Projects

4-H Lympics (held in the Outdoor Show Arena)

-A team of 8-15 4-H Team Members compete in divisions based on age

Antique Farm Equipment Restoration

-An antique piece of farm equipment (manufactured before 1965) restored to like-new condition, accompanied by a book of detailed steps explaining the restoration process.

Aerospace

-A model rocket is built (may be from a kit or scratch) and displayed in flyable condition, accompanied by printed directions for how it was built.

Beef Female (held in the Beef/Dairy barn)

-Female Beef cows will be wieghed and slaughtered for judging.

Beef Steers (held in the Beef/Dairy barn)

-Steers will be judged for conformation

Beekeeping

-Honey is brought in and judged

Bicycle Safety Rodeo (held in the Farm Bureau Parking Lot)

-Placing for classes is determined by scores on riding events, bicycle inspection and a written test.

Cats (held in the 4-H Activity Center)

-Cats are brought in and showed for conformation

Child Care

-The creation of either toys or other entertainment for a child of a specific age and/or the display of proper safety techniques.

Citizenship

-Club Project only, Club must create and exhibit a display that shows the steps taken to complete the project that has been selected for that year.

Clothing

-A Pillow, Tote Bag or one of many types of Garments may be made and brought in for inspection and discussion with a judge. Club Booths

-A booth is created that displays the club and it's achievements. Communications

- Two original stories written by the member that have been published in a printed newspaper, journal etc.

Computers

-Any number of computer related activities, centering around programming.

Conservation and Wildlife

-Posters created to demonstrate knowledge of conservation of natural resources and/or specific types of wildlife.

Crops

-Corn, Soybeans and Hay can be brought in either living with the root systems still intact, or processed, in jars and bales.

Dairy Cattle (held in the Beef/Dairy barn)

-Cattle are brought in and shown for conformation.

Dog Agility (held on the Main Street near the Parking lot)

-Dogs are brought in to run an agility course set up on the fair grounds.

Dogs (held in the cloverleaf auditorium)

-Dogs can compete in conformation and obedience classes.

Do Your Own Thing

-The "other" catagory, entries must not fit into any other catagory.

Electricity

-Projects should be accompanied by a written documentation of parts and construction.

Entymology

-Insects are collected and displayed by pinning and labeling.

Flower Arranging

-Dry, fresh or silk flowers may be used in any arrangement for any season.

Flower Gardening

-3 different species or 3 varieties of species are to be brought in.

Foods

-Prepare either a zoo snack, muffins, rice krispies, or oatmeal cookies for tasting and exhibiting. Also, cake decorating, yeast breads, pastries, candy making, sports nutrition, food heritage, international foods, fruits and vegetables, microwave foods, outdoor meals,and preservation of foods

Food Demonstrations

-Any 4-Her or 2 4-hers may demonstrate making their displayed food. (must have entry in the "foods" project)

Forestry

-A map of Illinois forests may be entered, or a labeled display of leaves or wood samples.

4-H Royalty Contest (Cloverleaf Auditorium)

-4-Hers compete for the title of King and Queen of the Fair.

Garden and Small Fruit

-3 different vegetables or fruits are entered and judged for quality and appearance.

Gardening Indoors

-Exhibit plants grown from a cutting or purchased in the year prior to the fair.

Garden Tractor Safety and Operation (held in the Parking Lot)

-Exhibitors are required to operate one piece of machinary and complete a test on safety and maitenance on that piece of equipment.

Geology

-Different species of rocks must be labeled and sorted by type.

Goats (held in the Goat/Sheep barn)

-Goats are brought in and judged for conformation.

Health

-Exhibitors are required to make books discussing and displaying information regarding health.

Herb Gardening

-One or more herbs are to be brought in for judging.

Home/Farm Improvement

-A diagram of trees and shrubs for your yard and homestead are to be included.

Horses and Ponies (held in the Horse arena)

-Horses, Ponies, Mules or Donkies may be exhibited.

Intercultural- Passport to the World

-Exhibitors are to research a country and create a display of the culture of that country, along with a poster to explain it.

Intergenerational

-A display is to be created relating to one of the activities completed. Interior Design

-A poster created by the exhibitor is to show why the item created will improve the design of the room.

Leadership

-Prepare a display to demostrate two different activities in which two different leadership skills where used.

Llamas (held in the goat/sheep arena)

-Llamas are to be brought in and judged for conformation.

Market Barrows (held in the Swine Barn)

-Barrows will be brought in and judged for conformation.

Market Lambs/Premiere Lambs (held in the Goat/Sheep Arena)

-Lambs/sheep (not rams) are to be brought in and judged for conformation.

Photography

-Posters are to be made displaying pictures taking to specifications.

Plant and Soil Science

-Project is to be a poster or display made to project book specifications unless stated otherwise.

Poultry (held in the Poultry/Rabbit Barn)

-Poultry is to be brought in and judged for conformation.

Public Presentation (held in the Cloverleaf Auditorium)

-4-Hers are to prepare a speech beforehand and present it then to the public, being judged on their presentation.

Rabbits (held in the Poultry/Rabbit Barn)

-Rabbits are to be brought in and judged for conformation

Read-A-Book

-Exhibitors are to read a book and then write a small summary of it and design an original cover.

Sheep (held in the Sheep/Goat Barn)

-Sheep are to be brought in and judged for conformation

Showmanship Classic (held in the Cattle Arena)

-Cattle are to be brought in and judged for conformation

Small Engine

-Engine may be displayed as a labeled picture on a poster, maitenance may be displayed or it's operation.

Small Pets/My Pet Rabbit

-Small pets may be brought in, along with a poster demonstrating their health or care.

Storytelling

-Exhibitors are to write their own story, or repeat one they've heard previously to a live audience.

Swine (held in the Swine Barn)

-Swine are to be brought in and judged for conformation

Theater Arts

-A variety of activities related to theater, acting and storytelling.

Tractor Operator's Contest (held in the Parking Lot)

-Exhibitors must back a 4-wheeled trailer into designated spaces, driving a tractor with implement attached through designated stakes, all drivers must participate in safety exercise prior to the contest.

Veterinary and Animal Science

-Animal Health projects

Visual Arts

-Exhibitors are to use one of any mediums to create pictures and sculptures.

Welding

-Any welded item is accepted (with permission from the superintedent due to size and wieght requirements) and judged.

Woodworking

-And type of created woodcraft made to the specifications will be accepted and judged.
