Cast List

Alex Gomez

Character: Doctor Tiffany Heaven- Dr. Tiffany is the young wife of a marriage counselor. She finds herself insecure with her own relationship and uncovers a hidden lust for violence. Tiffany enjoys listening to the emotional pains of others to make her feel better about herself and her marriage.

I chose Alex to tackle this role for a number of different reasons. When Ms. Gomez did a cold reading of the part during auditions, I could see that she was simply the right person for the role, and that she personally connected with Tiffany. This part is difficult to play, due to the multitude of lines and the emotional diverseness of the character. I know that Alex is responsible, professional, and a serious actor, and that she will due the play justice. I would like to see her develop different layers for the character, and vary her emotions until she is almost over the top.

James McGregor

Character: Mark Bloomer- Mark is a young newlywed. He is utterly in love with his wife, yet sees his marriage failing. A vulnerable character, Mark eventually finds that his life works better independently, even if he might not want it to.

James is developing into an amazingly strong actor. Though he can play a variety of different roles, his persona reminds me of an innocent, vulnerable person; just like Mark. He does a brilliant job of gaining the audiences pity when his character is excluded from the exuberant group in the end of the play. I would like James to stop being so timid; to not be afraid to make his character attempt to show affection to his wife. With the second largest role in the play, I know that James can memorize his part in the short time allotted.

Cast List Continued

Sali Aldabbagh

Character: Jaydeen Bloomer- Jaydeen is a young, emotional newlywed. She is very sensitive and her entire world is destroyed when she marries Mark. Despite the fact that she does not find Mark an attractive man, she is really in love with Dr. Roger.

Sali has an extraordinary gift to make people laugh. Whoever plays this role needs to be able to make the character serious in a comical way, which is not easy to do. I would like to see Sali take this role seriously and use her body and gestures to bring her characterization over the top. Sali has enormous potential and I know that she is ready for this role.

Kyle Pickering

Character: Doctor Roger Creosote- Dr. Roger is a suave, Òanything goesÓ type of guy. He realizes he has faults, and accepts them until his desperate lust for true love drives him crazy. This character is womanizer, ending up with the affections of both Jaydeen and Tiffany.

Kyle is very laid back, which works for the character. He is not afraid to go all out in his characterizations, which works with the slightly overdramatic character. Kyle is hilarious and also has a gift for making people laugh. For this play, I would like to see Kyle step away from his monotonic tone and vary his vocal patterns.

The World of Pillow Talk

Pillow Talk takes place in a marital counseling office. Without further detail or description in the script, this play could take place anytime since the invention of marriage counselors. I have decided to set this play in the present based on the language used in the script. Though unimportant, I have also decided to set this play in New York because I would like it to take place in a big city. The office is part of a huge business building, bustling with hubbub so that nobody can hear the loud antics occurring in the office.

If I were shooting this as a film, I would want the audience to see a normal, somewhat sterile therapists office. The walls would be a light, subtle color; like cream, or baby blue. There would be a brightly colored chez lounge in the middle of the room, and maybe a couple of big, comfortable chairs along the sidewalls. Inspirational posters would hang, randomly all over the walls, bearing phrases like ÒdonÕt hate your spouseÓ or, Òconfront Noogies!Ó A large, rectangular window would look out on a spectacular view of New York City.

The Chase

The chase in this play changes constantly. Both Tiffany and Jaydeen begin by chasing Roger, while Mark is chasing Jaydeen. Though Mark never stops chasing Jaydeen, Tiffany turns on Roger and commences to chase Mark. Roger breaks free of Jaydeen and chases Mark, devastating both women who go back to chasing Roger. In the end, Jaydeen and Tiffany chase Roger, who chases after the two women, leaving Mark on his own. Mark then concludes by chasing all three of the other characters; for revenge, not love. All of the characters simply want love and attention. In addition to that, Mark wants to save his marriage and get back at Jaydeen for leaving him and Roger for stealing Jaydeen from him. None of the characters really, truly love Mark though he loves Jaydeen. Roger ends up loving both Jaydeen and Tiffany, and in turn they love him back. They all learn that you can learn to love someone if you really want to. This scene (not part of a larger work) exists to give hope to those who have lost a partner. It explains that there will always be another person to love you if you are all alone at the moment. John Pielmeier wrote this piece when he had just broken up with his long-term girlfriend to reassure himself that another person would come along for him soon.

Props

Pillows- the only props used in this play are pillows. I will have around twenty pillows of varying sizes and shapes that will be used by Alex Gomez and James McGregor.

Costumes

Tiffany- my play takes place in present day and Tiffany is a marriage counselor. Tiffany has to move around including falling on the floor, so I couldnÕt have her wear a nice business skirt. Instead, I opted for nice, womenÕs slacks in a dark color and a nice button down shirt in a brighter color. Since she is a sort of doctor, I would like her to wear a white, unbuttoned doctorÕs coat. I would also like her to wear her glasses and have her hair pulled up in a messy ponytail. Her shoes should be black character heels.

Mark- Mark is a regular, everyday guy. He is young, so I want him to wear something that isnÕt too old. I would like him to wear loose jeans with a nice shirt to make him look mature. I also want the shirt to be an interesting color; possibly salmon colored, and maybe with a mild pattern on it. Because he is a regular, average man, he should wear dull colored sneakers.

Jaydeen- Jaydeen is also young and needs to be able to move around quite a bit. Since she cannot be in a skirt, I would like her to wear cropped pants that are cute, but not too youthful: possibly khaki. I would like her shirt to be a nice, button down shirt. The shirt could be in any multitude of colors, though preferably red to reveal her fiery nature. Her hair should be down to make her look different from Tiffany. She should also be wearing black character heels.

Roger-I would like Roger to match with Tiffany. He should be adorned with nice, dark business slacks and nice, black shoes. His shirt should be button down and he should be wearing a doctor coat with a pen in the pocket. I want him to match with Tiffany because they are business partners as well as lovers, and this might help the audience determine whoÕs with who if they get confused.
