When Was the Last Time You Entertained Millions of People, Cunt?

I am so tired of people complaining about the wages of professional athletes.  It would be fine if they took the time out of their daily lives to criticize the earnings of every aspect of society, but no…they choose to take on the people they are there to see.  A combination of ignorance and envy explodes to produce proof that we don’t really think about what or who we are bashing.

Let’s think for a moment here.  Adam Sandler urinates on the side of a building and peddles to a small child.  He does the same thing he has done for the last decade and makes a cool $20 million.  There certainly are people out there who have a problem with this, but will he ever get as much flack as Alex Rodriguez?  I mean, let’s look at this more fairly.  A-Rod is one of the most prolific and talented baseball players alive.  He plays about 160 games a year and would be the MVP if people didn’t think the award was given out for someone who plays on a winning team.

It is understandable to think that players may be making a bit much.  They play a game for a living.  This infuriates the construction workers who couldn’t lift quite as much weight as their classmates that could squat a small truck.  Intellectuals who may have seen the sport a few time dismiss games as worthless activities suited for people who are not amused by the almighty activity of sitting around, smoking, and bullshitting about God and politics.

Let’s think about this in the sense of our current society.  We live in a capitalistic society.  As a nation, we show our power by having the time to relax and enjoy watching a highly entertaining game.  People come to see the Michael Jordans, the Jerry Rice’s, The Mario Lemieux’s and so on.  The reason teams make money is by promoting athletes.

For a minute, why don’t we look at who these players are working for?  They are working for deep-pocketed owners.  These guys can afford to spend $200 million dollars or more on a group of athletes and all the lucrative opportunities that come with it.  Hey, hippies, George Bush owned a team!!! So now you can hate the owners, ok?

My point is, many of the athletes make more for their teams than they are getting paid for.  You can’t hate Juwan Howard for getting paid a ridiculous sum.  In sports just like in any other business, certain competitors make really dumb mistakes and there’s highs and lows.

Athletics are of too much prominence in our society, but why not?  This country is powerful enough to enjoy itself every now and then.  If we were faced with enough a threat, we would know when to cancel the Bingo game.  Sports are a diversion from the horridly pointless existences that are our lives.

So, rather than pointing your finger at somebody with twice the vertical leap of yourself, how about you just admit that you should get a better job or shut your fucking mouth?
