chapter 5: Fighting for a way in

Legolas had exceptional hearing, and could here Eldiriel tell the Fellowship about things he'd rather nt have them know. The night wore on. Legolas had told Merry and Pipin that he'd stay up for their watch.

'You need your sleep.' Legolas said.

'What about you?' Pipin asked.

'Elves don't need to sleep as often as hobbits do, nor do they need to eat as much.' Legolas laughed. 'Go back to bed.'

'Since you made us!' Merry said quietly, he lugged Pipin away. Legolas shortly after heard the light snores of Merry and Pipin.

Nothing was happening, nothing was near them, but Legolas could feel the presences of evil. Getting out his bow and an arrow, Legolas stood poised ready to shot anything that wasn't good. Suddenly there was a loud growl.

'Ngaur!' Legolas shouted. As planned a pack of ngaur attacked the Fellowship. Legolas and Eldiriel both jumped in the trees shooting the ngaur from above.

'Stay near Gandalf!' Aragorn yelled to the half a sleep hobbits.

The fight seemed to last forever, soon Legolas ran out of arrows. Putting down his bow he quickly unshethed his twin small blades. He jumped down to the ground, swinging his bladdes around killing all ngaur insite. Merry and Pipin desided that standing behind Gandalf wasn't fun, so they jumped out with their swords and started fighting. Eldiriel still had more arrows and was still in the tree, shooting from above. Aragorn and Boromir had their swords out and were slaughtering ngaurs left and right. Gandalf used his sword to keep the ngaur away from their camp. Frodo and Sam joined Merry and Pipin. Soon, the ngaurs were gone, either fled or were dead.

'What are ngaurs?' Frodo asked breathlessly.

'Werewolves.' Eldiriel said quietly.

'Back to sleep. Eldiriel and Boromir stand watch.' Gandalf ordered. Ngaur didn't bother to come back or try to attack again that night.

'How long to Moria?' Pipin asked.

'Pipin, don't start.' Boromir said sternly.

'But I want to get to Moria. What Gimli says of it, I really really want to see it.' Pipin said.

'Just throw stones at Gimli.' Boromir suggested.

'Merry, we haven't tried that one in a long time.' Pipin said. Merry and Pipin both gathered rocks and were occupied for a time.

The fellowship walked along a body of water, when Gandalf stopped.

'Why are we stopping?' Boromir asked.

'Are we going to eat?' Pipin asked.

'We have to open the door to get into Moria, Boromir. No Pipin.' Gandalf said calmly.

'I don't see a door.' Boromir said.

'That's why we have to wait till it appears in the moonlight.' Gandalf said.

'Now, Master Elves, you will see some hospitality!' Gimli boasted.

'Dwarf, if you don't mind. I'm trying to get over that fact!' Eldiriel said angrily.

'Eldiriel, stop.' Legolas warned.

'Why! Do you think that I, Gimli a dwarf, couldn't take on an elf?' Gimli puffed at Legolas.

'I never said that, Master Dwarf. I was just warning my younger cousin on what he says.' Legolas stated as he looked at Eldiriel.

'Legolas, you never let me do anything! It was either to dangerous or I wasn't experenced enough or I was too young! I'm sick of it! I can take on this dwarf if I want!' Eldiriel cried.

'Eldiriel, you are still young! You've been warned on your behavior before. Gimli hasn't done anything but talk about Moria. If you fight with Gimli and let the differences between dwarfs and elves get in the way of this journey, we might fail.' Legolas said.

'We've gotton this far haven't we?' Eldiriel asked.

'We haven't gotton into the dangerous parts of this journey, Eldiriel.' Legolas said still searching for the door.

'You know everything about this journey don't you!' Eldiriel argued.

'No, but I've traveled in the South before. I know what lies there. Please let us put aside our differences.' Legolas said.

'The door is never going to appear!' Eldiriel exclaimed after 10 minutes of silence. 'Stupid dwarfs!' 'Dwarfs aren't stupid! Elves used this door!' Gimli stated

.'So you are blaming elves?' Eldiriel yelled. 'If I wouldn't know any better I'd say that what lies in Moria has killed all the dwarfs.'

With that Gimli's anger brusted out. He lunged at Eldiriel and knocked into the water.

'Eldiriel! Gimli! Stop!' Legolas cried out. 'Gandalf! Aragorn Help me!'

'I hate you dwarf! You are going to regret ever meeting me!' Eldiriel yelled as he punched Gimli.

'You punch like a girl! But than all elves are!' Gimli screamed as he kicked Eldiriel.

'Eldiriel! Gimli! Stop! You don't want to distrube the water!' Aragorn yelled.

'Yelling at them won't help.' Frodo said sadly as he watched Gimli fall over from Eldiriel's kick. He liked Gimli, he didn't see why Eldiriel had to be so stupid.

'You are right Frodo.' Legolas said beside them. 'I'm going in.'

'Legolas no!' Gandalf cried, but it was too late. Legolas had leaped off the bank and into the water. He grabbed Eldiriel's blonde hair and pulled him away from Gimli. Merry and Pipin desided to help Legolas by grabbing Gimli and taking him a shore.

'Do you know how stupid that was?' Aragorn snapped at Eldiriel and Gimli.

'He started it!' Eldiriel cried as Aragorn cleaned a cut on his face.

'Do you know how childish that sounds?' Legolas asked. Eldiriel glared at Legolas.

'You and I are blood, Legolas! I thought you would defend me when I needed help. No you take a dwarfs side!' Eldiriel screamed like a child.

'Eldiriel, you don't understand what you could have done. There is a Watcher of the door we are trying to find. He can kill any of us know thanks to this little fight between elves and dwarfs.' Aragorn said angrily.

Gandalf said a few words in elvish. There was a faint glow of writing on the wall and soon the company saw the door.

'There are the emblems of Durin!' Gimli gasped.

'The trees of the high elves!' Legolas stated proudly.

'There is also the star of the house of Feanor.' Gandalf said pointing at the stars on the door.

'What does it say and how does it open?' Merry asked.

'The door says 'THE DOORS OF DURIN, LORD OF MORIA. SPEAK FRIEND AND ENTER'. As to opening the door. I have to say the password.' Gandalf said.

'You do know the password, right?' Boromir asked.

'No.' Gandalf replied.\par Chaos exploded from that simple word. Eldiriel and Gimli began a vibal war between the two of them, with Legolas near by to make sure nothing happened. Merry, Pipin and Sam were all trying to guess what the password was and Boromir was regreting ever coming down here. Aragorn and Frodo sood silently. After Gandalf calmed Boromir down, yelled at the young elf and dwarf, and told the hobbits to stop helping him, that Frodo relalized something.

'Gandalf, I think it's a riddle.' Frodo said. 'What is the elvish word for friend?'

'Mellon.' Gandalf said. Once the word came out of his mouth the door opened.

'That was brillent Frodo!' Sam exclaimed.

As they walked in, Gimli ran forward.

'Welcome to Mori--' but he stopped. 'What is this? NO!' Gimli started yelling.

'Goblins.' Legolas said as he pulled an arrow out of a dead dwarf. Frodo felt something around his foot but as he looked down, the thing pulled and Frodo went flying out the door.

'Frodo!' Sam yelled and ran towards him as did Merry and Pipin.

'The Watcher has found us!' Aragorn yelled.

'Quick! Legolas, Aragorn your bows! Boromir your sword.' Gandalf ordered as they went to save Frodo.

The creature wouldn't stop fighting. One of it's tentacles would be chopped off and it would seem to grow another one! After many arrows hitting it, Legolas hit it in it's eye and let go of Frodo. Aragorn caught him and every one ran into Moria. The Watcher followed when it realized it's mistake, but the Fellowship was in the cave. The creature tried to get in but broke the door and blocked the enterence.

'We have no choose now but to travel through Moria.' Gandalf said. 'Follow me.' Gandalf used his staff to create light for the rest to follow him.
