
aid that the first recorded case in Chile in the year 2000 did not
occur in
Calama - as collective memory suggests - but closer to Puerto Montt
that one
would think. Very few know this.
In the town of Antihue, some 50 km from Valdivia, a local planter
killed the
alleged "Chupacabras" with a shotgun blast.
If the collapse of the Twin Towers was a triumph for terrorism, the
skull of
the unknown animal became the standard of victory for the local
planter.
Monthls later, learning of the events appearing in the media, he
decided to
approach "El Diario El Austral" of Valdivia to tell his story. Days
later,
the rest of the country was stalked by a strange animal known as
"Chupacabras"
After four months of intense investigation, scientists with the
Universidad
Austral determined that "Chilean fauna is sufficiently well-known; the
discovery of new species in the year 2000 is unlikely." Specialist
analyzing
the case determined that they had been "unable to establish the animal
in
question" according to the newspaper article. Scientist Milton
Gallardo, who
analyzed the skull, said it had 6 incisors, 2 canines, 6 premolars and
6
molars in the upper jaw as well as in the lower jaw. A total of 40
teeth.
Truth or fiction? No cause for alarm...or is it?
[The creatures that attacked Juan Acuña] had two "yellow suns" under
their
forehead. One of them was 60 centimeters tall and the other stood over
one
meter tall. They were winged and covered in black fur. If the Hiroshima
bombing was torture, how did Acuña feel about his experience on July
11,
2004 near El Parral?
Marcelo Catrilef, a veterinarian from Puerto Montt, stated that there
is
still no clear explanation to the attacks recorded by the press since
the
Year 2000.
"It is very clear that the phenomenon is little known. We cannot think
that
it is an animal, but there are many unexplained things, such as the
behavior
of the attacked animals. Hens will not crow. We are witnessing strange
behavior on the part of the attacker as well as the attacked," he
emphasized.
Alberto Urquiza, a panelist with the "La Ley de la Selva" show, a
ufologist
and specialist in the subject, said that the attacks take place in a
stealthy manner. "The wound inflicted is a single one and is
characteristic
to all cases. It's about the size of a finger seen head-on, not very
large,
which can be two to four centimeters deep. There is no blood to be
found
around the attacked animal; their hairs and feathers are bloodless and
there
is no blood to be found on the floor," he said.
The unknown predator's victims range from alpacas, pigs and sheep to
dogs,
cats and most poultry.
According to the hypotheses presented on the Chupacabras' origin, there
are
four on which investigators have come to rest their conclusions. Among
them
is the one set forth by psychiatrist and paranormal researcher Mario
Dussuel, who stated that the first theory is that [the creature] is an
experiment belonging to one of the great powers, such as the U.S.. The
case
that occurred in the northern part of the country--at the Radomiro
Tomic
mine, where a creature was captured -- coincided with the presence of
U.S.
aircraft, intuiting that Americans would be directly responsible for
the
genetic experiments with the feared "Chupacabras". The profile [of this
hypothesis] was lowered after some time.
The second hypothesis is that the strange being has always existed on
Earth.
"It is an intelligent being that has known how to hide, which is why
its
remains have never been found," he added.
The third is based on the fact that our habitat contains an
intraterrestrial
environment complete with caves and underground shelters. "At a given
time
there was an intense burst of ultraviolet radiation that killed all of
the
dominant species at the time. Then came a civilization that hid under
the
earth to shelter itself," suggested the investigator.
The fourth hypothesis is related to UFOs, because flying objects have
been
seen coincidentally where the aforementioned creatures are reported.
According to this line of thought, these specimens would have been left
behind by ETs to study human reactions.
It is very hard to embrace any single one of these postures, believes
Mario
Dussuel, since their feasibility has yet to be established. This expert
believes that the creature has existed always.
Researcher Liliana Núñez dismisses altogether that the creature is
related
in any way to the UFO phenomenon. "The UFO phenomenon in Chile has
nothing
to do with animal slayings. It would suffice to compile the published
articles, which are in excess of 1500 worldwide. UFOs are not related
in the
least to these cases."

Himalayan glaciers 'melting fast'

The world's highest mountains hide vast glaciers
Melting glaciers in the Himalayas could lead to water shortages for
hundreds of millions of people, the conservation group WWF has warned.
In a report, the WWF says India, China and Nepal could experience
floods followed by droughts in coming decades.
The Himalayas contain the largest store of water outside the polar ice
caps, and feed seven great Asian rivers.
The group says immediate action against climate change could slow the
rate of melting, which is increasing annually.
"The rapid melting of Himalayan glaciers will first increase the volume
of water in rivers, causing widespread flooding," said Jennifer Morgan,
director of the WWF's Global Climate Change Programme.
"But in a few decades this situation will change and the water level in
rivers will decline, meaning massive eco and environmental problems for
people in western China, Nepal and northern India."

Canada’s Shrinking Ice Caps

TIME MACHINE FOR SALE ON EBAY

Hello, I am selling what I believe to be a time machine that was built
in the year 2239 by Dr. J. S. Strauss. I found the machine under my
house when I was doing remodeling to the bathroom. The machine was hidden
in a old rotten wood chest along with some other findings that I
believe to be related to the machine like old pictures, letters, ect. I dont
know to much about time machines or electronics, but from my
observations I believe that the machine might have caught on fire, at some time
or another from the looks of the inside, and is now in a non working
condition. It also looks like there might be some parts missing on the
inside, but I dont know. The time machine itself is not to heavy it weighs
20 pounds and it is 18" high by 23" wide and 11" depth.
From what I put together from all of the findings is that Dr. J. S.
Strauss who built the machine in 2239 went into the past to the early
1900's and the time machine broke down or caught on fire or something. From
the pictures and letters it looks like he was living in southern
california for a while, it looks like he also met some friends and a
girlfriend there.
I found the time machine in December of 2004 and I have tried to get it
to work but I could not, I even called my best friend who has worked on
cars, even he could not get it to work. I know this time machine might
be one of the most important discoveries of all time, but if I cant get
the time machine to work, then its not worth that much to me, so that
is why im selling it on ebay. Also I figured I could get a little extra
money so I could finish remodeling my bathroom….
