Title: It begins with shadows over the Mountain Lake
Time: Sunday, March 14, 2004
The Thespians: Elijah Cruise and Pascal Curio
Location: The Mountain Lake

Notes: Rated PG-13(?) for some slight swearing.  I can't believe I'm actually rating this, but there it is, it is done, and now we move on.
+---[ Scattergood Grounds - Mountain Lake ]-----------------------------------+

A crystal-clear mountain lake laps its waters up against its shoreline,
stretching out in an immense expanse to cover a good portion of land. The
water's edge holds various terrains, at one point it splashes gently upon a
sandy beach, another a grassy bank stands a foot above the pool; large
rocks are scattered here and there to sit upon, including partially
immersed in the water, as well as large trees of various types that provide
shading. On the eastern edge of the lake a daunting forest grows right up
to the tarn's edge, and there visible a small river merges with the lake,
coming at an odd angle from the north. The dirt path that cuts through the
area seems to stop about here, becoming so overgrown by grasses that it no
longer is visible.

It's a beautiful day, but one wouldn't know it, given the large scowl upon Pascal's face. The sun is shining, but the small breeze that flows through the area is soothing. Pascal's mass of forest green robes matches the grass colour here so well that she blends in, save her flaming auburn hair. She lies on her stomach upon the grassy bank, her arms stretched out over it. She holds several small rocks in her hand, and is throwing them into the lake. The splashes that result from the rocks are actually rather large; one could probably see that this girl has a little bit of anger in her at the moment.
Elijah Cruise struts to the Mountain Lake area. It was a great day! He'd even been able to torment a professor. That was an unusual occurrence. He's beaming from ear to ear as he approaches and then he notices Pascal. He fortunately has his satchel slung across his shoulder. "Hey!" he calls. "I have your book!" He approahces her. "What happened to you?" he asks as he notices her rather sour expression.
Unlike Elijah, Pascal actually hasn't had so much fun. "I lost my favorite--" her voice is cut off and she sits up quickly as Elijah reveals that he has her book. She forces a slight smile. "I dropped it when I ran off last time, didn't I?" A shake of her head as she mentally chastises herself. "Nothing, nevermind," she brushes off his question and then peers up at him, shielding her eyes from the sun. "You're happy today. Make more plans for love potions?" The last is said with some jest.
Still beaming Elijah reaches into his satchel and hands her the book. "Yes, you did drop it. And I'll give it back to you based on one condition, tell me your name." He smiles slyly and takes a seat next to her on the grass. "No love potions today. No, today I went to see Professor Potthast." He chuckles, "Did you hear about the picture?"
"Pascal Curio." She reaches out her hand for the book and shifts slightly for Elijah to sit. "I can guess yours well enough. Elijah Cruise?" A smirk, both for her last comment, and Elijah's comment about Potthast. "Oh, did I ever. Who knew she had such a devilish side to her? I have half a mind to bring a copy to her for signing, and then to ask to shake her hand." Pascal's got a glint in her eye, and she could be joking. Most likely not though. "I tell you this though. I'll never fall asleep in her class again, and I don't think many students will."
"Pleasure to meet you Pascal. And yes, I am Elijah Cruise. I have a sort of reputation around here, it's strange considering I've only attended for a year and a half." He grins. "When you bring it up with her, she seems less than pleased. In fact, it was most enjoyable." He chuckles to himself and shifts in the grass. "So, what grade are you in, Pascal?"
"You're a celebrity in my dorm," Pascal says matter of factly, tossing a rock into the lake so it skips a few times. She turns to look at Elijah, slowly grinning. "10th. But back to the topic at hand. I take it you took it upon yourself to go and... let's see... torment her? Oh... so now you have to tell me exactly what happened and how she reacted."
"A celebrity? All bad stuff I hope..." Elijah grins slyly. He nodsd at her comment. "I did. I went in without being invited, I knew she would pretend she wasn't there otherwise, I'm sure I'm not the only one who has gone to see her." Elijah smirks, "The nurse wanted me to see her anyways after the incident. See Professor Potthast is my
advisor." He pauses, "Anyways, she was immediately cranky and I asked her if her skirt was too tight...she tried to send me away and then I told her I wanted to talk about my future..." Elijah glances around. "... I told her I liked taking pictures. Portraits to be precise and that someday maybe I'd have the honor of taking her picture!" He beams. "She went absolutely livid! Professor Potthast is normally very good at hiding when I get under her skin, but not today! I had victory!"
"It seems that the more bad stuff you get yourself into, the more appealing you are to the girls in my dorm," Pascal says with a laugh, now picking at the grass since her hands are empty. Her book sits beside her and she's sure not to forget it this time, hopefully. "Christ, to be a fly on the wall when she went and freaked out on you." She's still laughing though, trying to picture Elijah in the room towering over Potthast and teasing her like that. "Oh, with you around, she's sure going to regret having had her picture taken at all." A pause. "How much you think she got paid for something like that, hmm? I sure hope it's worth all the talk she's going to get for the next while."
Elijah Cruise is pleasantly surprised about the girls. He grins at the mention of Potthast again, "Oh she freaked out. It was awesome!" He nods. "Whatever they paid her, it better have been a lot. I have no issue if a woman wants to do that, but wow! As a professor you'd think they'd be a little more careful about that sort of thing." He hands Pascal her book. "I picked it up when you left it, hoping I'd see you again." He lays down on the grass. "Have you ever noticed how boring this school is?" Staring at the blue sky, Elijah is looking for another recruit. He had three potentials including Pascal, but the question is a recruit for what.
"Thanks for picking that up. /I/ went livid when I couldn't find it in my room." Pascal rolls her eyes, but doesn't say much more about the meaning of the book to her. "I wonder if Potthast will do it again anytime soon," she says with a snicker, brushing all the blades of grass of her robe now. Her fingers search for rocks now, and she looks at Elijah with a rather blank expression. "Boring doesn't even begin to describe this school is. But you've got all the professors telling you that school is what you make of it, and all this crap, and what the hell do they know?" She rolls her eyes again. "I kind of wished I had gone to the Valentine's dance though, since what happened made it sound like this was excitement the school needed." She corrects herself quickly. "Not you getting hurt of course, but the love potion. You know what I mean."
Elijah Cruise nods a little at Pascal's response. "Indeed. The Professors all seem to think they know everything about everything." He picks some grass in his hands.  "Look.if school's what we make of it, we need to run the school." He glances around the lake area and lowers his voice. "This place needs to be spiced up. Just imagine a school where every student would follow your every whim." A sly smile creeps over his lips.
A lazy sort of satisfied expression creeps over Pascal's features, and for a moment she doesn't look like a stuck up bitch. She leans back on her palms and a smile to match Elijah's spreads over her face as she stares at him. "I would give up... well," she holds out her book, "this book for that to happen." Likely he doesn't understand, but she's off daydreaming about that now. "If the school was run by people like you and me, what a paradise."
Elijah Cruise is delighted with her response. "Exactly! It would make the place more than tolerable." He beams at her as he rolls onto his stomach. He places his elbows on the ground and props his head up with his hand. "That's why we all need to band together. We can intimidate the school into submission, we just need to show them that we will not be intimidated by any punishment they send our way." He glances around the lake area, "Look, if they were willing to expel students, I'd be gone by now. It's not happening! They're too concerned we'll be picked up by dark wizards or something...think of the possibilities!"
Elijah's word do have a lot of merit, if all those rumours about him were true. Pascal sits up again, crosses her legs, and rests her chin in her palms while resting her elbows atop her knees. She takes a careful look around as well, following Elijah's example, and then finally speaks. "Keep talking. You've peaked my interest." She bites her lip gently, her glimmering eyes glued to him. "How do you suppose you'd go around doing this?"
"That's the thing, intimidating other students isn't hard. You just have to be cold with them." Elijah blinks a few times. "I'm sure you've already begun intimidating some already even if it is not on purpose. People like us have presence. They demand attention. We need to tap into that. Instead of asking our fellow students for things, we demand them to do it (attaching threats is an acceptable practice as well). But the trick is, we need each other to make it work." Eli looks around at the school buildings in the distance. "Each of those buildings is full of students. One person can't intimidate them all. But five can reach way more people!" He nods at her. "Besides which, you seem cool enough. You'd fit into a group that would deserve such treatment!"
Pascal Curio lets a rather unexpected laugh escape from her lips as she receives Elijah's compliment. "Thanks, I guess," she says with a shrug, really not used to getting any compliments. "So who else would be in on this plan with us?" She asks, looking back at him, her interest creating a bright glow on her face. "I think I'll enjoy this probably a little more than I should," she smirks darkly, "but if they're going to be weak as they are, you're right. We need to tap into that weakness."
A half smile forms on Elijah's face. "You're more than welcome. I can't tolerate most of the people at this school, but I like you." He thinks about who would be in on the plan, "I'm working on three other prospective members, one of which is extremely influencable. Her name is Navilee Karzonia. The other's a rough around the edges girl named Kit Gerring. Kit's new to Scattergoods, but she's cool. Very tough, doesn't put up with crap. And the last prospective member of team is a twelfth grader by the name of Ritchie." He glances around and nods, "Exactly! Survival of the fittest and all that!"
"Navilee. Is she that drummer girl who doesn't give two hoots about anyone?" Pascal scratches the side of her temple thoughtfully, her brows furrowing as she looks off. "I think I met her briefly. Same place I was sitting where I met you. I liked her. I couldn't irk her." She laughs again and drums on her thighs. "Haven't met Kit or Ritchie though, but if you say they're good, then I believe you." Eyes are gleaming again. "When do you suppose this all should start?"
"As soon as possible. We can't tolerate more of this than we can bare. I'll keep up with my antics. If possible, try to interact with more students, getting them to move out of the way and the like." Elijah nods at this. "I still have to convince the others that this is an utterly brilliant plan. And yes, Navilee is a drummer." He grins. "I guarantee you, this /will/ be fun."
Pascal Curio really has no problem being a total bitch. "Oh, any reason to be a pain in the ass is good enough for me," she says to Elijah, that dark smirk appearing on her face again. She rubs her hands together in thought. "If the others are anything like you or myself, you won't have too much of a problem. I'm really looking forward to meeting the other two now."
Elijah Cruise grins. "Alright, I still gotta arrange things with them. But they'll join, eventually." He stands to his feet. "I'm glad to have you onboard." He winks at her and points towards a building, "I have a class. Gotta run!"
"Take care Elijah," Pascal calls out after the figure of the boy. She pauses and watches him disappear into the building, and /then/ remembers. "Shit," she mutters under her breath, then yells, "Thanks for my book!"
