NEW SOUTH WALES

I haven't seen much of NSW

The First State

New South Wales: (Area = 801,600 kmē) (Population = 6,000,000)

Sydney Harbour Bridge & Opera HouseNew South Wales is the most populous state in Australia and is home to Australia's biggest city Sydney (pop 3.7 million). Sydney harbour is arguably the most beautiful in the world and the eastern coastline has many beautiful beaches such as, Bondi, Manly and Coogee just to name a few. Whether you go for a cruise on the harbour (the Manly Ferry is recommended) or just walk along Circular Quay near the Opera House you will no doubt be impressed with this city.

Sydney Skyline West of Sydney is the Blue Mountains National Park, and beyond that you start to venture into the endless Australian Outback. South of Sydney is the Royal National Park and beyond that is the city of Wollongong. North of Sydney is the Kurangai Chase National Park. Further north from there is the city of Newcastle.

Manly BeachThe eastern coastline of New South Wales is made up of beaches seperated by cliffs for almost the entire length and there are many good surf breaks.
One outstanding beach is Byron Bay in the north of the state, Byron Bay is also Australia's most easterly point.

Further inland in the Great Dividing Range is the senic New England Region which at one stage applied to become a State but this didn't eventuate as Newcastle (the only city in this area) voted to stay with New South Wales. The New England region is aptly named as it resembles England with its cooler climate, 4 distinct seasons and there are many plants that grow here that you won't find down on the coast.

There are also many protected areas of Rainforest within the Great Dividing Range which are ideal for trekking.

I never saw much of NSW, just went through to South Australia and kept going "left"
