DAVID LAST
The Push Pull
Record label: theAgriculture
Format: CD
Release date: 18 January 2005

David Last is a fine addition to the stellar roster on theAgriculture, a label that somehow manages to keep finding new and interesting ways to interpret and further manipulate the sounds of dub. The Push Pull makes good on that challenge. Full of noises that tickle your brain and accent beats that cause you to move your body, this is (first and foremost) a whimsical album. The lighthearted nature of many of the sounds surrounding the rhythms bring added smiles to an already pleasant listening experience. Those looking for something to bump in their ride will gravitate towards "Secret Society," a song that the BSOTS fam likes to refer to as "demented dancehall." More epic scenarios take shape in "Makeout Stakeout" and "Posca Kid," the latter of which takes its time in unfolding and each second is well spent. David Last's debut full-length sets the bar high for theAgriculture; 2005 looks to be a great year for this label.
