THE HOME OF DA CLOCKER Continued..

..:My Computers Past And Present:..

For my very FIRST Computer I had a 486DLC/33 with 4MB of ram,a 1X Rom,a Zoltrix 8-bit sound card and a 125MB Samsung HD with a Trident 1MB VGA video card on a Magnavox 14" Monitor.. CAN YOU SAY ..SLOW?!

This is my AMD K6-2/400 System that sported an air-cooled Peltier that I had on my K6-2 400 overclocked to a rather WARM 504Mhz@2.8V. And THAT is a good overclock for a K6-2/400 that is not running at a zub-zero temperature. The processor run around 25C. This system had an MSI SS7 mainboard,64MB of Dram,32X Acer Rom,SB AWE64 Gold sound card,ATI Rage 128 16MB Vid card on a Proview 15" Svga monitor and a 3.2 Gig Quantum Bigfoot HD (Sluggish)

NEXT,I had a P2 350 with 128mb ram,a 40X Acer Rom,AWE64 Gold SB,13 GIG Quantum Fireball HD,a BIG jump for me,and a Voodoo 3 3000 Vid card OVERCLOCKED from 166mhz to 208mhz!!>(SEE MY V3 OVERCLOCKING PAGE FOR MORE INFO)
Also I had the P2 350mhz OVERCLOCKED to 525MHZ/150Fsb on the Abit VT6X4 and Asus P3V4X. REAL nice Overclock.. the 350s were wicked nice chips!

THE NEXT UPGRADE

Next I bought a Pentium 3 600E Processor,a 17" Samtron monitor. P3-600e's,JUST SIMPLY ROCK! PERIOD! Keep readin' to the next paragraph to see the fun I had with THAT puppy!

THE OVERCLOCKER THAT I AM.

I am able to run my Pentium 3 600E processor at 900MHZ at STOCK Voltage with an FSB speed of 150MHZ. This is possible thanks to my ABIT VT6X4 mainboard. To bad A-Bit only gave it the Softmenu II which gives me NO controll over the chipset I/O Voltage. At 3.3V the chipset seems to DESTABILIZE after running intense 3D games for an extended amount of time so..it locks up. I think this is the problem because I had an ASUS P3V4X that I traded for THIS mainboard,(DUMB!), and I ran this same exact chipset at 3.4V to 3.5V and I cant remember it locking up in 3D games. But I have been told by people who run the P3V4X that even at 3.5V it still eventually locks up at 150FSB. I can run it at 150 FSB for everyday use or benchmarking..but not 3D accellerated games. 150MHZ is as high as my mobo will go,even though this processor is capable of running probably at/over 160Mhz fsb stable but may need a slight voltage increase. I recomend buying ASUS mainboards. If you are running an INTEL processor it is best to use INTEL chipsets ESPECIALLY the 440BX and 815 series. VIA chipsets are slightly slower because they dont have as good of memory bandwidth and generally have more glitches in them.

When Overclocking Your Processor ADD EXTRA COOLING!!

Now over-clocking your chip it creates extra HEAT and LOTS of it! So to combat this I bought an extra large Heatsink\Fan combo. Now to remove Intel's Slot1 heatsink and fan is tricky because it involves removing it with things like aws and drills! NUFF SAID. After removing the junky stock heatsink we then "lapped" the heatsink flat to a mirror finish and applied a "smear" of thermal paste for perfect surface contact. If You run Windows ME it has a built in software cooler to keep a handle on the heat. This is an intergrated application which "turns off" parts of the processor that are not being used at that time. I still favour Windows 98' because WINDOWS ME is a memory hog. So I use WaterFall to do the same thing. You can ALSO see that I am Using THREE fans on the heatsink! :-)

This is the heatsink and fan combo on my Pentium 2 350@525 and the Pentium 3 600E@900.

Here is a closeup of my system. The chassy is kind of "different",you either LOVE it or it. I LIKE IT,most people it.

My Latest Little Case Modification

One thing you discover about AMD's processors is, THEY RUN HOT! So putting any old heatsink on them and closing in the chassy is gonna result in a processor a few months down the road and may also cause a very unstable system. In the pics below you can see the large ThemalTake Volcano 6 heatsink and fan on the CPU and where I cut a hole in the side pannel and installed an 80CFM on the side pannel which blows cool outside air directly onto the 60 CFM pannel fan which the air is funneled right into the center of the heatsink. This cheap little mod dropped my IDLE temps from 71C with the side cover on to 48C with the cover on..BIG DIFFERANCE!
