BACK FROM TEXAS

Well I made it back home to Florida from Texas and the meetings about
the upcoming book, “Secrets of Dellschau”.

I had a very enjoyable time visiting with Pete Navarro, my co-writer
and meeting our Editor/Publisher Bob Gunner in person. We are shooting
for a mid-December publishing date. I hope you enjoy the special extended
Dellschau Report in this weeks “Unraveling the Secrets”.

SITE UPDATE

I also want to take this time to thank our Web Genius, Andy Chung for
working out the problems he was having with the archives “Search”
feature.  After much work and headache he finally got it up and running
again!!!  Did I ever doubt him?  Of course not!

As you will notice the next time you visit our Website he has also
build a new category on the page, “Insider Reports.”  He’s only been able
to post Issue #1 so far, but as time permits he’ll soon have the
archives up to date.   After that we‘ll be adding them as soon as they are
issued.

It’s our plan to dovetail all of the information in these reports with
the information on our web page making each category, not only
available from their own archives, but by using our “Search” feature you can
find specific information from anywhere on the site using key words.  I

UFO HOVERS OVER US CITIES

HIgh Altitude UFO Hovers For Hours Over Minneapolis / St. Paul
(8-19-04)

Residents of the Twin Cities were confounded over the presence of a
huge, stationary, orb-like object that was seen for several hours over
their area (with a population of almost 3,000,000) on Thursday, August
19, 2004.
KSTP radio in St. Paul reportedly took many calls from listeners
inquiring about the object. A caller to the Coast-To-Coast radio
program
that evening reported that a local meteorologist said - after viewing
the object - that whatever it was, it was not a weather balloon. The
caller also told of watching the object change color with the setting
sun from white to orange, and then fade into the evening darkness,
moving only about 20 degrees in the sky over the course of several
hours.

HISTORICAL EVIDENCE OF UFOS

Ancient UFO reports

Don't make the mistake of thinking that the UFO phenomenon began
with Kenneth Arnold in 1947, or with the "foo fighters" of World War
II, or even with the airship sightings of 1897. Unidentified flying
objects have been with us much longer than that, they just weren't
called UFOs.

Many possible sightings are recorded in the Bible and other ancient
writings, and during the Middle Ages, many strange things seen in
the skies were recorded:

776 AD - As the Saxons were laying seige to Charlemagne's castle at
Sigiburg, flying shields appeared and rained down fire on the
attacking army

840 AD - Agobard, Archbishop of Lyon's, France, mentioned that the
people believed in a place in the sky called "Magonia", and that
people traveled through the skies in cloud ships. He wrote that he
prevented a crowd from stoning to death three men and a women who
supposedly came from one of these ships.

1034 AD - a book called "Liber Chronicarum" from 1493 records that
in 1034 a spherical object with fire shooting from both ends was
seen over Europe.

1200 AD - William of Newburgh wrote of a slivery, disc-shaped object
that appeared near an abbey in England.

1290 AD - The monks at Byland Abbey in Yorkshire, England saw a
similar disk.

1461 AD - An object like an iron rod with fire shooting from it was
seen over Arras, France.

These are just a few examples. There are many more of these
sightings listed in "Passport to Magonia" by Jacques Vallee and "The
Greatest Deception" by Patrick Cooke. Remember, during ancient times
and the Middle Ages, most people were illiterate, so the recorded
sightings may be only a miniscule part of the actual number of
sightings.

A Mystery Worthy of a "DaVinci Code" Type Investigation?

Strange objects in the sky have also been a recurring theme in
medieval art. What were the artists who put these objects in their
paintings trying to depict? Are they religious images or something
else?

What were flying "shields?" What were these objects that people were
seeing in the skies during a time when there were no aircraft in the
sky, and certainly no weather balloons?? Comets had been seen before
and were known as such. Meteorites would hardly be described as
these objects are described.

SEARCHING FOR ALIENS

Space isn't the only place to look for proof of extraterrestrial life,
writes Paul Davies.
The question of whether we are alone in the universe is one of the
biggest of the Big Questions of Existence. One way to settle the matter is
to find some cosmic company. A direct approach to this problem is to
scan the skies with radio telescopes in the hope of stumbling across a
message from an alien civilization.
It is a long shot of literally astronomical proportions, but that
hasn't deterred a dedicated band of radio astronomers from trying.
Known as SETI - the search for extraterrestrial intelligence - this
project has been running for 40 years. So far the silence has been
deafening. There could be all sorts of reasons for this, including the obvious
one that ET simply doesn't exist. But while the radio astronomers seek
to beef up their efforts, it seems worth asking whether other
approaches should be tried.
Put yourself in the situation of the aliens, out there somewhere in the
galaxy. They surmise that Earth looks promising for the emergence of
intelligent life one day, but they have no idea when. There would be
little point in beaming radio messages in this direction for eons in the
vague hope that one day radio technology would be developed here and
someone would decide to tune in.
A better plan would be to leave a message for us to find when we are
ready. The trouble with this set-and-forget strategy is the time factor.
Life takes billions of years to evolve intelligence. Even if ETs
figured there was animal life on Earth, they could be faced with a wait of
tens of millions of years. That is a long time for an artifact to
survive.
Putting the text inside a large metal object and plunking it on the
Earth's surface is expensive in transportation costs, and risky. Our
restless planet leaves nothing untouched for long. The artifact could easily
end up buried or drowned or eroded to scrap.
The ideal solution would be to encode the message inside a large number
of self-replicating, self-repairing microscopic machines programmed to
multiply and adapt to changing conditions.
Fortunately such machines already exist: they are called living cells.
The cells in our bodies, for example, contain genetic messages written
by Mother Nature billions of years ago.
DNA, the molecule that contains the script of life, encodes its data in
a four-letter alphabet. This would be an ideal medium for storing a
cosmic calling card. In many organisms, humans included, genes make up
only a tiny fraction of their DNA. Much of the rest seems to be biological
gobbledygook, often called "junk DNA". There is plenty of room there
for ET to etch a molecular message without damaging any vital genetic
functions.
How long would such a message survive? Mutations continually scramble
sequences of DNA, especially the junk part. Recently, however,
scientists in the United States have discovered whole chunks of human and mouse
junk DNA that seem to have remained virtually unchanged for tens of
millions of years. That would be a good place to store a message.
The beauty of this scheme is that ET wouldn't have to visit Earth to
implant the message. A lot of junk DNA consists of genomic fragments
inserted by viruses over the course of evolution. An alien civilization
could, for negligible cost, dispatch tiny packages across the galaxy,
loaded with customized viral DNA. The cargo would be designed to infect,
without harm, any DNA-based life it encountered.
How would we know if there was a message in our genomes? Presumably ET
would make it easy for us to spot. Some sort of in-your-face pattern
would be best, something that stood out from the random scatter of
genetic letters.
A good way to do this would be to use the letters to represent pixels
on a screen tracing out a shape like a circle - an idea mooted in a
different context by the late Carl Sagan in his novel Contact. That way,
the artificial nature of the pattern would still be apparent even if a
few pixels got scrambled.
The arresting pattern would serve to flag the message itself, which
would otherwise be overlooked as a meaningless jumble. The message would
then need to be decoded with the help of a computer. What would ET have
to say to us? Most likely, any message in the genome would be rather
basic, like people waving between mountaintops.
It might contain the co-ordinates and transmission times of a
conventional radio message, broadcast every century, perhaps. Or it could direct
us to a larger artifact located safely in the fringes of our solar
system, in which we would find the entire contents of an encyclopedia
galactica, including the rise and fall of ET's civilization, which may have
died out long before human beings even existed.
I have to admit that my proposal is at the extreme end of the spectrum
of speculation, but genomic SETI is probably no dafter than radio SETI,
which has the blessing of the US space agency, NASA, and the scientific
community. And I am certainly not advocating that we abandon radio SETI
just yet.
The co-founder of Microsoft, Paul Allen, recently gave $US35 million
($49 million) for an array of radio telescopes being constructed in
northern California and dedicated to expanding the search for alien signals.
Other scientists think ET would prefer to use lasers to beam messages
and have started a search using optical telescopes.
But the advantage of genomic SETI is that scientists are sequencing and
analyzing genomes like crazy anyway. For little extra cost they can
scan the burgeoning database for signs of alien tinkering. Given the
momentous nature of finding a message from ET, a bit of effort seems
worthwhile.
Radio SETI generates such huge amounts of data that scientists have
enlisted the public to help analyze it on their desktop PCs. So successful
has this SETI@home project become that molecular biologists have
emulated it with Genome@home.
It would be simple to merge these projects under the catchy slogan: The
truth is inside us.

The amazing creature was not reminiscent of any other sea animal

Norwegian scientists from the Bergen-based Institute of Marine Research
returned from a two-month expedition to study the underwater mountain
chain in the center of the Atlantic Ocean. Scientists reported the
discovery of an unknown creature, which was found living at the depth of two
kilometers.
Researchers say it was a crawling bright-colored animal, about 30
centimeters long. The creature had a forefoot and a tail. The amazing
creature was not reminiscent of any other sea animals. It was not possible to
retrieve the animal from the ocean floor, although scientists managed
to take pictures of it.

The unknown animal was definitely a sensation in the scientific world.
Researchers, however, say there were over 80,000 rare species found
during the international expedition, which united specialists from 16
countries. Scientists have identified about 300 kinds of fish, 50 species
of squid - no one has ever seen any of them before.
The above-mentioned expedition was a part of the ten-year Marine Life
Census program evaluated in one billion dollars. The Norwegian research
ship was outfitted accordingly: scientists had all kinds of equipment
at their disposal, including remote-controlled sea robots and a manned
sub to explore the underwater world.

The dark mound on the left is a pyramid eroded by eons of wind. This is

the Yakima Firing Range, between Ellensburg, WA and Yakima, WA. They

best and easily observed from the South lane rest stop (I-82). The
military
had gotten inside this one long ago and are, as usual, misusing.

There are literally hundreds of pyramids across the USA, Canada, and
our
Earth. Most are made via a sound-laser device set on a four-legged
tripod
set at certain angles. On two of the four angles, a small box about 4
to
5-1/2 inches wide and 8-1/2 inches long, and approximately 7-1/2 to 8
inches high would be slowly lowered downward on two of the angled legs.
As
this did so, it would emit a laser SOUND. This would carve a hill into
the
proper shape needed. Meanwhile, our people (Indians) would carry away
pieces
of rock and spread them some distance away, until all that remained
were
the pyramid shapes.

The pyramid shown in these pictures can be seen on the highway between
Spokane and Chewelah, WA. On the right, going towards Colville, WA,
just as
you pass and go down the hill where Ft. Spokane Park is.

Where the Giza pyramids are, there were no hills to carve. The stones
were
brought in and artificial pyramids were made.

All pyramids are built on semi-precious/precious stones/gold and silver
deposits, etc, that lie on important laylines worldwide.>

The Aztec-Mayan pyramids were built in an attempt to re-create what the
"gods" had done as well as to give honor TO the gods. They had the
memories
but not the full knowledge. Many of the Inner World (Number 5 Earth)
hold
similar pyramids of a cross between Mayan-Aztec and those here on our
surface. These "inner" pyramids are the center focal point of these
cities,
a number of which (cities) were destroyed in the war between the
Dracolian
Lizard Race and our Number 6 Surface Gods we call 'The Slope Heads'.

Easter
Island used to be the Slope Heads' main domain. These "gods", at
maturity,
were 22- to 24-feet tall. A 27-foot 'giant' would occasionally be seen.
These people were (and are) from another dimension.... Not of our
galaxies.

At Chewelah pyramid, approximately 1-1/4 mile from its base. This
pyramid is
surrounded by private property.

Woman Energy

Some pyramids are 'working' pyramids, sending off their energies to
'slave'
(or 'worker') pyramids. The working pyramids emit an actual energy
source of
extreme high frequency. This energy is then 'mirrored' to the
'workers'.
This energy creates wellness, well-being, peace, etc, around it. At
this
moment, our planet is in such bad shape that though now the energy is
once
again being sent, it is disrupting the 'Karma' that has been built up
over
several centuries. It is like spreading a scabbed wound open ... It
hurts,
but in the long run, it cleanses.

It takes two to realign the equipment that the main pyramids contain.
Only
women of a certain high-energy balance can be used on this. This is one
of
those women. Other energy balances (women) are used in other works,
such as
Earth healing vortex repairs.

The results:

Three of 16 clouds counted on the way home early the next morning.
Note:
The clouds pull in distant clouds like pulling cotton candy off its
main
source. Each cloud ends up looking similar to a large pressed
marshmallow,
and each cloud is directly above a mirror pyramid. This set of pictures

The Secrets of Dellschau

“Wonder Weaver … you will unriddle my writings …they are my stock of
open knowledge …” Charles A. A. Dellschau, Houston, Texas, 1910.

One hundred and eight years ago on November 17, 1896, a strange object
was seen in the night sky over Sacramento California.  This was the
beginning of what has to become known as “The Great Airship Mystery”. 
During the following two years tens of thousands of people reported, not
only observing these strange craft, but also even meeting and talking
with the aeronauts.  A few lucky souls even claimed to have been invited
aboard for a spin through the heavens.  While many mainstream
ufologists and “experts” scoff at the hundreds of newspaper reports of the time
and shout “Hoax!” the real truth of the matter is that too many people,
sometimes even whole townships saw these airships in the uncluttered
sky’s of the time for it to be a simple hoax.  For instance on November
22, 1896 one of these strange craft spent a half an hour in the sky over
Sacramento and was “viewed by thousands” including Deputy Sheriff
Walter Mallory and District Attorney Frank D. Ryan (1).

Then in December of 1897, after moving across the United States and
being reported in hundreds of mostly regional newspapers these strange
craft simply disappeared.  During the early 1900s there were several
“flaps” in isolated areas of the country, but once again they remained a
mystery. (2).  The number one question that has come out of the study of
these century old mysterious flying ships is … if what the thousands of
people who claim to have seen really existed, why didn’t someone come
forward and claim the glory and fortune that rightfully would have been
theirs for the asking?  Keep in mind this was years before the Wright
brothers struggled to get their flimsy craft off the ground.  The
108-year-old mystery remains.  Or does it?

In 1969 Fred Washington discovered 12 scrapbook size, obviously old,
books that had been discarded in a Houston Texas dump.  These handmade
books contained hundreds of full color drawings of strange looking flying
machines.

Two of the books ended up on display at Houston’s University of St.
Thomas under the heading “The Sky is the Limit”.  Commercial artist and
pioneer ufologist Pete Navarro saw a notice about the display in the
Houston Chronicle.  The story immediately caught his attention.  He decided
to have a look.  One look was all it took.  Charles A. A. Dellschau had
found his “Wonder Weaver.” …


Pete tracked down Mr. Washington and gained access to the mesmerizing
books.  With Washington’s help he started to piece together some of
their history.  The books were the labor of C. A. A. Dellschau, a reclusive
German immigrant who had spent the latter years of his life compiling
the mysterious drawings.  Through persistence, Pete was able to buy
eight of the Dellschau books.  He was also granted unlimited and
uninterrupted time to study the four books he didn’t own.  Unrealized at the time
Pete started what was to become a 27-year quest.  The quest for
Dellschau’s secrets.  As Pete studied the designs of Dellschau’s fabulous
flying machines he begin to realize that mixed in with the color-coded
to-scale drawings was a hidden story.    A story that was a jumble of bad
English, slang-filled German and several codes devised by the artist. 
With the enthusiastic help of his two brothers, Pete begin to work on
the cryptic messages. As the story came together the Navarro broth!
ers became more and more intrigued.  One of Dellschau’s cryptic
messages, still not completely de-coded to this day, continues to taunt Pete:

“You will --- Wonder Weaver --- You will unriddle these writings.  They
are my stock of open knowledge.  They --- will end like all others ---
with good intentions, but too weak-willed to assign -- put to work.“

According to Dellschau, there were a group of men, most of them recent
German immigrants who, in the middle 1800s, formed a secret club they
called The Sonora Aero Club.  The name for the club came from the area
in which these gentlemen lived which was around the Sonora-Columbia area
of Northern California which was smack dab in the middle of the
California Gold Rush at the time.

Pete at first began to suspect a hoax.  But as he began to examine the
Dellschau books even closer he wasn’t so sure.  Pete using his
commercial artist skills began to isolate certain portions of Dellschau’s
drawings, then render detailed drawings of individual components such as;
engines; steering devices; landing gear, etc.  In this way it was easier
to understand the machinery.   His findings are amazing!

In the mean time he and brother Rudy were making good headway in
deciphering the coded script.  Then Pete found the key to it all in one of
the books and everything fell into place.  The page with the key had
actually been one of the first things Pete had looked at but he hadn’t
realized the significance until much later.

Over a 27-year period Pete filled 19 journals with meticulous notes and
minutely detailed drawings copied directly from Dellschau’s works.  As
I stated earlier … Dellschau, in Pete Navarro, had found his “Wonder
Weaver”.

Because the 8 Dellschau books that Pete owned were beginning to
deteriorate and he had no way to preserve them he has found new homes for them
in Houston and San Antonio Texas art museums.  Now for the first time
Pete is ready to tell the complete story of his involvement with
Dellschau and his flying machines.

I have long believed that many of the UFOs seen in our sky are of this
Earth.  And I firmly believe that the Airships of the 1800s were the
forerunners of at least some of our modern UFOs.  Pete’s son, and my good
friend, Steve Navarro who wanted us to collaborate on a book about
Dellschau, brought Pete and I together.  I want to take this opportunity to

The Dellschau Project

In September of last year I went to Houston Texas and spent a week with
Pete Navarro.  Our main goal was to begin the long hard road of
compiling his 27 years of research on Dellschau and his airships into a
manageable book.

While in Houston Pete took me around to all the sites that figure in
the Dellschau story … the house where Charlie Dellschau did his work. 
St. Thomas University where Pete first saw a Dellschau book.  The site of
Mr. Washington’s place of business where Pete found the rest of the
books.  Unfortunately Mr. Washington has passed away and the building is
no longer standing.  And of course we went to the cemetery where
Dellschau is buried.

During that week I got to know Pete fairly well and I found him to be a
remarkable man.  Not only is he an exceptional artist, but his notes
and journals of a lifetime of exploring, not only the Dellschau mystery,
but many other incidents of UFO sightings, ghostly encounters and other
subjects having to do with the paranormal in and around Eastern Texas,
makes him a researcher of the highest caliber.  His videos of his
personal research into the mystery of the Marfa lights of West Texas were
impressive, very professionally done and extremely enjoyable.

I left Texas, not only with a new colleague and co-writer, but also a
new close friend.  I returned to Florida with reams and reams of
material that I must now edit down to book size and Pete continues to send me
more [see letter below].  Pete did his “homework” to such an extent
that it makes my job easy.  My main problem is what do I leave out?

Hi Dennis,

In looking through the old notebooks [Pete’s Field Journals … Dennis]
that contain miscellaneous notations that were sometimes written in a
hasty way in order to jot down thoughts or observations of the moment I
found one that was written in December of 1969 that was just about 8
month after my first discovery of the Dellschau scrapbooks.
   I noticed that in this notation I mentioned Wilson, the aeronaut who
supposedly landed in an airship in Beaumont and later in West Texas
during the period of Mystery Airship sightings in the year 1897.  It is
interesting to note that I had tried to find a connection between the
Aeros and the Mystery Airship sightings that early in my research and
study of the Dellschau scrapbooks.  I imagine this came about because I had
conducted some research into the Mystery Airship sightings with Lucius
Farish [pioneer ufologist and publisher of the long-running UFO
Clipping Service and it had been suggested that perhaps there was a connection
between the Dellschau story of a group that was in California
experimenting with navigable aircraft in the 1850s and the mystery airship
sightings of the 1890s.  My thinking on this possibility at that time was as
follows, which I wrote down hastily in one of my notebooks and reads: 

   “My thoughts on the Dellschau affair is this:  That Dellschau was a
German intellectual born about the year 1830.  That he was in touch
with contemporaries who were working on aerial navigation and the
development of anti-gravity devices about the year 1845, when he was about 15
years old.
   “That a man had succeeded in inventing or discovering a means of
eliminating gravity, but had died before his discovery could be made known
and had left the invention or formula locked in a bank vault.  His
nephew, whose name was Wilson, had eventually located the bank vault,
gained access and applied it to an airship he was designing.
  “That Dellschau was in touch with Wilson, since they both were
members of a secret society or fraternity and they exchanged ideas on the use
of the anti-gravity device.  In the 1850s Dellschau was living in
Sonora, California, where he helped Wilson with his experiments.  In 1892
Dellschau (now 62 years old) had come to Houston and met a lady, whom he
married….
  “In 1896 Wilson had completed his airship and began to make test
flights.  The following year (1897) the Mystery Airships began making their
appearance and stories about their sightings began to appear in
newspapers. …”

  As may be seen from the above I was not too far from the actual facts
although I still hadn’t thoroughly deciphered all his coded messages
nor had yet discovered that NYMZA was a secret organization. …

  As a matter of fact, I didn’t find out about the name “Wilson”
(spelled “Willson” by Dellschau) being in one of the scrapbooks until about a
month after I wrote my “Thoughts Above”.  It was on January 14, 1970
that I made that interesting find in Plate # 4338. [Dellschau called the
drawings “plates” and each was numbered … Dennis].

following letter.

Speaking of Dellschau
August 15, 2004

James,

First let me congratulate you on your 50th year.  In 50 more years I’m
sure you’ll have ALL the answers.  But the question is … will you share
them with us “newcomers?”

You really got my attention when I ran across the article, “Charles
Dellschau and the Sonora Aero Club” by Dennis Stacy in the July 20, 2004
issue of “Saucer Smear”. It perked my interest because it just happened
to be that the very next day I was leaving for Houston Texas for
meetings with P. G. Navarro, and Bob Gunner on that very subject … Dellschau
and his Aeros.

As you know, Mr. P. G. Navarro, or Pete as he likes to be called, is
the man who broke the Dellschau code. Today anything that is know about
Dellschau and his Aeros came from information furnished by Pete or his
research partner the late Jimmy Ward, or both, regardless of what others
may claim.

Seven years ago Pete asked me to help him condense his over 5000 pages
of documents, drawing and photos into a manageable report and then
collaborate on a book on the subject. After many years of work in a
partnership that has grown into a very warm friendship we finally completed
the project.  We scheduled our last meetings to finalize details on our
book about Dellschau and his the Sonora Aero Club for the week of August
.6-15, 2004.

Bob Gunner is Editor/Publisher of Cyber-Pulp/HoustonUSA who will be
publishing our book, “Secrets of Dellschau: The Sonora Aero Club and the
Airships of the 1800s.”  Bob is a pioneer and remains on the cutting
edge of using computer as a publishing tool.  Expected publishing date is
mid-December.

So, with these meetings just days away it was a delight to see Dennis
Stacy’s timely article regarding Dellschau and his Aeros. He may have
hit the nail right on the head when it comes to Dellschau’s obsession. He
probably was an Outsider Artist. As Mr. Stacy pointed our, all the
signs are there … loner etc.

Over the years there have been many different theories regarding
Dellschau and his detailed drawings --- Everything from his having been an
Alien, to “he was just a crazy old man with too much time on his hands.”
And, naturally after 7 years of studying Pete’s research, I have
started to develop my own ideas.

Of course there is also the possibility of the obvious. Dellschau may
simply have been obsessed with getting information he had in his
possession -- or even only in his imagination -- documented before he passed
on.

However, whether he received the information from his secret society
The Sonora Aero Club, or the even more secretive NYMZA or his friend
Peter Mennis … or even from his own mind  isn’t the mystery.  After
studying Dellschau’s drawings you realize that the most important questions to
be answered are did the machinery and the flying machines he diagramed
in his thousands of drawings actually work?  And, was the NB Gas he
claimed to be the source of power and “lift” actually an anti-gravity
fuel?

Unfortunately when it comes to being able to give a concrete “yes” or
“no” answer to anything regarding Dellschau and his claims we run into a
very big problem.

The first --and most important half --- of Dellschau’s story is lost.
There are still 2500 of his drawings out there somewhere. Drawings made
BEFORE the ones studied by Pete. These early parts of the story are the
ones that naturally would have covered just how NB gas and the
machinery worked. By the time of the creation of the 2500 Dellschau drawings
that Pete has studied, the background would all have been explained in
the earlier works.  Dellschau would have had no reason to repeat the
information in these later drawings.

Although, Pete had unlimited access to every Dellschau drawing that is
known to exist, he believes that the final answers we seek are hidden
in those early, lost drawings.

Our book, “The Secrets of Dellschau” was not written to “solve” the
Dellschau mystery. For the reason stated above, that can’t be done. Our
purpose was to pass Pete’s research and findings along to others who
might be interested, or even have missing pieces of the puzzle in their
possession and not even know it.  We also wanted to present these findings
in an enjoyable and easily to read format.  We think we’ve accomplished
our goal and are very proud of our book.

The approximately 300 page book is sort of an “over the shoulder look”
as Pete takes the reader through the process he used to break the code
and the steps leading up to, and finally, the telling of Dellschau’s
story. By using extensive field notes and over 250 scale drawings,
photos, halftones and maps we introduce the reader to the people, machinery
and equipment associated with The Sonora Aero Club and their flying
machines … Pete was a very successful graphic arts artist before he retired
and we used his unique talent of being able to make exact drawings of
minute detail to the maximum in presenting his research.  Most
importantly we present drawings and descriptions of the machinery … it was the
machinery that first attracted Pete to Dellschau’s flying machines. 
Also for the first time ever … we present the key to Dellschau’s code.
Hopefully someone can use the information we present and add answers to
the mystery.  . And who knows, if and when Dellschau’s missing draw!
ings are found someone might be able to use “Secrets of Dellschau” to
solve the complete mystery.

Today Dellschau’s notebooks have now been broken up into separate pages
and spread all over the word. One framed page out of Dellschau’s
notebooks sells for a hefty 15,000 to 25,000 dollars. Never again will anyone
be able to study the complete known Dellschau collection. We hope our
book in some small way will help fill that void. Such an amazing story
should not be lost.

So, James, Mr. Stacy may be right. Dellschau may have been, and
probably was, an Outsider Artist. But I think that after he’s read “The
Secrets of Dellschau,” and studied the illustrations he’d agree with us.
There’s more to the Dellschau drawings than what first appears.

scientist, and artist, was born on June 4, 1830, in Germany. Dellschau

THE GREAT AIRSHIP MYSTERY

The Amazing Airship of 1896

It appeared first in Sacramento, California, on the night of November
17, 1896 — a strange light in the rainy night sky. On that first night
it was seen by dozens of people. Most saw only a light. Others made out
a dark cigar shape behind the light. The most detailed description came
from a streetcar motorman named Lowery, who said he saw a flying
machine propelled by two men working bicycle pedals.
When the story hit the papers the next day, it caused a storm of
controversy. The Sacramento Bee and the San Francisco Call paid lavish
attention to the affair, and sent reporters to interview witnesses. By
contrast, the San Francisco Chronicle pooh-poohed the whole notion. After a
few days, the story died down.
But on November 22, the “mystery airship” came back. It passed over
Sacramento and appeared over Oakland, San Francisco and San Jose as well.
During the next few days the airship was sighted all over California.
The peak night was November 25, when it appeared in eleven places around
the state, including Auburn, Chico, Fresno, Hayward, Napa, Oakland,
Pasadena, Petaluma, Sacramento, San Lorenzo and Visalia.
From the beginning, the phenomenon was referred to as the “airship.” …
