A guide to fully utilize your e-group.

What all facilities I can avail?

1>     Send/ Receive email messages to/from all members of the egroup.

2>     Change the email address on which u want to receive the group emails yourself.

3>     Control the flow of email messages… i.e. those who check mails very irregularly may find their inbox flooded, so u can make a setting that all messages of a day are combined in one single message b4 being delivered to your inbox, however choosing this setting u will not receive any attachments that were with the original message.

4>     Check/Read any message that has been posted on this group since its formation, even if u have deleted them from your inbox.

5>     The egroup is provided with 20 MB of free space which each member can use to upload & dwnload files. The files u upload remain there until u urself remove them. Also 512 MB space is available to store all previous mails (which are automatically stored).

6>     Create & take part in polls

7>     Access to group website & Create ur own web page & launch it on the egroup and so many more features…

Types of Memberships?

However to have access to all these facilities pls understand the foll:

            There are two memberships in the group…

1>     Email membership

2>     Full membership

Email membership is the one which I can subscribe you (which I have already done), where only facility 1> above is provided to you. Full membership u have to subscribe for urself & for that yahoo requires that you have ur own  YAHOO MAIL – ID ( Yes they are of-course taking advantage of sponsoring our egroup). However once u have a yahoo ID, u can still receive the emails on any other ID (eg rediff, hotmail etc) by using the alternate email ID feature of yahoo.

What type of membership I am having currently?

To Check this go to the foll link

it will ask you first to enter your yahoo ID & password (which is your yahoo email - user name & password), if by entering it u go to the group website, then you are having full membership & u can avail all above stated facilities by browsing thru the website…

If after going to above link u get the message … “ u r not member of this group etc. etc.” then u do not have full membership.

What is the procedure to update from email to full membership?

1>     Create a yahoo e-mail account. Your user name will be your yahoo ID for the egroup. (If you already have one then you can use it.) P.S. If you have subscribed to Royals_ELX using yahoo email ID then u will have to use the same email ID only.

2>     I will be sending u an email which will be of the following format…

Subject: Access the ROYALS_ELX web features!

You are currently an email member of the Yahoo! Group ROYALS_ELX.

This means you are subscribed to the group's email list but do not have access

to the group's web features.

(You will need a Yahoo! ID to log in. If you currenly do not have a

3>     Please follow the link & enter your yahoo mail ID & password & you will directly be taken to group website giving you the full membership.  

(This mail is already sent to all group members, already once; but if u did not received it or deleted it etc. Please mail me, and I will resend u the above mail.)

How do I use all facilities after becoming full member?

Once u enter group website & see our SVITS mono, every facility is just a click away, just do some R & D and you will understand & able to utilize them all. However few important ones I am telling u the way…

1) How to use Alternate email ID feature?

Ans: Go to “Edit my membership” link on top right, & there create an alternate email Id by reading the instructions provided. For eg if you have a rediffmail id as abc@rediffmail.com & your newly created yahoo Id is xyz@yahoo.com then select – create alternate ID & write abc@rediffmail.com there. Then a message will be sent by yahoo people to your rediffmail inbox. From your rediffmail inbox then reply to the message or as whatever they say, then ur rediffmail id will be set as an alternate ID for your yahoo ID. Now select this alternate ID for receiving mails & all egroup emails will be sent to ur alternate ID, whereas other mails (i.e. not frm egroup will remain unaffected.) Moreover u can have multiple alternate Ids & change or delete your ID as many time as you want, provided u do not forget original yahoo Id & password.

2) How do I check amt of emails from egroup flooding my inbox?

Ans: Go to “Edit my membership” link on top right & tick the relevant way u want to receive emails. P.S. if you select no email then you will not receive any email in your inbox but u can check messages on the website of Royals_ELX.

3) How do I upload files & download them?

Ans: Simple, as u enter the website, click on files menu on the left & u will find all files already uploaded till date along with date & name of person who has uploaded it. Just click & dwnload it. To upload click on the upload link & indicate the file on ur computer in the same way as u upload an attachment. For eg, I have just uploaded elex_batch.xls file sent by Rupesh, containing wonderfully compiled contact information of all people in our batch.

4) How do I know who all are the members of egroup & what r their mail IDs ?

Ans: Again same, go to the members link on the left hand side & u can access all the information.

            Friends, I have tried my level best since the foundation of this egroup that we all get a platform to be in touch with each other, even after BE & have always updated the group to include all the latest facilities provided by yahoo. This utilization guide also I have prepared with my sincere efforts so that even novice users, find it easy to fully utilize the egroup. However the final results of all my efforts is dependent on how you exploit the group, & how much u are interested in your fellow classmates & being in contact with them…
