Trying to explain Gundam is gonna be hard but I'll try so bear with me.
It's set in the future were humans live in space in a massive space station (divided into colonies) as well as earth. There are two main forces on Earth, The World Sphere Alliance and OZ (pronounced oz like ozzy not O.Z.). The World Sphere Alliance are trying to promote pacifism by uniting the world but in doing so they became a strong force and became feared. OZ began to oppose their large force and successfully did, and then OZ became feared. The Gundams were sent to earth by the colonies to protect them from OZ. So the Gundams appear on earth beating the crap out of OZ and there normal moble suits (consisting of LEO's, ARIES'S and CANCER's) when one of OZ's Generals Zecks Marqueese (also known as Miliardo Peacecraft) re-constructs the very first Gundam, The Tallgeese. It is superior to the new five gundams and nearly kill's Zecks in the test run due to its amazing speed and capabilities, he finally manages to use it and challenges Heero in the Gundam named WING (it's the main character and his suit, big hint in the name of this show) Zecks is just about winning in their battle but Lady Une (the personal assistant of Treize Qushranada who is the leader of OZ) threatens to blow up the colonies unless they surrender . the Gundams stop fighting but Heero is told by the maker of his gundam to self detonate so OZ don't get Wing. After this battle Heero is thought to be dead but Zecks takes him and the remaining parts of Wing. He makes sure Heero returns to full health and Wing is re-constructed so he can battle him. Another strong force on Earth is the Rommefeller foundation, they were sor6t of allies to OZ and ask Treize to make Zecks destroy the parts he has of Wing, but instead Zecks destroys his own Tallgeese part's disguising them as Wing parts. Zecks decides for them to have their battle in the north pole but as they get attacked the battle does not get fought properly with Heero fighting in the Heavyarms (Trowa's Gundam) instead of the Wing. the battle is cut short by Rommefeller troops and it leads on from there.
to cut the story short I'll quickly explain the rest 'cause i can't be bothered to do it properly
then after they realize that fighting on earth is useless as OZ would destroy the colonies they go to fight in space but Quatre (pilot of the Gundam Sandrock) sacrifices his gundam to fight the OZ troops trying to stop them. In space most of the pilots get caught by OZ and Trowa joins the OZ force's which takes everyone by surprise (but later they find out he was just spying on OZ from the inside). Also the five scientist who made the Gundams are captured by OZ and are forced to make to new gundams for OZ. they make the Mercruis a gundam with an electro magnetic force field protecting it, and the Vayate a gundam with a massive powerful gun that shoots enormous amounts of energy that only the Mercruis can defend against (incase one of them is taken over the other suit is equal in strength). Then the OZ spaceship (the one that the Gundam pilots are in and the scientist) is attacked by a new gundam....Wing Zero (I should mention now that the Wing and Deathscyth had been destroyed) the Wing Zero is a Gundam that is stronger then even the Tallgeese and has this computer system that inputs so much battle data to the pilot that they will start to hallucinate and see everyone as their enemy (it's really cool 'cause the pilot goes crazy as he destroys anything that moves (actually half the things they shoot probably weren't even moving (like the scenery). Anyway Quatre is going to destroy the spaceship so Trowa in the Vayate and Heero in the Mercruis go to destroy it. There's a big battle and Quatre shoot's Trowa making his Gundam overload and it blows up (again i should mention Quatre is crazy at the moment because of Wing Zero's computer system) Heero dives into Quatre crashing him into the spaceships docking bay. Then Heero stars piloting Wing Zero, they all split up. Trowa luckily survives the attack but has amnesia. one of Trowa's friends from the circus (Trowa has a cover as a clown) called Catharine take's advantage of this and say's that she is his sister so he would listen to her and stop fighting. While Duo (pilot of Deathscyth) stop's fighting and hangs out with this lady named Hilde. Quatre joins Noin ,assistant of Zecks, as they fight both Rommefeller and OZ , Wufei is fighting OZ and Rommefeller in space, and Heero is on Earth protecting the Sank kingdom. Also at this time Zecks is asked to kill himself for OZ by Treize but Zecks fakes his death and start's fighting as Miliardo Peacecraft in the Tallgeese and joins the Scientists who built the Gundams in there own ship the "Peace Million" and become quit a strong force in space. OZ come to a demise as Rommefeller become a stronger force and Treize go's into hiding. By the way i should mention another character, Her name is ***** and she's Zecks sister also leader of the Sank kingdom as her father was assassinated by Lady Une and is the main figure head of Pacifism on earth, and there's a love interest between her and Heero). After this Rommefeller is a strong force and again pose a threat to peace so the Gundam pilots start fighting them. everyone of them who's Gundams have been destroyed get there Gundams rebuilt (apart from Heero who starts using the Wing zero and Wufei as his Shenlong (or "Nataku") was destroyed when he tried destroying the Barge space ship (which is actually a massive floating laser gun) one of the scientist make's him a new Shenlong, which is turquoise he has a sort of laser spear as a weapon and both arms can do the dragon breath thing. After the Barge is destroyed, Heero back on Earth finds Treize and Treize gives him a new Gundam, the Epyon, it has a powerful whip, it's laser sword is larger then the usual one's and when it flies it turns into a dragon-like jet (by the way Wing and Wing zero can turn into these bird-like jets when they fly off) and Zecks starts using the Wing Zero. After Rommefeller attack the Sank kingdom Heero and treize have an explosive battle using the Gundam's which finish's with both of them exhausted. Then they swap Gundam's as Heero fight's the Rommefeller force's. Then a new force appears, the White Fang a group of terrorist's from the colonies that oppose Rommefeller. Zecks joins them and they build the Libra, a space station that has a very large laser cannon on it. Zecks plan's to use it to start a war that will have such a loss it would end all war's, by firing it at Earth , the effects would destroy Earth's echo system and would kill of most of the inhabitants of Earth. All the Gundam pilots with either there new Gundam's or Rebuilt one's attack the Libra and the Rommefeller foundation attack as well but with Treize as there new leader. In the end the Libra is blown up but it start's falling towards Earth and if it hit's the earth it could easily destroy everyone alive on the planet. Zecks blows up the Epyon in hope's of stopping it but fails and kills himself . it's up to Heero to stop it so he turns into bird jet mode and flies into the earth's atmosphere turns back and shoot's the Libra with his laser guns. It Blow's the Libra away ending the series
This anime has some of the greatest action but it lacks in style even though the animation is great and the action is well, explosive. The thing is it just doesn't have enough background music to help the atmosphere giving the editors an amazingly hard job to make it as good as it is. Also some of there move's are just impossible to do, like jumping in the air and do like 10 somersaults really quickly. but all round a good anime.
