Gohan has been training since he defeated Cell, and is still the strongest (he is able to go SSJ3 at a higher level then Goku). And has started High School as a freshman. Videl did not seem to like Gohan at first, but by the end of the year they are friends. He teaches her how to fly, fire ki blasts, detect ki, etc… In a way these are kind of unofficial dates.

This fic starts in early May towards the end of their sophomore year. Gohan and Videl are sixteen, and while good friends they have yet to really admit their feelings towards each other.

The 25^th Tenkaichi Budokai is being held, and everything up until the point where Buu is released is the same (except that the Z-Senshi don’t have to be quite as careful of what they say around Videl since she knows all about Saiya-jins and things). Goku, Vegeta, and Gohan fight Buu. Goku uses up too much power and returns to the other world and Vegeta has been knocked out, so the fight comes down to just Gohan and Buu. Korin, Piccolo, Yamcha, Ox-king, Chi-Chi, Krillin, Bulma, Trunks, Goten, and Videl are on Korin’s Tower.

‘How can this…this…thing be so powerful.’ Thinks Gohan as he tries to figure out a way to kill Buu while defending himself from the evil monstrosity.

Gohan throws another volley of punches and kicks at the pink blob. ‘Every time I attack him he just regenerates.’ He thinks as Buu’s body returns to its original shape.

"You a fun play toy. Buu like you." The pink blob says while smiling wickedly.

‘I have tried everything I can think to destroy this thing…everything except one…but I don’t know if it will stop this monstrosity…’ Gohan thinks as he tries to block an energy blast but it is too powerful and it sends him careening into the ground.

"Oops, did Buu hurt you?" Buu asks while laughing.

"Buu, you will die by my hands, even if I must die to carry out your destruction." Gohan says coldly while wiping away the blood trickling from the corner of his mouth.

"OOOOO…Buu scared now." The pink blob of goo retorts sarcastically.

Gohan, ignoring Buu’s mocking tone, starts to gather all his remaining energy for one last, desperate, attack.

Gohan’s friends and family have gathered together on top of Korin’s tower as they await the outcome of his fight with Buu.

The heads of Korin, Piccolo, Yamcha, and Krillin snap up as an unearthly silence settles over the group of people. Korin and Piccolo are shocked at feeling the energy that Gohan is gathering for they have some idea of what Gohan is planning to do. Everyone looks at the three with a questioning look on their faces. To those who can sense ki it looks like Gohan is just powering up another attack, while those who can not sense ki want to know what is going on.

Videl is the first to break the silence. "What’s wrong Piccolo? Gohan’s just charging another attack isn’t he?"

"Gohan…he…he…" Krillin starts, but is unable to say what Gohan is really doing.

"He’s powering up for one final attack against Buu…the ultimate attack which he, which anyone, can carry out." Piccolo says when he sees that Krillin is too choked up to continue. So of those there do not want to believe it, but Piccolo’s voice was an odd mixture of shock and sadness since and this drove the dreadful thought into reality for the Namekian rarely shows any emotion.

Chi-Chi is the first one to break down into tears upon hearing the news. "First Goku…now Gohan…why do all those I care about die…why…"

Goten, not quite understanding what Piccolo is saying, looks towards his mother. But when he sees how she is reacting to the news he realizes that his brother will not be coming back from the fight and runs to her in tears.

As what Piccolo said begins to sink in Bulma starts to cry as well, for Gohan has been like a son to her.

Trunks slowly walks over to his mother as silent tears fall from his eyes.

"What do you mean ultimate attack? Isn’t the strongest attack he can do the Kamehameha?" Videl asks, not wanting to believe what the others are implying.

"Normally yes…but there is one attack which anyone can carry out…but it is an attack that can only be used once for the person must gather all of their energy and release in one big attack." Piccolo somberly answers her. "And with all of his energy put into the attack…"

"You…you mean…that he…he’s going to…to…" Videl stutters before she falls to her knees in tears. All she can think to do is focus her ki sense on Gohan’s energy, which feels like a warm beacon of light, as it continues to grow.

Buu, not realizing what Gohan is planning, just stands there. Gohan’s energy peaks as he suddenly appears behind Buu. Gohan wraps his arms around him as he detonates all the energy he was gathered. Gohan uses the last splits seconds of his mortal existence to focus the blast away from the Earth so that he does not destroy the planet in this final attack.

‘Mom, Goten, I’m sorry that I am leaving you two…but there’s no other way to stop this thing. Videl, please try understand why I’m doing this. I love you all…’ Gohan thinks as the blast consumes him and, the pink abomination, Majin Buu.

Suddenly those who can sense ki feel Gohan’s peek then disappear. Far in the distance they see the sky fill with the blinding light of Gohan’s final attack. The tower shakes slightly as the shock wave from Gohan’s final desperate act to save the universe from the creature known as Majin Buu pass by it as everyone there is mourning Gohan’s loss. For most it is a loss of a close friend. For one it is the loss of her first son. For one it is the loss of a brother. And for one it is the loss of a love not yet admitted.

Upon feeling Gohan’s wink out of existence Videl falls to her knees as tears stream from her eyes. "No he…he…he’s…no he can’t be… there’s so much…so much we haven’t done…so much we…we haven’t said…so much we haven’t…ex …experienced…" Videl says between sobs as her entire body shakes with the violent outpouring of her grief. "He can’t be gone…he’s the one…one person that’s brought…brought joy to my life since my mother’s death. He’s the one person that I…I care about more then anything else…and now…I don’t know what I’ll do…without him in my life…he has been my one…and…only true friend. With him gone I fell as though part of me is gone…" Is all that can be made out before her voice becomes too soft to hear mixed in with her sobs.

‘Why Gohan…you could have retreated and we could have used the Dragon Balls to bring Goku back and then he…that’s it.’ Chi-Chi thinks, suddenly remembering that they can bring Gohan back to life with the Dragon Balls. This realization calms her some, and she notices the state which Videl is in. ‘I knew that they were close, but I didn’t think that…the bond…it must have started to form. The poor girl must be completely heart broken.’ She thinks as she kneels down next to Videl while still holding Goten.

"Vi…Videl…I know how you’re feeling right now…and I’m sorry that you must feel such pain…but Gohan will be back within a week…he will be here, with you, again." Chi-Chi says while resting a hand on the girls shaking back, trying to comfort the young woman beside her.

After a minute or so Videl composes herself enough to be able to talk. "What do you mean he’ll be back? He’s…dead. A person can’t come back…" She says while tears of grief and pain over Gohan’s death fall from her eyes.

"Gohan told you about the Dragon Balls didn’t he?" Chi-Chi asks, a slight smile on her face despite her just losing her first born and her husband returning to the afterlife.

"Yeah, he did. He said that they have the power to grant wishes, they can even bring people back from the… You mean they’re real? And that they can really bring him back to life?" Videl says, the flow of tears down her face almost stopping as her expression brightens.

"Yes…and all we have to do is wait long enough for them to be collected and then we can wish Gohan back to life." At this Videl’s tears from her eye’s flow heavily once again, but this time it is for joy not grief. After a few minutes she stops crying and wipes her face with her sleeve. "Then what are we standing around here for? Let’s go get those Dragon Balls." Videl says.

The days pass somewhat quickly for some of the Z-Senshi since they are busy finding the seven Dragon Balls, but this has not been the case for Videl. She has been living at the Son home since leaving Korin’s Tower. Videl has been helping Chi-Chi with Goten as well as Chi-Chi helping her cope with Gohan’s temporary absence from the world of the living. For her the days pass slowly and are filled with constant sorrow and heartache, for even though she knows that Gohan will soon be back that knowledge is unable to fill the void inside her heart.

Three days after Gohan’s death they receive news that the final Dragon Ball has been found and Chi-Chi, Goten, and Videl, along with the Z-Senshi, gather at Kami’s Lookout to wish Gohan back to life.

Seeing that everyone is present Dende sits the seven Dragon Balls on the ground, six in a circle with the seventh in the center. "Arise Dragon!" He shouts towards the quickly darkening sky as lightning streaks from the black clouds and strikes the Dragon Balls. As the lightning changes into the form of a Dragon one can hear, "Beware he who summoned me, for you can make two wishes and they will come true."

Dende sheepishly turns his friends; "Um…oops…did anyone here remember to come up with a second wish?"

"No" "Nope" "Humph"…and other similar responses come from most in the group. Videl is the only one that did not reply since she is thinking about what the second wish can be used for.

"I’ve got it, I know what the second wish can be used for."

"What are you going to use it for?" Asks Chi-Chi, while the others look at her in curiosity.

"Umm…that’s a secret for right now, but I think you will all like it." She replies, smiling.

"Videl, would you like to make the wishes?" Asks Dende.

"Alright." She simply replies as she takes a few uneasy steps towards the Dragon.

"Umm…ok. I wish for you to bring Son Gohan back to life." Videl says, then holds her breath as she silently prays for Gohan to be returned to her.

Upon hearing the wish the dragon’s eyes glow red. "Your wish has been granted." The dragon says as Gohan almost immediately appears in front of the group. Everyone restrains themselves from running up to him so that he and Videl can have a few minutes alone. Of course Goten and Trunks have to be held back so they will not spoil the moment for the young couple.

Everyone there is happy to see him, although you can not tell this by simply looking at all those present. Videl is the first to him, and she jumps on to him. Gohan easily catches her in his arms and they share a long passionate kiss.

At seeing this they all, except for Vegeta and Piccolo, can not help but think how cute the scene before them is. And the only thought running through Chi-Chi’s head is, of course, ‘grandchildren-grandchildren-grandchildren- grandchildren…’ over and over again.

When they break apart, "Gohan, DON’T YOU EVER DO THAT TO ME AGAIN!" Videl screams in his face as she sheds tears of joy at having him back. Everyone there can not help but flinch at the volume of her voice while smiling at the cute seen.

"I’m sorry Videl, if there had been any other way I could have defeated him…then I wouldn’t have done that." He replies with a sorrowful look to his face. "But, that is in the past now, so lets put that behind us…"

"What is your second wish?" The Dragon asks, interrupting Gohan and Videl’s conversation.

"Videl, I hate to interrupt, but what did you have in mind for the second wish?" Dende questions her.

"Well…you guys will find out soon enough." Videl then whispers something in Gohan’s ear causing his face to light up with joy, but his look quickly saddens and he whispers something back to her. They continue to whisper back and forth for a minute before they pull apart. Gohan quickly grabs the Dragon Radar before going back to Videl’s side.

"I wish for Gohan and myself to be on New Namek." Videl says before anyone has a chance to question them about what they talked about.

Most look confused as to why they would make such a wish while Dende and Piccolo smile some since they were able to hear pieces of the hushed conversation. The others look at them strangely.

Hey, what are you two smiling about?" Krillin says.

"Because we have an idea about what Gohan and Videl are doing. And I’d have to agree with Videl about us liking it." Dende says while the smile instantly disappears from Piccolo’s face upon his hearing Krillin.

A group of Nameks look up in surprise as two people suddenly appear in the middle of their small village. The news of the arrival of the two strangers quickly spreads and the elder soon arrives. When the elder sees the two strangers he is surprised when one of them greets him.

"Hi Muri, it’s good to see you again."

"Gohan? Is that really you? You’ve really grown since I last saw you." Muri says, surprised that the young man before him is the young boy who helped save his people from Frieza.

"Yeah, it’s me." Gohan says with a smile.

"Who’s your friend? Is she…what do they call them?…oh yeah…is she your girlfriend?" Muri asks, seeing the young lady standing beside Gohan and not recognizing her.

"Muri, this is Videl. Videl, this is Muri. And yes, I guess she is my girlfriend." Gohan says, causing Videl and himself to blush a little.

"Hello." "Hi." Muri and Videl say as they shake hands.

"So what brings you two here? I assume you need to use our Dragon Balls." Muri says, turning back to Gohan.

"Yeah, we want to wish my father back to life. I hope you don’t mind."

"Of course we don’t mind. In fact, we already gathered the Dragon Balls for you since we sensed what was happening on Earth." Muri says as a group of Nameks, carrying the seven Dragon Balls, approach.

The Nameks gently place the Dragon Balls on the ground and arrange them before stepping back so that their elder can summon the eternal dragon. Muri raises his arms over the Dragon Balls and, in a language only the other Nameks there can understand, summons the dragon. The sky fills with dark foreboding clouds as day seems to turn into night. Lightning descends from the clouds to strike the Dragon Balls. The bolts of white hot light change and reveal the eternal dragon. Videl stares, awed by the shear size of the dragon compared to the one on Earth, as Muri makes the wish to bring Goku back to life.

Almost instantly Goku appears beside the group. As everyone is greeting the resurrected hero the dragon grows impatient and asks for their next wish.

"Umm…do you have any wishes because we didn’t have any except for that one." Gohan says to Muri while scratching his head.

"I think we can find something to wish for." Muri says. "And I’m sure there are people back on Earth that will happy to see you alive again Goku." He says, turning to the savior of the Namekian race.

"Yea, we better be going. It was good seeing you all again. Come on you two, let’s go home." Goku says as Gohan and Videl grab his arm. And as suddenly as they had appeared in the village, they leave.

The hushed conversations that those atop Kami’s Lookout had settled into after Gohan and Videl left cease when they along with a third person suddenly appear. Everyone stares in shocked silence for several seconds, hopping that what they are seeing is not a dream or someone’s cruel idea of joke.

"Hey guys! I’m back!" Goku says.

The reaction from his friends and family is instant. Except for the three stoic people there, they all rush to welcome him back. But Chi-Chi beats them all, and is the first to reach him.

"Goku! You’re back!" Chi-Chi exclaims as she jumps into Goku’s arms and kisses him while tears of joy fall from her eyes.

"Yea, I am Chi. Hopefully for good this time." He says with a smile while hugging his wife and bondmate.

The reunited couple pulls apart the others get a chance to greet their friend. Several hours pass as they all talk about what has happened since Goku chose to stay in Other World. Goku is surprised somewhat when he finds out that his thoughts about Gohan and Videl’s relationship being more then simple friendship are true.

Soon it begins to grow dark as the sun begins to set. Saying their good-byes everyone heads to their homes. As they leave some of the Z-Senshi realize, with some amusement, that Gohan and Videl have not left each other’s side since returning from New Namek.

Goten is sent off to bed soon after they arrive back at the Son home. Goku and Chi-Chi go to bed shortly after Goten does. This leaves Gohan and Videl as the only ones up. As they sit in front of the fire Goku had started Gohan can sense that something is troubling Videl.

"Videl, what’s wrong?" He asks, concern in his voice and expression as he looks into her eyes.

"When you…when they said that…" Videl stumbles over what to say as tears come to her eyes but do not fall. Gohan starts to say something but she stops him. "When I no longer felt your energy…I…I couldn’t believe that you were gone and that I never…" She says, the tears slipping from her eyes.

"You never what?" Gohan says softly as he gently wipes the tears from her cheeks with his hand.

"That I…never told you that…that I love you." She says while looking down at the cushions on the couch, afraid of how Gohan will react.

Gohan raises her chin so that he can look into her eyes once more. "I love you too." He says softly before gently brushing his lips against hers. In the brief moment of contact they feel as though a wave of pleasure surges through them like a jolt of electricity. They can both feel their own pleasure and joy from the brief kiss reflected in the other’s emotions and thoughts. Gohan pulls back only for a moment before he kisses her again, this time the kiss deepens and becomes fueled by passion as they release all the bottled up feelings they have for one another. As if by some unspoken agreement they silently go to Gohan’s room where, in a night filled with passion, they complete their bond. As they lay there, falling asleep in each other’s arms, they know that they will always, and forever, be together.

The next morning, as the sky is just beginning to lighten Goku wakes up to find Chi-Chi sleeping peacefully, her head resting on his chest. The site of her there reminds him that what had happened the previous day was not some lovely dream, but reality.

Feeling an urge to spar and spend time with his sons, he pushes aside the equally strong urge to stay there in bed with Chi-Chi, and gently moves her off of his chest. He feels a pang of regret as he sees Chi-Chi frown slightly in her sleep.

Getting up he goes down the hall to Gohan’s room to get him up for an early morning spar. When he opens the door it takes his eyes a few seconds to adjust to the lower level of light in the room compared to the hallway. As his eyes adjust he is a bit surprised, but at the same time can not help but smile, at the site of Gohan and Videl lying together on the bed, Gohan’s arms wrapped protectively around Videl.

Goku hesitates for a second before he walks over to the bed. In the dim light filtering through into the room through the window Goku is able to make out the bite mark on his son’s shoulder. With a smirk he as to the events that had transpired during the night, resulting in Gohan and Videl bonding he silently closes the door as he leaves the room since he knows that Gohan will not want to spar.

As he is closing the door he comes to the conclusion that he would rather go back to bed and spend time with his wife, and bondmate, then go and train since that has been all he has done for five years. Quietly slipping back into his room he lies back down in his bed then moves Chi-Chi so her head is once again resting on his chest. Almost instantly her frown is replaced be a smile. When he wraps an arm around his wife he feels her sigh contentedly in her sleep as he drifts back to sleep for a few more hours.

As Gohan awakens he becomes aware of something, or rather someone, resting against him. Opening his eyes he sees Videl resting comfortably against him. While he is starring at her he is unable to stop himself from smiling. As he watches her she starts to stir. When she slowly opens her eyes she sees Gohan looking at her, a smile on his face which she can not help returning.

While they lay there enjoying each other’s company the smell of food cooking begins to filter into the bedroom. Both would like to continue to lie there, but the rumble from Gohan’s stomach tells them otherwise. As they go to get out of bed they stop, realizing that neither of them has on any clothes. With a little laugh as they remember what they had just done before falling asleep, they get out of bed. After getting dressed they go to the kitchen where they see Goku and Goten sitting at the table while Chi-Chi is busy at the stove cooking.

"Good morning." Goku says, a smile on his face.

"What did you two do last night after we went to bed? Should I be expecting grandchildren?" Chi-Chi asks as she flips some pancakes.

Gohan and Videl both turn a bit red at the comment. "All we did was talk." Gohan says a bit too quickly causing Goku to laugh.

"Maybe we should be Chi. When I got up earlier I went to see if Gohan wanted to go spar. I saw the bite mark on Gohan’s shoulder so I went back to bed. So when’s the wedding?" Goku says, ignoring a pleading look from his son and causing his wife to drop her spatula.

"So’s this mean you’s getting married and that Videl’s my new sister?" Goten asks.

"No, they can’t get married they’re… They did what?!" Chi-Chi yells, realizing what Goku had said while ignoring the fallen cooking utensil.

"Why can’t they get married Chi? You wanted to marry me when we were thirteen. And you’re always talking about grandchildren and I’m pretty sure you know…OUCH!" What was that for?" Goku asks, rubbing his head where it met Chi-Chi’s frying pan for the first time in five years.

"Daddy got hit by the fry pan!" Goten says while laughing.

::Come on, let’s get out of here before she remembers we’re here too.:: Gohan says through their bond as he leads Videl into the living room while Chi-Chi is yelling at Goku. Both can not help but enjoy it since they have missed each other greatly and, fighting or not, they are glad to be back together. Poor little Goten just looks around confused as to what is going on.

Several days pass and it seems as though all too soon Gohan and Videl must return to school, though it is not too bad since they only have a couple of weeks left until the end of the school year. Videl has been living at the Son home since they returned from New Namek several days ago. Her father, while not happy with it, is allowing her to stay there since he is away on a world tour for a couple of months to celebrate his win in the Tenkaichi Budokai.

As they walk into the classroom they get a few surprised looks from their fellow students, not so much because they’re back, but because they are holding hands. Gohan and Videl walk up to their seats and see that Sharpner and Erasa are sitting next to each other.

"Where have you guys been? And why are you holding hands?" Erasa asks right as Gohan and Videl sit down.

"We’ve been busy with things at home. And we’re holding hands because…" Gohan says, but is interrupted by Erasa.

"You finally asked Videl out." She says, more as a statement of fact then a question.

"Umm…well…" He starts, but this time is interrupted by Videl.

"Yes he did." She says with a smile. ::I don’t think she needs to know anything more. And knowing you, you probably would have told her everything.:: Videl says through their bond.

::Hey, just because…I guess you’re right, I probably would have told her more then that.:: Gohan replies.

As they continue to talk they find out that Sharpner had asked Erasa out, and that they are now dating are going to go to the prom together. Erasa looks disappointed when Videl says they are not going to the prom. She only says this because she knows that if she said they were going then Erasa would drag her out dress shopping. And that is something she does not want to happen.

The news that Gohan and Videl are dating quickly spreads through the school. And by the end of the day everyone knows. For some this news is not really surprising since they have seemed to be closer then a simple friendship since the beginning of the school year.

The days pass quickly in a flurry of activity in preparation for prom and the end of the school year. Bulma and Chi-Chi helped Videl find a dress for the prom while Yamcha helped Gohan find a tux.

After they get ready for the prom they fly to Satan City and have a nice dinner in the most exclusive restaurant in town, thanks to Bulma who made the reservations for them. While there Gohan almost eats like a normal human since he ate before they left his home. Videl can not help but laugh a little at the sight of Gohan eating like a normal human since he usually shovels food into his mouth at an inhuman rate. Once they finish dinner Gohan pays for the meal and they go outside to a waiting limo.

The sight of a limo driving up causes a bit of a stir amongst the students since it is not something they expected to see do to the expense. Among those watching to see who gets out of the limo are Sharpner and Erasa. When Gohan and Videl emerge from the limo Erasa gasps since both of her friends had said repeatedly that they were not coming.

"Hi Erasa, Sharpner." Gohan and Videl say when they walk over to their friends.

"Hi." Sharpner says simply.

"I wasn’t expecting you guys to show up. You had me convinced that you weren’t coming." Erasa says, getting over her surprise a little.

"Good, that was the idea. I knew that you would force me to go dress shopping for an entire day if I told you we were coming here." Videl says with a slight smirk.

"Hey! That’s not true. You know that the stores aren’t open ALL day." Erasa says while glaring at Videl. Resulting in laughter from her three friends.

"You know what I mean Erasa." Videl says as she and Gohan walk off to the gym. Sharpner and Erasa catch up to them and they walk the rest of the way together.

When they walk into the gym they see that no one is dancing yet. Getting something to drink the four find a table and talk. After a few minutes of chatting with their friends Gohan and Videl get up and start to dance. As they are dancing Sharpner and Erasa join them, who are soon followed by some of the other couples there. While Gohan and Videl are dancing they refuse any offer to dance with someone else. All the songs played seem to fit the night perfectly. While they are dancing towards the end of the night the DJ puts on a song that, to Gohan and Videl, holds more meaning then any of the other songs that have been played.

As it starts Videl can not help but rest her head on Gohan’s chest while silent tears, caused by the memories of a those three days a few weeks past, roll down her. Gohan can feel her sadness through their bond but does not ask what is upsetting her for inside he knows that her sadness is being caused by the lyrics of the song being played. As he himself listens to the music he can not help but feel the same way as his bondmate.

‘Those three days…just three days in my life…seemed to be the longest and hardest I have ever been through.’ Videl thinks as she remembers those days spent at the Son home while waiting for the Dragon Balls to be gathered so Gohan could be wished back from the dead.

‘All I could think about was Gohan and how he was, or rather is, my first true friend even though for the better part of a year I wasn’t very kind to him. He never held it against me like most people would. He’s also the first person I’ve ever loved…but what I feel seems to be more then simple love…it seems more like what people write about in poems, the perfect love that lasts forever.’ Videl thinks as she remembers how, through their freshman year in high school, she constantly tried to find out his secrets.

‘Yes…when we are together I feel like there isn’t anything I can’t do…nothing I can’t handle.’ Gohan and Videl both think.

::We can certainly fly above the people here…I wonder what they would think if we suddenly lifted into the air:: Videl tells Gohan through their bond, neither can stop a smile from coming to their faces at the thought of what their fellow students would do.

‘The joy that I feel when we’re together can bring tears to my eyes at times.’ Videl thinks as she sighs in contentment.

::Oh man…I certainly paid the ultimate sacrifice that day…:: Thinks Gohan not really meaning for Videl to hear the thought.

::Yeah, and don’t you ever do that again. I don’t know what I would do if you were to leave me.:: Videl replies, her smile dimming slightly on her face.

::I’ve seen some of the worst downs that life can through at someone…and because of our bond you’ve seen and experienced them as well.:: Gohan thinks, allowing Videl to hear it.

::Yeah…we’ve both experienced things that someone our age shouldn’t have to. Hopefully we’ll see nothing like Frieza or Cell ever again.:: Videl thinks replies.

‘And I just want to live the rest of my life peacefully with Videl by my side.’ Gohan thinks to himself.

‘I don’t know when or if the Earth will need saving again. And I, unlike others who have said it, know that it is truly best to live every day like it’s your last for tomorrow may not come.’ Gohan thinks as he ponders what he plans to do later.

::Sacrifices…I’ve made, and seen many made…there are only a few I have to make…:: He thinks, accidentally allowing the thought to be heard by Videl. She’s intrigued by the thought but does not say anything about it.

As the song ends they slowly pull apart and walk back over to their table to get something to drink, Gohan’s last thought nagging at something in Videl’s mind.

"You two looked so cute together." Erasa says when Gohan and Videl get back to the table.

"Yea, you looked pretty close out there. I bet you two won’t be going straight home after you leave here." Sharpner says with a smirk.

"What do you mean Sharpner?" Gohan asks, some of his inherited naiveté showing through, as Videl laughs a little.

"I mean, I think you’re going to be the first guy to get Videl in the sack." Sharpner whispers to Gohan.

"Oh…but who says I haven’t had Videl "in the sack" before?" He whispers coolly, allowing his Saiya-jin side to take over for a few seconds. This totally surprises Sharpner since he expected Gohan turn bright red or look clueless as to what he was talking about

Saving Gohan from having to say anything else, Erasa tells Sharpner that she is getting tired and that she is ready to leave. Seeing a mischievous gleam in his date’s eyes he agrees and they leave. Gohan and Videl also decide that they should be going and also leave. With a final good-bye to their friends Gohan and Videl walk down the street to find a deserted place to take off from.

As they are flying towards the Son home through the cool spring air Gohan is busy thinking about what has been planning to do few a couple of days now. Changing direction he lands by a small lake with Videl, simply following him and not paying attention to where they are flying, right behind him.

"Why are we here and not back at your home?" Videl asks as she realizes that they are not at his home.

"Well….I…umm…thought it would be nice just to enjoy such a nice night." He says unconvincingly.

"Yeah, you’re right. The stars are beautiful." Videl says, humoring him as she looks up at the star filled sky.

"But not as beautiful as you are." Gohan says softly he moves so he is standing in front of Videl.

"Gohan, what…" But he silences her as he drops down on one knee while pulling a small velvet covered box from his pocket. Opening the small box he reveals a platinum ring that has a sapphire on either side of a fairly large diamond.

"Videl, ever since I first saw you I knew that there was something special about you. Your presence always seems to make my life brighter and complete. You are the one I want to spend the rest of my life with. Will you do me the honor of taking my hand in marriage and become Mrs. Son Videl?" Gohan asks in a hushed voice, just loud enough for her to easily hear him.

"Yes." Videl says with huge smile on her face as a tear rolls down her cheek.

As that one simple little word fills Gohan’s ears he smiles and slips the ring onto her finger. Standing up, he takes Videl into his arms as he shares a passionate kiss with his fiancé.

"Is this what you were thinking about earlier?" Videl asks when they pull apart a few minutes later.

"What do you mean?" Gohan asks, confused as to what she is talking about.

"Earlier you were thinking about the sacrifices you’ve made and ones you still have to make." Videl says as she leans against Gohan, enjoying the feeling of his strong arms wrapped around her.

"Oh…that. Yeah, this is part of it. I’ve…no, we’ve, just sacrificed our being single. Although I guess that really happened a few weeks ago." Gohan says with a smile as he remembers when they completed their bond, the thoughts do not go unnoticed by Videl.

"And just what exactly are you thinking about Son Gohan?" She says with a smirk.

"I’m sorry, I just couldn’t help myself." Gohan says with mock sincerity.

"Don’t worry, I approve." Videl says as she kisses him again while unbuttoning Gohan’s jacket. As Gohan is shrugging off the jacket she could swear she hears a thought about Sharpner being right about something come from Gohan.

A few hours later they walk into Gohan’s home and find everyone asleep. Tired from the busy day and late hour they go to bed as well.

"Gohan, what were the other sacrifices you were thinking about earlier?" Videl asks as she lays beside Gohan, his arm wrapped protectively around her waist.

"Well…the only other one I was thinking of is that when we have a kid then we will have to sacrifice a lot of out free time." Gohan says lazily while Videl rolls over so she is facing him.

"Oh…but I think that will be a sacrifice worth making." Videl says, smiling at him.

"I love you, and I can’t wait until we have our first child." Gohan says as he gently runs his hand through Videl’s hair.

"I love you too." Videl says as she drifts off sleep.

Gohan lies there for several minutes just watching Videl sleep before he two falls asleep. As they lay asleep in each other’s arms they both dream about the new life ahead of them.

OK, so how was this version? This was a major rewrite. I think that this version is better then the original, but that is up to you, the reader.

Oh…and this version is just barely more then twice as long as the original (if you go by word count).
