JURASSIC PARK IV: Project Rebirth
Chapters: I, P, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7
Introduction: The Ingen Incident International Genetic Technologies, or InGen, was a dying company. After all the lawsuits from the families of the people killed Isla Nublar and Isla Sorna, InGen was nearly bankrupt. Seeing the their chance Biosyn bought Isla Nublar and everything on it under the name of Justin Reed, without InGen being any the wiser. 'Justin Reed' then sold Isla Nublar to Biosyn. After some under the table contracts Biosyn set out to reopen Jurassic Park....
Prologue: BioSyn's Invaluable Work Force Location: Laboratory, Main Compound, Isla Nublar; Date: 8-7-02 Lewis Dodgson walked through the door to the main genetics lab and stood in front of five young scientists. "What do you want?" muttered Dodgson when he entered the room. A dark haired girl spoke up, "We just wanted to know, sir, that when the park opens, will we be recognized for our work?” "Recognized!" Dodgson laughed. "You want to be recognized! Should've read the fine print lady,” said Dodson. "Now that the dinosaurs are made, plus the fact that I have Wu to inject them with the drug when I want them to breed, I don't need you anymore so get out of here!” shouted Dodgson "We'll get you for this Dodgson!" shouted a blonde boy as the scientists left for the helicopter pad. They are such idiots to think that after they made the dinosaurs we’re going to give them credit. Well, there was nothing they could do about it, thought Dodgson, as he strolled out of the room.
Different Company, Same Mistakes Location: Conference Room, Main Compound, Isla Nublar Date: 8-15-02 “Do you have the files?” asked Lewis Dodgson. “Yeah, want me to read them to you?” asked Dodgson’s assistant, Howard King. “Yes, you idiot what do you think I have you for?” replied Dodgson. “Yes, of course,” stuttered King. Then he started: “Jurassic Park Pre-opening Tour Team: Dr. Alan Grant, paleontology professor. Ian Malcolm, chaos professor. Ellie Sattler/ Degler, ex- paleobotanist. Timothy Murphy, paleontologist. Alexis Murphy, computer programmer. Eric Kirby, paleontology student. Roland Tembo, ex- big game hunter. Steve ‘Crocodile Hunter’ Irwin, animal show host. John Hammond, InGen CEO. Nick Van Owen, photographer. Robert Muldoon, ex- Jurassic Park ranger.” ”Ok, I trust that everyone that was on InGen’s original team is in that list?” said Dodgson. “Yes. The ones that survived, that is!” laughed King. “Dave is on his way I presume?” asked Dodgson. “Yes, of course sir” King replied. “Good” Dodgson said as he left the room. Location: Badlands, South Dakota, U.S.A. ; Date: 8-15-02 Alan Grant studied the raptor skeleton. It was in very good condition, it might even survive the excavation. If so it would be the first complete skeleton of a velociraptor ever found. That is if it was unlike the other skeleton, the one they found just before the Jurassic Park incident, and didn’t collapse when some rich college kid came in while he was gone and tried to dig it out of the ground when there wasn’t a pro around. A year’s worth of funding money down the drain. Well, he was going anywhere this time. Just then a truck pulled up. The door opened and one of Grant’s students jumped out. “Anything in the mail, Andy?” asked Grant “Yes Dr. Grant, a letter from a Richard Grams,” replied Andy. “Did you say Grams?” asked Grant. “Yes sir.” “That’s the guy who might fund us!” Grant grabbed envelope and tore it open. As he started to read it his face grew red. “Catch a plane to Isla Sorna! That son of a-” yelled Grant. “What’s wrong? He won’t fund us?” asked Andy. “He’s like a million other people who think paleontologists can just hitch a ride to Isla Sorna study dinosaurs there, but people don’t understand those dinosaurs or just Hammond’s creations,” explained Grant. “But isn’t that place restricted?” “Yeah, but no one pays any mind to it. I even went there once because someone offered to fund us.” “What happened to the money?” “They were fakes,” Grant said with finality in his voice so Andy didn’t pursue the subject. “Dr. Grant! By this new computer program we can tell if skeleton are strong enough to dig out, and the raptor skeleton looks like it will come out intact!” said a boy in a plaid shirt. “Really? Grant glanced at the computer screen. “ Even though I don’t trust computers, it does look like that. I suggest we go and have the biggest celebration we can on our limited budget!” he said to the crowd gathered around the computer screen. “ Alright!” shouted the paleontologists. Just then a black limousine pulled up. The driver got out and opened the door for a small white haired man with cane. Grant thought he looked familiar. “ Mr. Hammond what are you doing here?” asked Grant. “Alan, I need to speak with you,” said Hammond. “John, this isn’t the time-“ “It’s very urgent.” “Alright!” surrendered Grant. “Go to the diner in town. I’ll catch up later, ok?” Grant said to the other paleontologists. “So what is it you want to talk to me about?” “It about Jurassic Park. Some how Biosyn, InGen’s rival company, got their hands on Isla Nublar and plan to reopen Jurassic Park. Now later tomorrow you’re going to get a visit from a man representing Biosyn inviting you to go to Isla Nublar to be the one of the first to go on the tour-“ “John, you didn’t have to come I wouldn’t had went-“ “I want you to say yes.“ “What!?” “Alan, we can’t let them do this. I’ve already convinced the others to go-“ “Others?” “Ian, Ellie, Robert Muldoon, Eric Kirby, Roland Tembo, a person who my nephew hired to go to Isla Sorna, Nick Van Owen, a person who went to Isla Sorna for me, and my grandchildren who have already gotten visited by Biosyn and filled me in.” “I don’t know, John-“ “If you need convincing how crazy Biosyn is, they invited Steve Irwin, the Crocodile Hunter to go. Also, if you go I will fund your dig until you retire.” “ That nut will probably stick his head up a T-Rex’s mouth! Ok, John, I’ll go.” “Good” “John, could I ask you two questions?” “Shoot.” “Ok, number one, are you going? Number two, isn’t Muldoon supposed to be dead?” “Yes, A man named David visited me this morning and yes but it turns out he survived and I’ m sure he will tell you the fascinating story on the trip there.” Hammond said as he got back in the limo. Grant waved as it drove down the dusty road. As he waved Grant made a mental memo to himself to stop being a sucker for money. The very next day a man named David Clay came and invited Grant to go to an island and take the first tour through a ‘zoo’. He reluctantly agreed remembering of the raptor skeleton. The next day he boarded a plane to go to a Costa Rican hotel. When Grant got off the plane he took a deep breath and prepared to see every one again. Location: Hotel Ocho, San José, Costa Rica; Date: 8-17-02 Eric Kirby got off the plane. He couldn’t believe his parents had let him go. They probably hadn’t if Mr. Hammond hadn’t came and offered to buy back the Kirby Paint & Tile Plus from the bank and give them $20,000 dollars to start off with. Anyway here was getting off the plane to meet everyone else invited at a Hotel 8. Tomorrow he was supposed to board a helicopter to go to the island. He walked toward a Costa Rican man holding a sign saying ERIC KIRBY. “Are you Eric Kirby?” asked the man. “ Yeah,” replied Eric. “Follow me, sir” “I am Adam Jones, the chauffer scheduled to take you and another man to the Hotel Ocho.” “Who’s the other guy?” “A Mr. Alan Grant, who is waiting in the car.” replied Jones. “Alan Grant? How did Hammond get Mr. Grant to come here?” thought Eric. “Here is the car, sir,” said Jones as they arrived. Eric got in the car and turned to face the man next him. “Hello Mr. Grant I haven’t seen you for a while.” “Oh hi, Eric. When Mr. Jones said he was waiting for somebody else I wondered who it could be.” “Well, my parents let me go on two reasons. One, ” Mr. Hammond would buy back the Kirby Paint & Tile Plus from the bank and give them $20,000 dollars to start off with. Two, I had to get on the same flight as you.” “Eric, I can’t believe your parents let you come after what happened on Isla Sorna. “Well, you know how Dad is about that store and there would be electric fences and stuff right?” “No offense, but I see your parents are as ignorant as ever.” “Why Mr. Grant?” “Well you see Eric, the time I went to Nublar to review Jurassic Park, there was a man named Dennis Nedry who worked for Ingen as a programmer but Lewis Dodgson who worked for Biosyn paid Nedry to steal embryos for Biosyn. Well Nedry shut off the power and the dinosaurs got loose and- well, you know the rest.” “And you think it will happen this time?” “I know it will as Ian Malcolm put it ‘Life will find a way’.” “I thought you didn’t like Mr. Malcolm?” ”I don’t, but I always admit when people are right.” “Right now, I’m hoping you’re wrong.” said Eric as he leaned back. Location: Plane Over the Atlantic Ocean; Date: 8-17-02 Roland Tembo sat in a first class seat. Hammond didn’t do badly. He did very good compared to that cheap nephew of his. So far Tembo had been treated very well on the flight. Roland Tembo had been spending the years since the San Diego incident studying and preserving big-game animals rather than killing them. Tembo had been paid a generous sum of money to go on this will-be blood fest. The environmentalist career didn’t exactly pull in the big bucks. After this he could start funding environmentalists instead of being one. The main reason Tembo went on this trip is to stop this once and for all. He would make sure this island was destroyed and tell Hammond to destroy the other one even if he had to give Hammond all the money and possessions has. All for Ahjay. Location: Hotel Ocho, San José, Costa Rica' Date: 8-17-02 Tim and Alexis Murphy were unpacking their bags. Even now they weren’t sure they should’ve told their grandpa about the man. They could’ve just said no and they wouldn’t have to be going. But Lex had thought that if they could convince Biosyn to not open the park they could convince their grandpa to bomb Sorna. Lex managed to get the names of every person going. Then Lex had called Tim to tell him to say yes. Then she had called her grandpa to tell him about it. Her grandpa immediately called his private pilot and planned to stay just long enough to tell the man yes then drive to the airport to take the jet to every invitee. When they were unpacking, Tim spoke up, ”Lex, what day do we leave?” “The 20th. Do you ever think about not going?” “Yeah, then I remember what happened to Gennaro.” Location: Airport, Sydney, Australia; Date: 8-17-02 “Hon, are you sure you want to go?” asked Terry Irwin. “Sure, it’ll be a great publicity stunt. But if any dinosour tries to jump me I’ll just put him in one of my Aussie headlocks,” replied Steve. “Sure, those work on crocs! These are dinosaurs!” “I’ll be fine, luv, their all reptiles, just look after the dog.” Steve said as he boarded the plane. “Why try to talk him out of these things? And why does he always forget we have a kid?” Terry said to herself after the plane took off. Location: Hotel Ocho, San José, Costa Rica; Date: 8-7-02 Nick Van Owen fingered the disk in his pocket. Once again Hammond had given him a special task. As soon as the people convinced Biosyn to shut down the park, Nick would slip this disk into the computer and it would start an unstoppable three-hour count down. As soon as the timer ran out the files would be erased and the power would go off. The timer was to give every one on the island time to get off. Nick just hoped it was enough. He got up and went down to the bar to take his mind off things.
