Gunn wasn't sure how he earned this choice trip. It's not like he knew any of
these people. It's not like they knew him. And he'd heard some scary rumors
about what happened to brothers in the 'Dale. But Angel said go and Gunn
went. Just like a damned lap dog.

The Magik Box was a small shop on a street off the main drag. It even had
those quaint bells that rang when you entered. The interior had a back room
and possibly a back entrance. There was a split level second floor, no
windows up there and pretty defensible. Gunn would have been impressed if
there hadn't been an overly perky girl behind the counter.

"Hello there customer! Can I help you spend your money?" Her eyes were just a
little too bright. Her smile was wider than natural as if she actually liked
this job. It creeped him.

"Yeah, I'm not here to spend money." He told her.

The smile vanished. Brown eyes darkened. "Then why are you here? This is a
shop. People spend money here. If you're not a customer than you're a
vagrant. Be gone, vagrant. I need the space for people who want to give me
money."

Gunn growled, "Look I'm here to pick up something. Angel sent me."

"Oh." Her eyes rolled, "Why didn't you say so in the first place? Buffy left
a package for someone with a name that was a weapon. And she threw in a bag
of stakes for Angel. I don't know why she'd do that for free. They're a good
novelty item."

Gunn sighed, "Yeah well it's not like I get to kill vampires anymore. Angel's
always saving them or letting them go. I'd just like once, just once, to be
able to go in and kill something." He slapped his hands down on the counter.

The girl nodded, like she understood. "I'd give anything to kill something!
Here it's always, research. And then not killing. A lot of not killing and
making fun of the way I talk."

Gunn raised an eyebrow, a kindred spirit. "Times were when you saw a vamp,
you dusted it. No questions. Vamps evil. Dust. Move on to next one. Now it's
all, 'This one can be saved. And that one's good...Oh it used to be my best
friend." Gun wiggled his fingers in the air. "It's messed."

The girl was nodding vigorously, "Yes, I have experienced that. Spike is a
vampire and he can't kill anyone because he's impotent but he causes trouble.
I like him but Buffy threatens every day. No action. They are all talk around
here. In my day, I killed anyone who got in my way. Well, anyone who cheated
on their girlfriend."

Gunn blinked. He had been nodding along until the last part. "Say that again?"

The girl was smiling longingly, "Oh yes, I would kill them so elaborately.
Once this woman's husband cheated on her with a sheep so I made his penis
sprout wool. Eventually he had to be sheared and those scissors weren't as
sharp as they are today. The knife slipped...Well he wouldn't be cheating on
her again!" She paused. "Because he had no penis. And he bled to death."

Gunn grabbed the bag Buffy had left for him. "Uh huh?"

She smiled. "I'm Anya. Have you ever cheated on your girlfriend?" Her eyes
narrowed shrewdly.

"Nuh nuh no." Gunn took another few steps away from Anya. "I'm gonna get
going. Back to Angel."

A bright smile crossed her face. "Good luck. Hope you get to kill them
vampires!" She made an encouraging gesture with an imaginary spike.

Gunn winced. "Yeah ah, thanks. And I ah, hope you get...the help you need."

"Thank you."

He backed out of the store. As the bells jingled he heard her mutter, "Why is
every one always saying that? I don't need any help. I can run this shop
single handed..."

End.
