February 2005

Choice Move: Ray
Well with all the hype surrounding Jamie Fox’s portrayal as Ray Charles, I was a tad bit worried this movie might not live up to expectations in my own mind. Well it not only lived up to them it surpassed them. I love the fact they don’t try to make him seem like a saint who always made the right choices, they showed him as a flawed human being who went through a lot of hard tribulations despite what his public persona might suggest. The music in it is just killer, and there’s some great bonuses if you’re a fan of R’N’B music, that they’ve intertwined with the movie, which I was definitely impressed with. Jamie Foxx’s acting in it is so incredible, and the way they shot this film was just visually incredible, I just can’t believe they were able to capture a time and one of music’s monumental forces on films so well!

Choice Music: Sum 41 “Chuck”
I’m going to give the whole album praise for this month despite having heard all of it. I’ve heard the two main singles and they just bring me to my knees. The whole music scene has become so self-absorbing, and calculated lately it’s great to see someone branch out and try something new. Sum 41 best known for songs off their “All Killer No Filler” album like “Fat Lip”, have transcended themselves from this pop-punk music genre and really have become rockers with something poignant to say. In “We’re All To Blame” the lyrics about the time period we’re in right now and the war, and everything that’s going on, it’s hard to not listen to and feel something. It’s a song that can change or at least heighten you’re whole perspective on the topic. Next is their latest single, “Pieces”, I listen to that song and can just relate to it so easy. It’s a great song, and is just flawless. I will be buying the whole CD shortly, and then I’ll come back and tell you guys more about the cd as a whole. But listening to these two songs alone, I must suggest adding some Sum 41’s new music into any collection.

Choice TV Show: My Wife and Kids
It’s really been hard to find a show that’s great to watch and actually features live people not on a reality show and is about family life. Add on ABC to that and you’ve had nearly impossible since Friends, Survivor, and American Idol exploded on to the scene. However “My Wife and Kids” headlined by one of the many Wayan’s brothers and costarring Keisha Cambell. Is that show, it’s so fun to watch and it’s really got great jokes and great storylines. The show is in it’s fourth season now, but even if you haven’t seen all the episodes prior it’s really easy to jump into this show at any point. It’s been gaining a lot of momentum lately and as long as it keeps up the great work this thing is going to skyrocket. If you like that “In Living Color”/”Martin”/”Family Matters” kind of comedies this is perfect, watch it and you’ll see what I mean.

Choice Way to Look Insane: Supporting Jacko/ Auditioning for Martha
First of all I DO NOT ENDORSE going to either of these extremes to look insane, but if you really want your friends to think you’ve lost it and this time you have really gone off the deep-end, have I two solutions for you. First off Michael Jackson, you know the pop star/rnb star always on the top of the charts who dances amazingly and everyone loves, wait that’s Usher. Well at one time it might have been Michael, lately he’s more the F***ED UP Freak of the Music World who is no where near allowed to have any more sleepovers. In case you’ve missed it, he’s on the verge of being put in prison for molesting a child at least if you believe the “allegations” (the man’s guilty who we kidding?). But here’s how you use this to your advantage. First off make a sign, t.shirt what have you professing your love for Michael Jackson and his innocence, let people know if you had kids you’d let them sleep over Michaels house all the time, and that there’s no way the man who created “Thriller” could molest a child. Want to scare people even more, tell them that you think he’s never had plastic surgery, and in your mine, he’s actually only gotten better looking with age. Or if this sends the shivers down your spine and is making you ill like it is me, there’s always option 2. Martha Stewart, currently in prison for insider training, will be doing what when she gets out? Hosting her own version of The Apprentice, as plans were announced this week they have begun looking for contestants for this show. Tell people you tried out and are about to find out if you’re picked soon, if your good at convincing them watch their faces squirm and they try to convince you this has the words “FALL GUY” written all over it!

Choice Gift/Accessory: Peacey “peace”
I do not mean hippie-pot smoking peace, or the scary peace sign gesture thing Michael Jackson and his fans do back and forth on his way into the courtroom. By peace I mean tranquility, it’s a great gift to give to someone and a great accessory for you. Feel like blowing up on someone, rethink about the situation, revaluate it and instead allow yourself to go in a new direction that doesn’t involve such hostility. Also why fret over a bunch load of small stuff if you aren’t using it to inspire you creatively it’s not worth it LET IT GO! And hey best of all it’s FREE!!! And it makes life in general calmer, easier, and more enjoyable!

Choice Drink/Food/Candy: Sobe, Subway, Caramello
Basically for the month of February I suggest indulging yourself in your favorites at least one day. Mine, my favorite drink is a Sobe Green Tea, prefer something else why not allow yourself to have it as a reward for making it this far in life and putting up with everything and having all the holiday crap behind you. Second my favorite food a Buffalo Chicken Subway sub on Italian Herb and Cheese roll and for candy/dessert choice a Caramello bar, is where my cravings led me. If you get a couple days off in a row and get everything else down you had to do, on your last day before you have to go back I definitely recommend taking time to enjoy some of your favorites, and hey if you want to try something new, feel free to help yourself out to my suggestions!
