Access controls are controls to prevent unauthorized users from using computers on a network. Physical access controls mean stopping people getting onto the computer by physical force, logical access controls are done on the computer. There are two different access controls, which are physical and logical. Physical access controls would mean things like locks and keys, ID cards, swipe cards and security guards. Logical access controls would be things like passwords and ID access rights. Access controls are used so that other organizations can't gain competitive advantage from the information, to prevent users corrupting the data e.g. viruses and data on individuals is kept secure and private.
