What is Forensics?

Forensics often is taken to mean CSI. However, WE DO NOT CUT UP DEAD BODIES! In fact, the Merriam-Webster dictionary offers the following entry:
One entry found for forensic.
Main Entry: 2forensic
Function: noun
1 : an argumentative exercise
2 plural but singular or plural in construction : the art or study of argumentative discourse

Here we see that it refers to debate, and can also mean public speaking. The official NFL (National Forensic League, that is) website can offer a better idea of Forensics.

Forensics is a collection of speaking, acting, oral interpretation, and radio broadcasting events performed in competitive settings with the goals of improving the communications skills and self-esteems of the students involved. The term forensics itself comes from the Latin root words forensis and forum, which relate to public debate and places of discussion.

Rules: DEBATE IS A COURTESY EVENT!!!!!!!I understand that a debater often would like to wring his or her opponent(s) neck(s). I too have experienced this feeling. However, this is a large no-no. Be nice.
