<snip>

>Hey, how much fun would printed circuit design be without these
little
>challenges?

<snip>

I don't know...but I'd like to find out :)

I have things working again
now.

Brute force caveman approach
taken:

    1. I deleted the offending ODBC
drivers

    2. Re-installed W98 to replace the drivers...but they were not
replaced

    3. Re-installed P99SE (using REPAIR option). This put the ODBC
drivers back and the thing has come back to life.

The original problem that precipitated
all this soft surgery still remains. When generating the Gerbers for the PCB in
question Protel spits out the error message:

        Design Explorer Error

        [Microsoft][ODBC Microdoft Access 97 Driver] Too few parameters. Expected
30.

I then press IGNORE and proceed

Upon loding the files in Camtastic (the freebie) I get 6 error messages -
Invalid 0-Radius Arc.

These arcs appear to be on the overlay layers: 1 on the Bottom; 5 on the
Top

While coords are given they are invisible and cannot be selected or
deleted.

The Gerber files for the Top and Bottom Overlays seem to be OK in all other
respects on screen though.

I think at this stage I will send off the files I have for manufacture and
hope the indicated errors do not upset the PCB people too much.

It would however be nice to know whats going on here.

<snip>

>To answer another current question, it's obvious that I haven't
seriously
>tested W2000, but we have many reports of stable operation of
W2000 and
>Protel.

<snip>

I have read many favourable comments here regarding W2000. The request has
been made to the powers that be for an upgrade.

<snip>

>I still haven't done it myself, but I should have installed W2000. The
only
>reason I tolerate system problems, plus the resource shortage
described in
>other recent posts, is inertia, and the lack of a Round
Tuit.

<snip>

I myself have been trying to find an
ongoing and reliable source of Tuits. If my efforts bear fruit I will be sure to
forward the necessary ordering information your way Mr. Lomax.

Many thanks to Messrs Karavidas and Lomax
for your thoughts on this matter.

For myself, this has all been a little too stressful. I think I
will now have a nice lie down.

The Olympic torch is due past here
tomorrow morning so I won't worry about the vagaries of Mr. Protel until
tomorrow afternoon
