SAM'S WORLD

Hi my name is Sam Cardillo I was born in Stanthorpe, Queensland, Australia. My father Leonardo Cardillo in the town of Fumafredo but was registered in Mascali Sicily in 1933. He was the son of Salvatore Cardillo and Maria Cardillo (nee Pennisi). My mother Anna Cardillo (nee Caruso)in Australia in the town of Ingham, north Queensland, Australia in 1937. She is the daughter of Giovanni Caruso and of Leonarda Caruso (nee Nicilosi). As a result of this I can speak Sicilian. My grandparents on my mother's side came out to Australia in the mid 1920's with his Parents Ross Caruso and Leonarda Caruso and 4 brothers and 2 sisters. I am 33 years old I came to Martin College to improve my education so as I can gain employment other than labouring. I originally came from a place called Stanthorpe This is a little town of around 10 000 people. I grew up in this town and worked there for 8 years. The good thing about the town was that everyone knew everyone, you could go in and have a chat with shop owners and have a drink in the pub and know the person sitting next to you. Before working as a cleaner I was a self-employed person who owned a farm with my mother. My father had died when I was 14 and I was more or less responsible for the everyday running of the farm as my mother has a handicap, she is deaf. On this farm I grew all types of vegetables, this is what's known as a small crop. We also grew grapes, apples, pears and stone fruit these are fruits like plums, peaches, cherries, nectarines and other fruits with a stone in the middle. A couple of years ago I met my wife Annette. We met at a function called "Opera at Sunset" at Ballandean Estate winery. My friends have a lot to do with the winery and well, I more less said that I was coming about 2 weeks before the opera was on even though they had sold out of tickets along time before that ( I know I'm annoying like that, just ask them) Well that's when I met Annette and after a bit of wooing on her behalf (all lies really, it just sounds good) she and I clicked and well we got married on the 23/09/2000 so we are now coming up to our first anniversary.

For our honeymoon we went to Victoria we drove along Great Ocean Road this road travels along the coast of Victoria and has come spectacular sights to see well worth the trip. We visited Great Western winery. We also stayed in Ballarat and we went Sovereign Hill. Ballarat was a nice town as well. I could not believe that one could travel from Melbourne to just about any destination in Victoria in half a day.

I would say that in my life I have learnt that you can never have enough friends, every decision has a consequence and that everything happens for a reason even though it may not seem like it at the time.
