Railfanning on Sandpatch
This section of the webpage is going to be dedicated to virtual "railfan" trips to Sandpatch. With scenery in various stages of completion, some of the shots will be, well, a little strange, but it'll still be fun for me, so hopefully you'll enjoy the video too. The video clips are in the Quicktime format.
I am choosing to set this up as sets of shorter videos rather than one long video to facilitate downloads. If I have set this up correctly, just click on the highlighted text below to download a video. Now these are not very high quality and that is for two reasons. First, the lower res should make downloading and viewing faster and won't eat up as much bandwidth or disk space. The second is due to the less than perfect lighting. Plenty of light for operations, maybe not so much for digital video! I'll work on that! Also, if you want to see the higher res version, just drop me an e-mail and I'll send it to you!
Each set of videos will focus on one train, or location. If there is a section of the layout you would like to "railfan," drop me an e-mail and I'll see about setting up an "excursion!" You can send me e-mail at fourlakes_99@yahoo.com or follow this link.
After viewing a video, use the "back" button of your browser to return to this page.
Coal Drag- This is not a full train-chase but rather a video of a long coal train I caught in Rockwood. Only problem is the lighting isn't very good this day!.
Coal Drag This is a long westbound coal drag. The train as a C44-9W, an SD80MAC and an SD60MAC on the point.
MPEG of Coal Drag Same video as above, but in a higher resolution and with sound. This is a big file at 3.3mb and may not be available here forever. But I have the space for now, so here it is!
Q137- A Trailer Jet heading from Baltimore to Chicago.
Video 1 After receiving a crew change, Q137 departs Cumberland bound for Connellsville.
Video 2 Heading up the east slope of Sandpatch, Q137 heads through the mountain town of Glencoe.
Video 3 Q137 rolls pasts Sandpatch Tower. This is a pretty good shot for the first batch!
Video 4 Here we see Q137 exit the west portal of Sandpatch tunnell and pass the Salisburry Branch Line. This is the best shot of the bunch.
Video 5 Descending the west slope of Sandpatch, Q137 rolls by Rockwood and onto the short section of singletrack. This would have been an okay shot except for it's so dark!
Video 6 With track work being done on the high line, here we see Q137 descending off the low line past what would be Confluence.
Video 7 Last shot for Q137 as it rolls into Connellsville.
