J.C'S PERSONAL WEBPAGE,Continued..

The FIRST Water Cooling Attempt

Here is a pic of the first water block I fabricated.(copper) It took about 4 hours to make. Water is circulated by a pump and removes the heat away a lot like water does in the block of an engine. A mini-rad is usually used in conjunction with a fan to cool the water off. And then it is returned to a resevoiur to be recirculated. The hoses enter and exit through a slot cover I drilled two holes in.

This is what it all started out as.

These items cost about $15.00 and looked kinda useless at first.

THE Heap Is Assembled.
(This look scary or what?)

This was Beta cooler version 1.0 HA! This design had a lot of drawbacks, the pump sounded like an air popcorn popper, and it overheated and began to act eratic because it was inteded as an intermitant pump...not constant. Also, whereas I had no radiator to cool the heated water the CPU temps got alot higher than I wanted them too. This is all cool but what if you want it all to work RIGHT? ..well..

The SECOND Water Cooling Attempt..in progress..

I took an old P2 SECC heatsink to work and took a cutting wheel and a sanding disc to it and cut off all but a square patch of fins in the middle. I flattened all the rest of the heatsink to make it look good as as well as lapping the back side for optimum processor contact and I cut the heatsink to the correct size to fit the bottom of the plastic cap.

Now what I did is get one of those PVC sewer pipe caps and cut around the little square piece on the top that you use to tighten the cap with a wrench, and place it over the remaining square patch of fins. The best thing to use to ensure it dosent leak is to glue the cap on the heatsink with Industrial silicone,or plumers glue to make sure it is PERMANENTLY on there and that there will be NO leaks..or else yo machine is TOAST! Next I drilled and tapped holes for the inlet and oulet fittings installed. Also I bought a cool little mini fountain pump. It Will pump water for ever! It Is also has a varible GPH selector too. Also I got an all-in-one radiator/Fan unit as you can SEE in the pics below.

ALMOST...THE FINISHED PRODUCT!

Keep you all posted as the project creeps along..
