Lew's Favorite Equipment

Every drummer deserves to be properly equipped. In the beginning stages of drumming to be properly equipped all you need if a couple of buckets left over from Larry Davidson’s last crabbing trip and a couple of chicken legs that you can also get from Larry Davidson. As things progress you may decide that it is time to buy a "real" drum set. An any case buy something cheap so you can get the feel for things. I suggest a CB drum kit that you can get at any local home town music store. Just throw a pillow or blanket in the bass drum and for the love of god muffle the toms some how because the ring of the cheap ass heads will shatter your ear drums. But if you get everything muffled properly the drum set will sound ok. As you get better you may want better stuff. But whatever.

Hardware is very important. Ask Larry Davidson, he’ll tell ya, "Heck my three sons wouldn’t be on earth today if it weren’t for hardware." [the truth is Davidson has two sons and a daughter but I didn’t dare cross him as I might have startled him and caused him to run off] But in all seriousness, if you have gotten the talent part of drumming down you have got to get good hardware for your drum set. Tama makes the best stuff, and always remember to go double braced. Unfortunatly, unless you have a rack system, it never fails that cymbal stands will fall over. Every show I’ve played in has had several casualties due to stands flipping over and that is b./c of the inadequacies of my hardware.

I have a suggestion here folks. John Deere. That’s right. We should all demand that Mr. John Deere start making drum stuff. Heck, his tractors can outlast a Larry Davidson shellacking and if they can handle that they can surly handle even the mightiest blow from drum God Neil Peart. So, Mr. Deere, if you’re listening please start making cymbal stands. Not only would they be strong and reliable the green and yellow would be a handsome color combo to go with and drum finish imaginable.
