Obstacle Avoidance

The purpose of the Obstacle avoidance system is to integrate the
Sonar System into the robot, and establish communication with the
EYEBOT controller with the intention to make the robot recognize
obstacles and avoid them.

The Obstacle Avoidance System consists of various parts:

Sonar module
Servomotor
Obstacle Avoidance Board

The system used in the design was
the ULTRA-BEAM 923 series. The
Ultra-Beam 923 series are rugged
and reliable ultrasonic proximity
sensor with analog outputs. They are
ideal for applications that require
proximity mode distance sensing and
a continuous linear analog output

Main Features:
  • The system has reliable proximity and distance sensing of
materials regardless of transparency or color.
  • The system is able to sense objects as close as 20 inches
or as far as 20 feet from sensor face.
  • The system can work as Sourcing (voltage) or Sinking
    (current) analog based output connection.
  • The system is able to interface with
    variable speed DC motor drives,
    microprocessors, and programmable
    logic controllers.
  • OBSTACLE AVOIDANCE DESCRIPTION:

    Sensor Output:
The system has two analog solid-state outputs that are:
0 to +10mV dc (sourcing); minimum 500-ohm load.
0 to 20mA dc (sinking); 4 V dc maximum voltage drop.
    Response Time:
The response time of the system is in milliseconds.
    Indicator LED:
The top-mounted red LED indicator light is activated whenever power is applied to the sensor.
    Operating Temperature Range:
The operating temperature range is from 0° to 50° C
    Voltage Supply:
The system works with voltage between 10 and 30 V dc.
    Circuit Protection:
The system works with voltage between 10 and 30 V dc.
