| Title: Some people are just so ungrateful. Time: Wednesday, March 17, 2004 The Thespians: Elijah Cruise, Lien Nguyen, Toby Darling and Pascal Curio Location: Allis Memorial Center - Dining Hall and Practical Magics - Basement; Potions Classroom Notes: Pascal is slowly working her magic on Toby. No pun
intended. This is the resulting *rumours post from this little RP. |
| +---[ Allis Memorial Center - Dining Hall ]-----------------------------------+ | | | An enormous room, its ceiling curving upward in a slowly sloping dome | | shape, painted light gray with the school's symbol, a red cougar head upon | | a crest of armor between two torches, spread in colossal proportions 'cross | | its surface. Walls are the same color, hung with portraits and paintings | | depicting various events, scenes, and people, completely devoid of any | | windows at all. The plush, dark blue carpet covering the entire expanse of | | the floor is speckled occasionally with clusters of pattered tiny gray and | | yellow squares in sundry designs. An assorted amount of rectangular, | | lightweight tables are scattered about the room in no particular order due | | to students always rearranging them. The tabletops are painted gray with | | white flecks, black metal legs supporting them. Stacked against the walls | | and grouped at numerous tables are hard-but-still-comfortable chairs, their | | seats and backings matching cobalt. | | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |
The morning had seemed longer than usual. Ridiculously longer. In fact it seemed like a week had gone by, at least that was the case for Elijah. And now, finally, it was lunch time! What a wonderful time of day. Ravenous students stream into the dining hall awaiting to be fed. The lunch service today was cafeteria style, allowing each student to pick and choose what they would like. As Eli gets to the front of the line, he takes a bowl of soup and two sandwiches. What an appetite! However, not only does he take, but he gives. He manages to slip a laughing-bubbling potion (which he was currently testing) into the rest of the soup. Smirking, he walks to a nearby table and awaits to see its effects. Someone should let Elijah know that testing potions on human subjects isn't kosher.
Lien Nguyen isn't laughing, yet, anyway. She trudges into the Dining Hall after a particularly testing Charms class--and she was in a bad mood BEFORE that. The short sixth grader's eyes focus on the floor as she works her way through the crowd of students to get in line, waiting through it sullenly and taking only a small bowl of soup and a few crackers. She really ought to look around, instead of sulking, because she takes the first available seat... which happens to be just across the table from Elijah. She's too concerned with poking grumpily at the soup to look up and see this.
Elijah Cruise can't help but smile at the sight of Lien. In fact, some might even think he found her likeable. However, those people would be wrong. He smiles a little and leans back in his seat. "Hey Oompa!" he calls unsure whether she'll respond or not.
The spoon poking at the soup freezes, as does Lien. Oh, why, Lord, why? Slowly the child lifts her head, the black pigtails falling forward and only barely avoiding death by soup. Why, from the look on HER face, you might think that she doesn't like him! And you'd be right! One of the two of them enjoys these encounters. It's not Lien. A sound somewhere between a sigh and a growl escapes her throat. "Hello Elijah."
Toby Darling finishes getting his food from the lunch line. Fortunately his "say what you think" problem has worn off, but the 'I'm a Stupid Amerikan Brat' emblazoned on his forehead is still fading. He searches for a seat... boy it's crowded in here today. Ah! There! A girl just stood up. He dashes for the seat and drops his tray down, right next to Lien. "Oh, heya, Lien. What's up?"
Quickly, Elijah's smile turns sly. She responded! What a good day! He dips his spoon into his soup and puts it in his mouth. "Beautiful day, isn't it?" A single eyebrow is raised at Toby. He looks at Lien then back at Toby, "You two an item or somethin'?" He beams. It was a good day. Then he looks at Toby's forehead and squints to read the writing. The boy stifles a laugh.
Oh, beautiful day. Beautiful, beautiful day. Lien looks away from Elijah and very purposefully avoids even looking at Toby, scowling into her soup. She'd get up and walk away, but that's not much of an option. She begins to spoon her soup into her mouth, aiming to finish it off and leave quickly. Guess she's still mad at you, Toby.
Damn robes. Except this time Pascal has no one to blame but herself. After her last incident which ended with her robes in shreds, she was too busy to find herself a replacement, and well... forgot her simple fabric softener. The wool is itching into her skin, which only makes her that much more irritable today. She stalks into the dining hall, face flushed both by running to it from her dorm, and frustration of being itchy. And for Pascal, frustration /always/ ends in aggression.
"Shut up." Toby doesn't really feel like dealing with Elijah today. Sure, last time he stood up to Elijah Toby ended up knocked out on the floor of the library, but he'll take his chances here in the crowded dining hall. He turns to Lien, slightly bothered by her cold shoulder. "Okay, so you're not talking to me... again. Am I right?"
Elijah Cruise dips his first sandwich into the soup and eats the moistened part. Mmmmmmm. He looks back up at Lien and just blinks a few times. A nod is given to Pascal in greeting, although he doesn't speak. And as far as Toby's remark goes, Elijah leaves it alone. Why? So as not to draw too much attention to himself, at this moment that would be a /bad/ thing. Instead he just keeps eating his lunch.
In reply, Lien... giggles. Then she screws her face up and shakes her head, hard. This is not the time to... hee! Scowl. Three big, bright bubbles rise into the air above Lien's soup bowl. She glares instinctively at Elijah--not because she suspects him, but because she... doesn't like him. She still doesn't look at Toby; she's begun giggling in earnest now. Aw, nice her mood's improved! Except her eyes are still angry. If confused.
Frustration only mounts as the line-up seems to take even longer than usual today. Pascal looks more sour as the minutes tick by, but all she can do is stand there shooting darts of death at the students in front of her. She finally reaches the front of the line, and her hand starts to reach for a bowl of soup, just like many of the students before her. She, however, is saved by the shrill giggle coming from the direction of Lien. Her head snaps around and she stares at the girl, while distractedly grabbing just a sandwich. No assumptions are made yet, but she quietly makes her way over to Elijah, Toby and Lien.
Toby Darling peers at Lien as he sits. Okay, so she's mad at him but laughing? Did her soup just... fart? "Lien, you frighten me sometimes..." He digs in to his sandwich, he doesn't have time for girlie matters today. Ah, that soup looks good. -sluuuurrrrp-
Elijah Cruise lifts a hand to his mouth (to keep from laughing) and just stares at his soup, ignoring Lien's sudden reaction to his potion, and averting her glare. He takes another spoonful of his own and consumes it. He clears his throat to mask his own gleeful laughter (it worked!), and the noise that comes out is a strange one indeed. After clearing his throat he states, in reference to the noise, "Hairball." Time to play the part. Eli raises a confused eyebrow at Lien. Again he nods in greeting at Pascal.
Satisfied that his potion has done the trick, Elijah gets up from his table, leaving the rest of the soup. He picks up his sandwiches and heads for the door.
It's NOT funny... The air surrounding Lien begins to look like Lawrence Welk has come to Scattergood on tour, only more amusing than usual, because Lien is by now nearly doubled over with laughter, morphing slowly from giggles to an insane cackle, as her face contorts in an attempt to stop the laughter. This is going to make finishing her soup very difficult.
Yes, there are certain crews that fix meals for the students, does Pascal know anyone who might, oh, slip a little something-something into any sort of drink? Yes she does, which is why, as she reaches the table, she's staring at Elijah rather intently, even as he leaves the room. She'll have to have a little talk with him later. She takes up his seat and looks at her sandwich, then at Toby as he takes a spoonful of soup. Her lips are pressed in a rather deep frown, as she's trying not to laugh. Hard when Lien's about doubled over right across from her. "What, is so funny?" She manages to ask, though in her voice you can definitely hear amusement.
Toby Darling swallows a few mouthfuls of soup before he realizes that something's fishy. "Hey, did he do something to the..." -giggle- "soup?" -snigger- "ha ha ha... tee heee." He almost laughs some of the soup out of his nose.
Lien can't deal with this. She's had a bad enough day as it is, without being on the receiving end of a practical joke now. Gulping down water and pushing her chair out away from the table, she claps both her hands over her mouth, leaps to her feet and flees the room through the crowds, giggling unhappily under her hands. She will now crawl into a corner and wish she was dead. Again.
Now that Lien's gone, it's just Toby and Pascal all over again. The older girl picks up her sandwich gingerly and takes a small bite out of it, chewing rather deliberately as she looks over at Toby with an eyebrow raised. Swallow and in comes the sarcastic remark. "Do you really even /have/ to question that?" She's referring to him asking if he, being Elijah, did something to it.
-giggle- "No... tee hee... not really." Toby rests his face on the table and mumbles something about not needing another interesting defect.
"Get your head off of that table. You're going to sit here and just let the potion take its toll on you?" Pascal frowns at Toby. She doesn't entire like him, but at the same time, he's one of those she can tolerate, somewhat. Though his giving up so easily like this is nothing for her to marvel at. She takes another bite of her sandwich, places the rest in a napkin which is then shoved into her pocket and stands up. "Come on," she says with a rather disgusted sigh in his direction.
"Yes, I am going to just sit here and let the potion take... ha ha ha ha... its toll. What else am I going to do?" Toby picks his head off of the table and looks at Pascal, giggling. "You just want to find a way to get me into trouble, don't you?"
Rule number one. Don't piss Pascal Curio off when she's wearing an itchy robe. Rule number two. Don't question Pascal Curio when she's wearing an itchy robe. A shake of her right hand, and her wand pops into it. She keeps it by her side, but turns to glare at Toby, her knuckles whitening as her jaw tenses. "Do you /want/ to giggle all day, /and/ have that bloodly stupid message flashing on your forehead?" Her voice is mysteriously quiet, but that sense of don't mess with me has creeped back into it.
"Uh........" is all that Toby can manage, minus a giggle or two. If he answers "yes" he'll look like a doof. If he answers "no" he's gonna get in trouble. Yeah, he'll just stick with "uhhhh...."
That 'uhhhh....' is all the answer that Pascal needs. She's not planning on letting Toby not follow her, so she steps slightly to the side and waves her right hand, her wand waving in the air as well. "Go on. Let's go." She's not telling him where, or what's happening, but he can guess the worst if he feels like it.
Something tells Toby that he may regret this, but he stands and follows the girl. The semi-evil girl. She is evil, yet for some reason, he almost trusts her. "Oh.... kay..." -shifty eyes-
| +---[ Practical Magics - Basement; Potions Classroom ]------------------------+ | | | The Potions classroom is quite different from the rest of the basement | | rooms, pristine white alabaster tiles cover the floor, while deep, night | | blue walls sparkle like a night sky, tiny stars emitting soft pulses of | | light. The ceiling is domed very slightly, as if to support the room above | | it. Small orbs and crescent shapes float about the ceiling slowly, in | | random direction, the light they emit filling the normally dark room with | | immense brightness. Long counters made from thick, sturdy wood painted a | | dark gray are topped with smooth, black onyx which reflects the light in | | wisps of rainbow hues, an effect similar to oil on water. Metal stools for | | students to sit are enchanted with Fluffy Charms, making them surprisingly | | comfortable to sit on. Upon each long table in the center before each stool | | is a tiny pit filled with ashes, at the teachers command these pits ignite | | with flame, ready for a cauldron to be set upon them. Under the counters, | | within small cabinets, are tools used for juicing, slicing and handling | | various ingredients. For those who run out of ingredients, or potions | | requiring ingredients students don't have, a cupboard is set up in one | | corner with a sign that states [Student Ingredients.] The teacher's desk | | set in the front of the room is made from glade wood, a hard, black wood, | | almost looking scorched. On the walls behind the desk are huge lists of | | Potions that each grade has learned, and the ingredients for them. A | | blackboard stretches across the southeastern wall, blue chalk floats in the | | center, ready to write down recipes as the teacher explains them to the | | class, for those who are forgetful. Near the door, a pitch black hole in | | the shape of a perfect circle has been put into the wall for some reason, | | no light penetrating its dark abyss, two boards which have been painted | | deep blue make an X pattern over the hole with a sign that says, [Off | | Limits to Students!] | | | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |
Pascal Curio stalks quickly and quietly into the Potions Classroom, and waits impatiently at the door for Toby. "Come on, hurry up, and for shit's sake, shut your /mouth/!" The last thing she needs is for his incessant giggling to attract the attention of the whale.
Toby Darling somehow manages to keep his mouth shut (for once) and somehow has allowed himself to get dragged into a place he shouldn't be and doesn't want to be- the classroom of the Olive. He darts into the door just behind Pascal and pulls it shut. "Okay -muffled giggle- now what?"
"Now you stand at the door," Pascal says curtly, making it seem like it was well... a rather stupid question. "You stand at the door, and I'm going to go borrow the antidote. If they don't have it, then we'll just make one." She mutters something that sounds like, "Not --- Elijah --- show me up --- potions --- dammit." Whatever. So leaves Toby to his devices and carefully walks towards the teacher's desk, rummaging around in it.
"Make it!" -giggle- "What you mean, 'make it!?" Toby looks very uncomfortable, but he stands guard at the door anyway, watching Pascal as she drags both herself and Toby closer and closer to their ever-certain DOOM.
It's all about the rush you get in your veins and the adrenaline that flow through your body just before you reach your DOOM though. Pascal continues to rifle through the desk, throw open the cupboards and drawers by it. "No potions professor would ever start a potions class without having your standard antidote potion," she says rather matter of factly. That and well, she's been snooping in this class before. "So stand at the door. You know, act as a look out?" She looks up and rolls her eyes at the boy.
"Right. The -giggle- door. Look-out." As though Toby would make an adequate lookout. Not in his giggling state. That's like a mute junkyard dog garding for a blind junk yard owner.
Pascal Curio stops rummaging for a moment and looks at Toby with a sneer tugging on her lips. "It's your ass on the line, as well as mine, so don't screw up," is all she says, rather darkly, before she disappears behind the desk again. The sound of vials clinking together, and papers ruffling can be heard, as well as a swear word here and there, as it seems she's having a harder time than usual, finding it. "Lumos," and a small spot of light appears from behind the desk. "That's better." Pause. "Anyone coming?" She's teasing, of course, making sure Toby's on his feet.
-giggle- "No." Toby totally misses the joke. He's too busy wiping the sweat from his palms off on his robes. He nervously shifts his weight from one foot to the other. -giggle- "Come /on/ hurry up!"
"Oh, I'll take my time. I mean, with you as a look out, why do I even need to hurry?" Pascal's seemingly calm voice floats from behind the desk, and the spot of light dances back and forth, reflecting off the blackboards and the wall. The clinking sounds slow down, and even stop, but the light keeps on dancing around and around. She's definitely taking her time.
Toby Darling giggles and watches the door.
The light suddenly disappears, and the area by the teacher's desk has grown dark. The clinking noises have all but stopped, and there's no noise from Pascal. Is she even still... in the room?
Toby giggles as he turns around, stunned by the silence. "Pascal? Uh... -giggle- Where'd you go?" He takes a few steps into the room, pulls out his own wand ("Lumos") and searches a bit. He walks across to the teacher's desk. -giggle- "Pascal? Are you there?" Where the heck did she go?
"BOO!" Oh, she's still here alright. As Toby steps into the room, Pascal has quickly made her way around the classroom, so that well... she's right behind him. If he were to whip around with his wand to shine the light on her face, the shadows would make her seem rather, devilish, with that dark grin, eyebrows furrowed and eyes narrowed.
"GAAAAHHHHHHHH!!!!" Toby screams, giggles, and drops his wand as the room falls into darkness. "What the! Why you!" Toby giggles as he tries to take a blind swing at the girl who he knows could beat him up.
Maybe not so blind. Toby's punch lands true, and his swing strikes Pascal's left arm, barely missing her chin. Of course, she's holding the potion in her left hand, and well, it drops to the floor, but strangely, the vial doesn't break. Toby, on the other hand, may not be so lucky, because Pascal looks mighty pissed off. Her wand is held up right in front of her and she glowers at Toby. "You're going to regret that."
Following the potion's lead Toby drops to the floor and feels around for his wand. "Lumo-giggle Lum-giggle Lumos!" The room bursts back into light as Toby reaches for the vial of potion. He snags it and ducks out of the way of Pascal, ready to make a break for the door.
Pascal Curio lets Toby grab the potion, but she's not quite done with him yet. He still needs to actually get to the door, from the teacher's desk, and then open the door before he's home free. "Not so fast," she says sharply, pointing her wand at him. "Petrificus Totalus!" Full body bind. Not bad. Let's see if she hits, because if she doesn't get him now, she'll just get him later.
Almost... to the door. -giggle- Toby stops in his tracks. He can't help but not. .oO("What was that she just said?")Oo. He tries to reach for the doorknob but he can't seem to move his arms. What the? -plop- Toby falls over, stiff as a board, propped up by the very same doorknob he was just reaching for.
"Toby, Toby, Toby," Pascal says, tsking quietly. "Accio Toby," she mutters, and the boy's body floats towards her and she props him up against one of the tables. She walks around him slowly, scratching the side of her cheek with her wand. A rather menacing smile graces her face, and she leans close to Toby. "I was only trying to help you get rid of those stupid giggles you know," she says, mockingly playful, before she leans back. "Engorgio," she says finally, and then taps his nose. She's still being rather generous, his nose only swells slightly, but it's noticeable enough for others to be laughing at him. After that's done, she's headed for the door, and as she opens it, she calls out over her shoulder, "Don't forget to quaff the potion." As the door clicks shut, her body bind over Toby loosens. It's nice how she frees him /after/ she leaves.
