D-MONIC Build Reports- August/September
- 12/30/03-Today Mitch and I went started building D-Monic IV. The design has changed several times over the last few months. We started with the idea of making a horizontal spinner. It then went through several revisions until we finally decided that we would take the original horizontal spinner design and turn the blade vertically. Today we went over to Lone Star Metals in Ft. Worth to buy some steel tubing for the frame. We got over 20 ft. of square tubing for $10.95, that is a lot less that the steel we got for the first D-Monic's frame.
- 12/31/03-Today Mitch figured out the dimensions of the frame.
- 01/05/04-Today Mitch welded up the bottom of the frame. To my suprise he decided to change the frame's shap to look a lot like the original D-Monic's frame.
- 01/24/04-Today I went over to Mitch's to get the frame finished. I got to his house at about 2 PM (after a stop at Tanner Electronics and Fry's Electronics). We talked for a while, and we discovered that we might not have enough metal to complete the frame. We decided to work with what we had until we ran out of metal, and we started no earlier than 2:30. From 2:30 until 5 we cut the frame peices out with Mitch's band saw. Mitch called his dad to ask if he could pick us up some metal on his way home, and he told Mitch that there was a bunch on steel tubing under the frame of the Cobra kit car that takes up about half of their garage. At 5 we cleaned up the saw and set up the welder. From 5:30 until 8:30, Mitch TIG welded the frame. After he finished, I took the frame and all of the bot's components home.

- 01/25/04-Today I MIG welded on some of the supports for the weapon on the frame. I also put all the peices inside, and it is a very close fit. Wireing this bot is gonna be hard. Also, I put the frame next to the old frames and Casey's new frame to get an idea for the size of it. It's the smallest D-Monic frame yet, but not nearly as small as mean green Fightin Machine's frame.
