Title: Wild Monkey Chase
Time: Sunday, April 11, 2004
The Thespians: Faya Thor and Pascal Curio
Location: Scattergood Grounds - Mountain Lake

Notes: This was a day of nice light fluffy (not in that sense, DAMMIT!) RP. This sort of thing makes me happy. Angst is nice. In very minute small doses... or if it's been previously discussed or something.
+---[ Scattergood Grounds - Mountain Lake ]----------------------------------+

A crystal-clear mountain lake laps its waters up against its shoreline,
stretching out in an immense expanse to cover a good portion of land. The
water's edge holds various terrains, at one point it splashes gently upon
a sandy beach, another a grassy bank stands a foot above the pool; large
rocks are scattered here and there to sit upon, including partially
immersed in the water, as well as large trees of various types that
provide shading. On the eastern edge of the lake a daunting forest grows
right up to the tarn's edge, and there visible a small river merges with
the lake, coming at an odd angle from the north. The dirt path that cuts
through the area seems to stop about here, becoming so overgrown by
grasses that it no longer is visible.

+----------------------------------------------------------------------------+
It may be almost the middle of May, but it's still rather chilly outside. The sun shines down on the mountain lake, but hardly offers any warmth. An occasional breeze flits through the area, causing small ripples to form on the lake's surface, as well as green ripples through the grass. Pascal Curio is seen at the shore of the lake, seated indian-style on a rock facing the lake. She's hunched over something, and her bag sits next to the rock, quite neglected. Every so often the teenage girl sits up to throw a rock into the lake, watching it skip before it sinks to depths unknown. Then she resumes her hunched over position.
Soft footsteps on the grass announce the arrival of Faya Thor. The girl strolls towards the lake, a small smile gracing her lips and a thoughful expression in her eyes. A breeze blows her hair into her face, and one hand reaches up to pull it back as she gazes across the water. Spotting the nearby figure of Pascal, Faya calls out a cheerful greeting: "Hello!"
Grumble. Not exactly too dark though, Pascal was still relishing the little prank she pulled with Colby in the library. She /was/ hunched over a book, and as she sits up straight, another rock skips into the lake, and the book snaps shut curtly. Pascal turns her head around slightly and stretches out her back slowly, letting her eyes gaze over Faya's form. "Hello." She turns herself the whole way around now, and lets her legs dangle over the side of the rock. "Fancy meeting you here." Now, if only she could remember the girl's name.
Stopping a few feet from Pascal, Faya studies the older girl's face for a moment. "What'cha doing?" she asks, peering at the book curiously. As an afterthought, the girl adds, "I'm Faya." Just then, a rustling of leaves causes Faya to look up at the branches of a tree growing a few yards to her right. Her eyes narrow before she turns her attention back to Pascal.
"Reading up on my potions," Pascal says coolly, sliding the book from the rock and back into her bag. She paused and waited for the sound of her book to hit the bottom of the bag, and when it did, she allowed a light smile to curve her face. She brought her legs back up and crossed then indian-style again. "Finals are coming up," she says lightly, taking a casual look at her fingernails. The rustling of the leaves was for the most part, ignored, and Pascal pushes onward. "Why aren't you studying?"
Something about Pascal's smile made Faya want to believe that the other girl wasn't being completely honest, but even that was the case, it wasn't really her business anyways. In response to the question of studying, Faya bites her lip. "I, um..." She really -should- be studying, but the thought of doing such a thing when one could be taking a pleasant stroll around the grounds was enough to make the girl 'accidentally' forget about the studying that needed to be done. "I was just taking a break...I can't stand being cooped up in the Library for too long," Faya offers. It's a lame excuse, and she knows it. The girl gives a small, slightly nervous laugh in attempt to cover up the situation, while she avoids looking Pascal in the eye.
"Right," Pascal says, her voice silky and sweet. Though combined with the disbelieving expression on her face, her green eyes narrowed and lips pressed in a thin line, the sound of her voice could only make it more uncomfortable. "I thought students around here were usually mad about their studies," she continues, leaning forward to rest her chin in her palms. Her eyes never leaving Faya's face even as the younger girl avoided eye contact. "Everyone so obsessed with the library, and studying, and being the better student." Pascal rolls her eyes, shifting her weight just slightly as she went along. "You know, you really shouldn't let the good weather tempt you." And now she just sounds patronizing. "Why not, bring a book out and study in the sun then?"
This time, Faya is ready with an answer. "Too many distractions," she says. "I wouldn't be able to study outside." Her eyes, which had been wandering, now come to rest upon Pascal's face again. This time, she stares defiantly at Pascal, as if daring the girl to challenge what she says. The tree rustles again, and a small animal, golden-brown in color, scampers down the trunk to hide behind a rock, but Faya keeps her attention focused on Pascal.
"You're right about that," Pascal says calmly, tapping the side of her cheek with her fingers. She tilts her head to the side and continues to stare at Faya. "It takes a certain type of person to be able to tune out the distractions of the outside world, and study, in the sun, outside." A faint smirk curves her lips, but she won't let Faya challenge that. "Clearly I'm not that type of person, now, am I?" And then, she smiles. Still doesn't quite reach her eyes, but at least she smiles.
"So what -are- you doing?" Faya asks, turning her head to look sideways at the other girl. Out of the corner of her eye, she sees movement as the brown head of a small monkey pokes out from behind the rock. Head whips around to stare at the rock, but the animal's face has gone from sight. "Biffer?" she calls out, taking a few steps towards the place where she'd caught a glimpse of the monkey.
Pascal doesn't answer right away; the arrival of a... monkey? is enough to attract her attention away. Her head whips about quickly so that she looks where Faya was looking before, and her green eyes narrow as she looks for any sight of the animal as well. Still not looking at Faya, she says curtly. "Well, I /was/ studying for my potions. But then I was distracted." She stops there and changes the subject. "What are you calling for?" Clearly she didn't see Biffer's head pop out.
"Shhhhh!" Faya says, not turning to look at Pascal. Her eyes are narrowed, peering at the place where the animal's head had popped up. The girl bends her knees and creeps quietly foward, trying not to make any noise. A few feet away from the rock, she pauses and then suddenly lunges forward. "Gotcha!" Faya cries triumphantly, and for a moment a small brown monkey can be seen struggling in her arms. However, the animal manages to get out of the girl's grasp, and it wastes no time in darting away. It gives an excited squeak, eyes shining with mischief as it darts between Fayas legs and runs straight towards Pascal.
A monkey! Monkey monkey monkey monkey! Pascal's eyes light up in mirth though the rest of her expression remains stony while she watches Faya try and catch the monkey. She doesn't say much, and just uncrosses and crosses her legs again, stretching out slightly while she watches the younger girl do all of the grunt work. "So, how long have you had..." what was the animal's name... "Biffer for?" She manages to sneak that in between Faya crawling in the grass, and lunging at Biffer. Of course, when the animal breaks loose and starts running towards Pascal, her eyes widen, and really, she's not sure what to do. So she just sits there, stupidly.
"About three y- Grab him!" Pulling herself up fro the ground, Faya is in the middle of answering Pascal's question when she sees where her monkey is headed. Biffer, realizing that there's another person who might try to catch him, pauses in his mad dash to glance from Faya to Pascal, as if deciding which direction would be the best way to run. Really, this is all a game to him. As Faya near the animal with hands held out, ready to grab him, Biffer gives another delighted chirp and nimbly springs away from the girl, this time headed in a path that will take him around Pascal, as long as she doesn't move.
Dear god. This was supposed to be a day of quiet fun, and studying potions that she didn't actually need to study because they weren't on the school cirriculum. Pascal fights the amused expression off of her face, and looks sharply at Faya as the other girl just demands her to grab the monkey. But of course, in the same situation, Pascal would do the same and expect results. Reluctantly, she stands up from the rock, and with a sigh she jumps down from it, right in the path of the fleeing Biffer. "Alright you, monkey."
Biffer stops short when Pascal steps in to block his way. Hey, she wasn't supposed to do that! The animal seems indignant, but all the same, he is ready to admit defeat. Faya, a bit breathless, (chasing monkeys is hard work!) approaches Pascal and bends down to scoop up the monkey. He gives her a sulky look, but allows the girl to pick him up, rubbing his head against her shoulder affectionately. Once she is sure that Biffer is secure in her arms, Faya turns to Pascal. "Thanks," she says with a grin. "He's been a lot more trouble ever since he learned how to get out of the dorms," the girl adds, but she strokes the monkey fondly. Awww, well isn't this sweet?
As much as Pascal would like to retain the scowl on her face, it /is/ rather hard when she's standing in front of a girl who's showering her love on her animal. That and Pascal's just as disgustingly sweet with her own cat. She gives Faya a faint smile, still tight lipped, and takes a small step towards a pair. "He's cute," she comments casually, tilting her head to the side. "And I bet he /hates/ having to stay in the dorms anyway." A slight shrug and she smiles rather broadly at the monkey. "Out causing trouble, are ya?" Yes. She's going to recruit the monkey as her partner in crime. And then back to Faya. "Does he have his own bed and everything in your dorm?" PETA, here she comes.
"He sleeps in one of those animal baskets, and he has a special perch in my dorm," Faya replies. At Pascal's comment about making trouble, Biffer gives her an innocent look, as if to say, 'Who, me? Me, causing trouble?' Faya absently strokes the monkey as she continues, "I try to take him out when there aren't many people around; he gets really excited when there's a lot of people, and usually ends up causing a big mess." The girl shakes her head at the monkey, remembering such a time from a few years back. "Do you have a pet?" Faya turns to look at Pascal again, her expression curious.
As Pascal turns to pick up her bag from beside the rock, a smirk can be seen flitting over her face. She slings the bag over one arm, and then carefully snakes the other arm through the other sling. She stares longer at Biffer than she does at Faya, and chuckles slightly. "Maybe he just needs to be around people more, to get used to them." A shrug. "But whatever you think is best, of course." She runs her hand through her hair and nods affirmatively at Faya's question. "I've got a cat. His name is Samson. He doesn't spend much time in my dorm room though." Pascal's still talking to Faya as she sweeps by the girl and starts to walk away. "Anyway, I've got to get to class. Don't get into trouble now." Except, who's she saying that last sentence to? Faya? Biffer?
