Fleet Objectives
Exploratory Objective
The
exploratory objective of mine warfare determines if mines are present, and if so,
their disposition, type and status.
Breakthrough Objective
The
breakthrough objective of mine warfare to open channels allowing for the access
to allied shipping to enter and exit ports.
Attrition Objective
The
attrition objective of mine warfare is to keep the threat level as low as
possible while mine sweeping and mine hunting when traffic must continue.
Clearance Objective
To remove
all mines from a designated area. All
shipping is stopped until mine hunting or mine sweeping is completed.
Offensive mine countermeasures involve
the actions to reduce or destroy an enemy's ability to produce or lay mines,
while defensive mine countermeasures involve the clearance of mines.
Mine hunting involves searching for
individual mines and disposing of them, generally with an EOD team. Mine sweeping involves the removal of
large minefields.
