Chapter 6: I told you so
**taken from Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship; the Bridge of Khazad-dun, there are parts taken from the movie also**'It is a 3 day trip through Moria. Let's get moving.' Gandalf said and they followed Gandalf as they walked up the steep stair case.
It was hard for the hobbits who didn't have longer legs so they basicly had to climb them. Gimli and the elves walked up the stairs easily. Boromir, Aragorn and Gandalf had some trouble with the steepness of the stairs. They traveled almost in complete darkness for 2 days, stopping once for the night and something to eat. On the 3rd day, they came across 3 passages. Gandalf stopped.
'I don't remember this place.' Gandalf muttered to himself. The fellowship being tired, sat down as Gandalf did on some rocks or by the passages' openings.
'Merry, are we lost?' Pipin asked.
'No we aren't lost, Pipin.' Merry said.
'Than why doesn't Gandalf know the way?' Pipin asked.
'I don't know Pip. But I would guess that we should rest because there still is a long way to go.' Merry said.
'Merry, there are alot of rocks around here.' Pipin said happily.
'Yes there are Pipin.' Merry said.
'What do we like to do with rocks?' Pipin asked.
'Throw them at Boromir, Eldiriel and Gimli.' Merry answered getting annoyed.
'Why do we throw rocks at them only?' Pipin asked.
'Because we get a great reaction out of them....Pipin are you thinking what I'm thinking?' Merry asked.'
I hope soo.' Pipin said as he grabbed a rock and threw it at Boromir.
'Great minds think alike!' Merry said
Boromir and Aragorn were talking about the hobbits.'
Aragorn, I don't think that they will make it to Mordor! Look at them! They are tired and weak.' Boromir said in a quiet voice.
'Boromir, I've had the same thought but Gandalf thought that they could do it and help out in their own way. They will make it.' Aragorn said. 'They need rest. I only wish that we could rest, but our journey is important and we can't delay.'
'Aragorn, just getting to Mordor might kill them! We don't know how they will fight against Orcs or even the enemy! What happens than? We can't fight them the orcs and the enemy and protect them. They shouldn't have come, Frodo shouldn't have that burden to bare! No one should!'
'I agree Boromir but still, we can't do anything about it. We have to press forward and save Middle Earth.'
Just than the rock Pipin through hit Boromir in the head. Followed by laughes.
'Besides, Boromir, sounds like they are enjoying themselves when you are around.' Aragorn laughed as Boromir got hit again.
Frodo, Sam, and Gimli were sitting on a rock near the stair case.
'Why can't those elves come down off that ledge?' Gimli said throwing a rock in the air.
'If Eldiriel was down here. You or he would say something to get the other riled up and than we would have another episode of the Watcher.' Sam said plainly. 'I hope Gandalf finds the way out soon. I can't wait to get out of here...no offense Gimli, but it gives me the creeps.'
'None taken my friend, I understand.' Gimli said. 'My cousin will give us a warm welcome!'
'Gimli why does Eldiriel and Legolas hate you and you hate them?' Frodo asked.
'Long story, but to make it short, we have differences on how to live and we fought over it. The elves and their stupid give and take theory!' Gimli muttered. 'Things were put on Middle Earth for a purpose....TO BE USED!' Gimli boomed.
'Both have strong points from the short version.' Sam said.
'Either way, Elves they will never respect any other race except themselves!' Gimli said.
'You can't say that Gimli!' Frodo said. 'Legolas has stood up for you, not for Eldiriel.'
'Yes, you could say that, but he's still an elf.' Gimli said glaring up at the elves
.Eldiriel and Legolas were sitting in silence....a tense silence.
'Why won't you say anything!' Eldiriel asked.
'Because I'm content with my thoughts.' Legolas said sighing sadly.
'What's that matter? You get a hair out of place?' Eldiriel shot.
'No. I was thinking about Mirkwood.' Legolas said as he stared off into the cave.
'You miss your family, don't you?' Eldiriel asked.
'Very much. ' Legolas said. 'But the thought of returning to them gives me hope and the courage to do what must be done. Even if that is sacrifice my life for the sake of their well being and of the others in Middle Earth.'
'You were never so wise when I was in Mirkwood.' Eldiriel said. 'I missed it there.'
'I missed you too.' Legolas said
'I never said I missed you! I said I missed Mirkwood.' Eldiriel said sternly.
'I was saying that I missed you. Even if you did try to kill Lorlome and I.' Legolas said.
'That arrow wasn't ment for you.' Eldiriel said sadly.
'It was for Lorlome, I know. I don't know how you could do that, Eldiriel. I don't know if I can trust you ever again.' Legolas said looking at his cousin sadly.
'You never trusted me.' Eldiriel said bitterly.
'Yes, I did. Remember that time I let you switch places with me for a royal supper because you wanted to. I trusted you enought to act like me and be royal in my spot. Which you did, and made a grand speech which I didn't tell you about because I trusted you to make one up. Of course you were always better at speeches than I was so my father knew it was you and not me after the speech. Than made me make one.' Legolas laughed at the memory.
'Ah ha!' Gandalf's voice suddenly sounded. 'It's this way!'
'Gandalf has remembered!' Merry said.
'No, follow your nose, Merry Brandybuck. It doesn't smell as bad down here.' Gandalf said as he started to walk.
'Come Eldiriel, Gandalf has found the way.' Legolas lightly. 'Let's get out of this cave.' With that Legolas jumped down off the ledge and on to the enterance to the path that Gandalf took. Eldiriel jumped down after Legolas and took his place at the back of the Fellowship.'
Better have Gandalf infront and me in back.' Eldiriel thought.
After walking an hour, they came to a open hall with many pillars holding up the ceiling. As they walked throught it they saw a door leading into a room. Gandalf, followed closely by Gimli, saw that there was a tomb in the room. Gandalf leaned over the tomb and read aloud.
'Balin, Son of Fundin. Lord of Moria.' Gandalf said sadly.
'This can't be! My poor cousin.' Gimli said as he knelt down and cried softly.
'Aragorn, we can't stat here, for long. There's evil here.' Legolas said looking around.
'Eldiriel has warned me many times since we entered the hall.' Aragorn whispered to Legolas. Legolas nodded.
Gandalf bent over and picked up a book that was riped, sliced, but for the most part, still intact.
'Here is a book. It seems the records of Balins people.' Gandalf said.
'We must be in the Chamber of Records.' said Gimli.
'Things are so burnt and blured that it is hard to read. Here is some **Balin has set up set seat in the Chamber of Mazarbul**...more things are blurred and burnt...I can't read it....here's something...**Balin is now the Lord of Moria.** Now the hand writing changes to a more fairer script. Here is some more. Sorrow is the only word I can make out of this sentence but it ends in ester. It must mean Yester, than followed by **day being the 10th of november Balin, Lord of Moria fell in Dimrill Dale. He went alone to look in the Mirror mere. An orc shot him from behind a stone. We slew him....and many more...**' Gandalf finished closing the book. Pipin standing near an old well in the corner, picked a spider. The head fell off when Pipin missed the spider and hit the head.
bang, smack, boom, splat!.......boom!
'PIPIN!' Merry yelled.
'It was an accendent!' Pipin said shriking backwards.
'Stupid Hobbit! do you know what you could have awakened with that mistake??' Eldiriel snapped.
'I said I didn't mean too!' Pipin said throwing his arms out as a sign of helplessness. It would have worked if he didn't hit the rest of the dwarf body and pushed it into the well.
'There now Pipin. You've gone and done it!' Merry said scolding the youngest hobbit.
boom..boom...boomboomboom....boom
'What was that?' Gandalf asked after glaring at Pipin. Just than an arrow came throught the door and almost hit Gimli.
Eldiriel and Legolas both looked out and saw orcs.
'Orcs!' They yelled.
'Block the doors!' Aragorn ordered.
'No leave the east door slightly open, for an escape.' Gandalf ordered.
Boromir closed the door and used spears and wood that Legolas and Aragorn were throwing at him. Boromir backed away once he got to door blocked as best as he could and stood next to Aragorn, who had Andruil ready. Boromir got ready his sword. Eldiriel and Legolas were standing waiting arrows waiting to be fired. The orcs used their bodies and objects outside the doors to get open the door they had blocked open. Once they had an small opening made, arrows flew in. Legolas and Eldiriel answered back threw the small hole hitting 3 or 4 orcs before the door gave way. Orcs came pouring in from every direction. Aragorn and Boromir attacked the on coming orcs while Legolas and Eldiriel stand where they were and shot their arrows till they didn't have any left. The hobbits couldn't stay behind Gandalf, so they drew their swords and fought like the rest of the Fellowship. Merry and Pipin tried fighting but Eldiriel seeing that they couldn't hold out long ran to them. As he killed the orc that was threatening them, he grabbed Merry and Pipin and set them on a ledge.
'Stay there!' Eldiriel ordered. They both nodded. Merry and Pipin watched Aragorn lift Sam and Frodo onto the ledge too.
'Hello, how are you fairing?' Pipin asked them.
'Sam killed an orc!' Frodo exclaimed.
'That's wonderful!' Pipin excliamed back.
'Umm, guys, there's a troll!' Merry yelled.
The hobbits yelled to the elves, dwarf and men fight that the troll had entered the room.
'They have a cave troll?' Boromir gasped.
The orcs had run away whent they saw the troll, but they still had to kill the troll. Eldiriel still had some arrows. He gave half of them to Legolas and they tried to shot it. It didn't work. The troll saw the hobbits, the troll started walking towards them.
'Run!' Merry yelled. Merry and Pipin ran one way and Sam and Frodo ran the oppisite way. The troll started smashing the walk but didnt' kill anything, so he went after Sam and Frodo. Sam fell off by accident. Frodo hid behind a pillar and hid dropping his sword in the process. The troll and Frodo played a game of hide and seek for a few mintes. Mean while, Merry and Pipin jumped on the trolls back and stabbed him there. The troll threw them off, but Frodo had jumped down to find his sword. The troll picked up a wooden spear and threw it at Frodo. Frodo fell to the ground, just as Aragorn came running to save him.
'Eldiriel! wrap that chain around that pillar and than shoot this at the trolls back.' Legolas said handing Eldiriel a chain with an arrow connected to it. Eldiriel obeyed.
'Now what?' Eldiriel asked.
'Climb up on his head!' Legolas said. 'Try to get his head pulled back!'
Eldiriel didn't understand but it wasn't the place or time to ask what his cousin was thinking. Eldiriel climbed up on the troll and shot an arrow in his head, the troll looked back and Legolas shot an arrow in his throat. Eldiriel was thrown off and landed near Aragorn and Frodo. The troll couldn't breath, and soon fell to the ground dead.
'Frodo?' Aragorn asked as he crawled closer to him. Sam, Pipin and Merry slowly walked up behind Aragorn peering over his shoulder. Boromir, Eldiriel, Legolas and Gandalf gathered around them also.
'I'm alright.' Frodo whispered.
'I think there is more to this hobbit than meets the eye.' Gandalf said smiling. Frodo smiled and reiled mithril(sp).
'Mithril!' Gimli gasped.
'We have to keep moving.' Gandalf urged.
Aragorn helped Frodo up, and than the ran through the east door which was still open. Guided by Gandalf they reached a stair case and fled down them, as they heard the goblins and orcs following.
'Down the stairs! Quickly!' Gandalf ordered. Legolas was in the lead helping the hobbits keep up while Gandalf made sure everyone was there. Soon they reached another hall, and were trapped by goblins, who had headed them off.
'Stay close to me!' Gandalf said as the Fellowship gathered into a small circle, hobbits on the inside. Legolas, Eldiriel had their bows ready, and re-filled with arrows after the attack in Balin's tomb. Aragorn had Andruil drawn, fear came into the eyes of the orcs and goblins, but they kept coming. Boromir had his sword drawn as well. Suddenly, there was a huge thud, and all the goblins and orcs lead for dear life.
'Well, I knew we would scare them away.' Pipin joked, to lighten the mood, which didnt help. Legolas looked behind the group where the sounds of the thuds were coming from.
'Balrog!' Legolas yelled in terror. Eldiriel looked at his cousin, he had never seen him so terrified before. Eldiriel took the lead along with Gandalf and Aragorn. Eldiriel looked back when he heard one of the hobbits fall. It was Merry. Merry rolled and rolled, falling far behind the group. Legolas saw this stopped and turned around. Ran to Merry who was dazed and confused. Picking up the hobbit, Legolas turned to look at the approaching terror and ran.
Up ahead the fellowship saw the Bridge of Khazad-dun.
'Quick! Over the bridge!' Gandalf yelled. Gandalf looked over at the group. 'Aragorn! Go lead them! Your swords aren't of any more use here!' Gandalf cried. Looking back, the balrog was on the other side of the bridge.
'YOU SHALL NOT PASS!' Gandalf yelled. There came a hidious laugh, if you could call it that from the creature. The balrog took a step toward Gandalf.
'YOU SHALL NOT PASS!' Gandalf cried. He slammed his staff on the bridge infront of him. The creature again took a step foward and the bridge began to break from the spell Gandalf had put upon it. The bridge broke and the balrog fell down into the deep depths of Moria. Gandalf sighed and started to walk towards the fellowship. Odds were against the Fellowship it seemed, the balrog had used it's power to grab Gandalf by the leg and bring him down with him. Gandalf caught hold of the edge of the bridge. The hobbits started to run towards Gandalf, but Boromir stopped them.
'Go you fools! Fly!' Gandalf said, than it seemed like he let go. Gandalf was gone.
'Gandalf!' Frodo yelled. Grabbing the hobbits, Aragorn in the lead with Frodo, Boromir with Pipin and Sam, Legolas with Merry and Gimli bringing up the end ran out of Moria.
