Technology is mesmerizing. Since the first flame enchanted its maker to reach into the fire, the by-products of technological advancement have been confusion, followed by acceptance, leading to eventual obsession or revulsion. The essence of technology is change, which begins on an intimate level, eventually progressing through the larger structures of families, societies, civilizations.
The use of the computer has forced change to occur on a global scale. Change is frequently accompanied by fear: fear of the unknown, fear of dehumanization, the loss of identity...
Rather than wallow in this state, it is necessary to embrace change, to become that which we most fear, in order to better understand the consequences of our actions. We must become that which threatens to eliminate us.
