You must not have tried Aldec - it used to be almost impossible to use,
it is now mostly OK, has a few cute features, and some 'features' that
make such messes that they make you delete wires and redraw rather
than moving things around.I have to use it for Xilinx CPLD and FPGA
designs, as the interface from Protel to Xilinx tools is SUPPOSED to
work, but really doesn't.

I still think some of the old Tango Schematic tools were about the best
for quickly drawing and modifying schematics.
