"Are you absolutely sure you want to do this?"

"Yes. I wanted to do it before and I really want to do it now."

"And you're sure this isn't some kind of reaction to everything that's
happened?"

He frowned at her and closed the box. "Of course it isn't. Why would you say
that?"

"Because I would understand if it was just a panic reflex. I've had those
before. Remember? I've run from apocalypses."

"This isn't a panic reflex. I want this. That's why I asked you before and
it's why I'm asking you again now. The world didn't end. We're alive, I love
you and I want to be with you. Can't you understand that?"

She nodded. "I guess so. It's just all very strange and new to me. No one
loves you when you're a demon, and certainly no one would want to plan a
future with you, so it's just kind of hard to imagine."

He frowned again. "Are you sure you want me to do this?"

She sighed. "I'm not sure of anything anymore. All I know is when you asked
me the other day, I've never felt so happy in all my 1100 years. It was new
for me. I felt… truly human. Like I'd passed some test and you were my
reward. So yes, I guess I do want you to do this, but not if it's just
because of Joyce and Buffy and the apocalypse and everything. I only want you
to do it if it's because you really want to be with me forever."

He smiled and reopened the box. Readjusting himself in front of the couch, he
knelt in front of her. "Anya, I love you. I want to be with you forever. The
tragedies that have happened to us this year are just a reminder that I want
to make things with us as solid as possible. Nothing would make me happier
than if you would do me the honor of becoming my wife. Will you marry me?"

She smiled, finally convinced that he was doing this for all the right
reasons. "Yes, Xander. I will marry you." He slipped the ring on her finger
and she threw herself into his waiting arms for a hug and a kiss.

He looked at her. "Happy now?"

She glanced down at the shining ring on her left hand. "Absolutely."
