You know the feeling when you've got absolutely nothing to do? Well on Thursday 28th July, Me and Iain were feeling it. After much deliberation as to how to combat the boredom, I came up with the idea of cooking something. Eventually it was decided...we'd make a Pub Cake!
We found a recipe on the internet, printed it off, and discovered we had only 4 of the ingredients : Flour, Eggs, Sugar and Baking Soda! Problem, easily solved however by replacing all the other ingredients with 'similar' items from around the home.
Needless to say, we had a large supply of beer, so this helped to compensate for the lack of the other ingredients. Eventually we had a pretty good cake batter, full of things that you can find in any pub e.g. crisps, peanuts, beer...and also some random stuff that we just felt like adding in!
Then came the cooking stage. All that was left was to wham it in the oven for an hour and enjoy the results!
Oh how confident he looks...little did we know that we were putting our tin of blood, sweat and tears into an oven that was twice as hot as it should have been, for twice as long as required!
Censors have not permitted us to show what came out of that oven...
The fact that our 'cakes' ended up looking like pavement slabs was irrelevant, we still ate those beauties, and enjoyed them too! We found the huge amount of alcohol in the cakes was enough to disguise the concrete taste!
And so concludes our story, we ate the cakes, they tasted awful. But its not the end product that counts, it's the fact that we had used up 3 hours of a very boring day! Conclusion : Success!
